  1. Top up or bleed? Bleed doing 1 and top up doing 2 but dont open the bleed nipple (it takes a bit longer and you need to keep squeezing the lever and you will see bubbles coming out of your system).
  2. Wax on........Wax off!
  3. I tried rollers and they were so noisy that it drove me mad. Now have a spinning bike which I have set up exactly like my mtb and it works great. The flywheel gives you a much better feeling of "getting going". However, as mentioned earlier, no matter what you use the biggest challenge is the mental game of getting on and staying on. Try a series of dvd's that gets you hooked on wanting to see the next episode. I'm selling a spinning bike for a friend in the for sale section if anyone is looking.
  4. I know he used to use the equivalent of Suunto Epoc and Training Effect. Have a t6 for sale if you are keen on this system. Dirtbreath2010-05-04 14:15:19
  5. Mark, I'm in a similar weight category and riding group to you. I ride a Yeti asr and can honestly say that even though I am looking elsewhere at another bike which I think might be better I have not managed to ride this bike anywhere near its peak potential. If I find I have my bike 100% setup for my riding style and the bike runs out of balls before I do then I will upgrade and look for something cushier.
  6. If I cut the hologram off my WC tickets will I still get into the game? Another tip for your kit. If you staple the hologram onto your forehead it makes the transmission of the hologramorifocaloric energy much more effective. Try it.
  7. He is there this weekend. Your age does not matter.
  8. Nice wheels. However, I still dont get why you would want to buy a rim strip conversion to ride on a tubeless setup. Why not get a tubeless specific rim? You can run it without sealant to save weight if thats what you're after and want it specifically for racing. As for breaking the law.........its one thing doing it and another bragging you've done it. I mean, just the other day I ................................
  9. Pretend you are bending over a barrel and assume this position when freewheeling to increase your speed.
  10. Sorry, why is it to be expected that you are all over the road?
  11. I think we have more than enough roads for our traffic load. Driver education would reduce so much traffic. How often do you notice that traffic is held up because of someone going 60 in the fast lane or some idiot trying to jump a q or someone trying to squeeze through a red robot and blocks the intersection. You can have 20 lanes and it will never work if people dont do the basics right.
  12. It's a 1988, FJ60, 4l petrol GX Stationwagon. A diesel would be nice. Will never sell if I don't have to. Very nice car. Went up Africa in a mates one. He had OME suspension which totally transformed the thing. 6 guys with a trailer and it didnt skip a beat.
  13. Brilliant. That photo of William Nicol is the 4ways bike park so it is still being ridden. Oooooh, I am one bridge too far.
  14. Thanks for that.
  15. Was in CT beginning Feb and was standing at this robot before 7am. 2 guys came riding through from the Clifton side and didnt even look left up the hill as they jumped the red robot. The one guy was on a hand cycle and they were merrily chatting to each other whilst they jumped this robot. Its not nice to hear about people getting knocked over but judging how a large number of cyclists behave on the road its not surprising. But I do suppose its the same with other road users and society in general.
  16. I'm not saying that the Fortuner is without any fault. The shocks and the tyres in the pre-face lift seems to be that. It is also a vehicle based on a bakkie chassis. Loading in a bakkie is totally different. I had a single cab Hi-Lux 4x4 which was very difficult to handle on dirt roads when unladen. Throw 2 sacks of cement in the back and it made the world of difference. I wonder what the difference in weight between a Fortuner and Patrol is?
  17. Been unpgrading my suspension on my Prado and had a long chat with this suspension guru about the Fortuner. The new facelifted version doesnt seem to have the same problem as the old one. The tyres and shocks that were installed werent up to the job. It is a higher spec car that is looking to fit into a certain market segment so some areas had some cost cutting done to squeeze it in. It is also a difficult car to produce in so far as satisfying the average user. Jan Beerboep wants a car that can carry all his cases of beer at 160kays down the N3 and climb that mountain and rip up the local countryside so he can take his poppie for a romantic dop. Before the advent of the modern SUV most people used to take Landies if they were going anywhere where offroading was required. To get there you had to drive 500kays on a highway. Guys were doing 120 plus in these things and they often came short. If you've been in a Defender at 120 plus and you are prone to seasickness you are in trouble. I had a 90 2.8i that had the 2.8 BMW engine. I could take on a GTi at pull off and cruise at 160 easily. Absolute madness. It was a difficult car to drive offroad. Any slight movement in throttle and this car would wheelspin when traction was low. To my original point. You cannot drive the Fortuner and any other 4x4 likes it a 328!
  18. Not the same.
  19. Thug, how much do you reckon for a good LED, driver, lens and plugs? Wonder if its really worth it?
  20. I can get the block machined, would just need the guts. If I can get a driver, LED, switch and power jack I am sorted. I would even be happy only having 600 lumens. These 1000 lumen lights are just serious overkill.
  21. Keep the pedals and get some nice shoes. They look fine just a bit scratched which new ones will be in no time. Dont ride with these pedals in tekkies. Your foot will slip off in no time and you will see your arse. Get mtb shoes and cleats and ask someone to help you attach the cleats. Go to a field with soft grass and spend a half hour or so getting the hang of clipping and unclipping so by the time you hit a trail or group ride you are sorted. Stories about unclipping in time are nonsense. It might happen but very rarely. Just get cofortable and set them up properly and you will never have a problem.
  22. Thys, that Cube is amazing. Did you mak the case yourself? Where can I source that thing?
