  1. .... and it's very easy for stones to get into the belt which would lead to a catastrophic failure of mega proportions with dire results. I'll stick to my antiquated chain, thank you! Support Squirt, say no to belts!
  2. .... but my tyre was ripped halfway across for a 10cm length .... aint enough money to fix that one. My tube was inside a plsastic bag. It used to be in quite a thick sock and I reckon that's the only way to kkep a tube or tape it to the seatpost. But even the tube would not have lasted long.....
  3. Last week Thursday I was out near the Bapsfontein/Bronkhorstsopruit road whren I got a puncture. Well, I had a 10 cm rip in my rear tye after riding over a piece of 6mm round bar sticking out the ground. It went in near the rim and came out near the centre of the tyre, but ripped it all the way. It was a tubeless tyre, and I had a spare tube with me, but this, as I was soon to learn, had a hole in the side where it hap been rubbing against the saddle bag. Then I tried stuffing miellie stems into to the tyre, but every time I tried to pedal the rim just spun inside the tyre, so that idea was quickly forgotten. In the end I rode 28km back to Kemptune Park on the rim at an average speed of just over 12km/h. Rim, tyre, tubeless kit all scrap now ..... expensive ride!
  4. I looked at the site but there's nuttin there after July. My point: I will be in PE on 4 October and need to start thinking about booking tickets. Should I book a late flight back on Sunday in the hope that there's an interesting race?
  5. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a comprehensive list of events. Some are listed on the CSA site, some on Entry Time and some on Cycle Lab..... Surely there is a better way of doing all this so we can try plan our year. OI work about 40 weekends of the year so it would help me a great deal.
  6. Got caught in moer of a thunderstorm about 3:30 out the back of Pomoma .... eish I'm cold!
  7. I always ride with an ICE ID bracelet on my ankle and I have my phone .... else it gets stolen from the car. Also, some number boards are used at many events. Spectrum Sport is one that springs to mind, but maybe emergency numbers could be on the entry form then we can put it wherever we want ... even have it tatooed across my buttocks if I wanted to.
  8. Here's mine last Wednesday
  9. Zwartkops (PTA) could be available but someone needs to push it. Midvaal in Meyerton also has potential .......... and besides Kyalami there's nothing else!
  10. Like I said earlier ...... Agent Orenge had a reasonable argument, but I don't think he deserved to be banned. Its not as though he was inciting violence or threatened to run some one down. I know what its like having to organise a funeral ...... so I do have some sympathy, but that wasn't mentioned until after everyone started attacking Agent Orenge. We will all have to deal with losing a family member at some stage. Its not easy, but we get over it and the sun rises the next day, or maybe the next.
  11. No medical aid .... this leads to an area where CSA could do something to prevent this type of scenario. Would it not be possible for some sort of accident insurance to be added to our license premiums. I'm sure R20 or R50 would be affordable to all of us. The bargaining power of CSA must be huge so a good deal could be negotiated with a medical aid/ins company. Perhaps make it that riders are covered whenever they are riding in club colours, not just races. Any ideas ................idrive2008-05-22 08:44:58
  12. Okay, so what he said offended some of you ......... I thought his comment was a reasonable argument and had some logic to it. Others incite violence on this site by wanting to beat up motorists or pay motorists a visit in the middle of the night and get away with that!!
  13. Main cause of QR coming loose is over tightening and not checking that mating surfaces are free of grit. Chip holders will crush if overtightened and this will allow the wheel to come loose. Also, plastic becomes brittle over time so check it when you do your pre-ride inspection ..... you do that, don't you?
  14. Build an illegal structure in a public area, then there's no reason why Sipho can't build a shack ...... Just because your jump might be used responsibly, doesn't mean it has a right to be there. Just another example of a**hole quad and dipsh1t mx riders f.....g everything up for everyone ...... even themselves.idrive2008-05-16 00:59:35
  15. Any mtb races near JHB on 17/18 or 31st May?
  16. Are there any mtb races in PE area on Sunday 4th May?
  17. if action is taken surely it should be against the two (pusher & pushed or pulled & pulley?) After all, it takes two to tango
  18. cycling anywhere near London road is insanely stupid. I don't even ride out the back of Linbro Park to Chloorkop road anymore. Its even silly to drive down London Road!! Why cycle there if you were in Blue Hills area?
  19. Slowpoke - I do not condone attempted murder. If you have the ability to read and the intelligence to understand what I wrote you will see that I initially suggested one should get both sides of the story before embarking on a vigilante mission. Did you know the alleged agressor can now lay a charge of harassment against those who've phoned him. I'm not saying the story isn't true, but ..... there's always two sides to a story. And yes, I have been a victim of a road accident where the guilty party got off scot free. I spent 3 weeks in ICU with a brain injury and it took 4 months to learn to ride again! Unlike you ......... I sincerely hope it never happens to you. EWEP, with your bad attitude I hope I'm never riding on road anywhere near you ...... ever! idrive2008-03-20 04:56:42
  20. All I'm suggesting is that it would be more constructive if we got both sides of the story. As for 'slowpoke' I've no idea who you are, but I'm sooo happy I don't have to wake up with you every morning! If this is what The Hub is all about, then its not the place for me.
  21. ......... so you hear one side of a story and want to embark on some sort of vigilante mission ......... very doff & not to mention childish!!
  22. Most people can't tell a good pic from a bad one so unless you are being commissioned to do a shoot or have extremely high standards, I reckon the lens is a minor issue. I shot the Epic with a crappy Tamron 55-200 as it was the only one that fitted in my handlebar bag ......... yes, the images were published (locally and internationally) even though I wasn't happy with the result. I have got the 17-70 Sigma and 70-200 Canon but I'm seriously thinking of getting the Sigma 18-200
  23. that last picture with Wayne is stunning!! A once in a lifetime shot. No matter how hard you try, you'll never get another pic of a photographer taking a pic the moment his flash goes off. Well done ............ and I'm very jealous. ....... did I say how lucky you are?
  24. ........ ask any tuck driver
  25. ......... didn't Brad rub Janet's jumping muscle?
