  1. You'd be surprised at how big some holes are that you need to patch. Carry a couple smalls and big. Dont take up much space. I also have one of those little Park Tools patch kits. They are self adhesive and work really well. Had the opportunity of using it for the first time on someone elses bike last weekend. Much better than using that glue. The boot sticks really well so I'm sure it would patch a torn tyre nicely. That's normally your biggest problem when you have a tubeless setup.
  2. Top BMXers ride with road pedals and road shoes.
  3. Get some plugs. Best bet is at a car spares place. Your sealant should handle most of the stuff. This is for bigger cuts. One of those Park Tools boots is helpful as well.
  4. Havent read through the endless pages but my take is that I dont mind paying if it's a quality race and the organisers have gone to a lot of effort to organise a memorable ride. As a mtber I want some decent single track with some scenery and something to get the blood flowing. I cannot justify paying a few hundred bucks to ride a district dirt road or q and push the 100m of single track they have squeezed in. I will and do drive very far for races that I believe give me what I am looking for. As for the cost, I happened to be told the other day what a round of golf costs. Nearly spat my false teeth through the neck of my Heineken bottle. Glad I'm not into little white balls, holes and clubs.
  5. I took up Pilates which was excellent. Very localised and specific. You can google up some other exercises. Youtube even has some videos. The key is to exhale and contract your abdominal muscles before doing the movement. You can even do it whilst riding. Contract your abdominal region (flex your abs) and try and feel lighter on your bars. I dont know if it makes sense but try it on your bike and you'll see what I mean.
  6. Have put Ergons on since the neuropathy from the chemo made riding intollerable. They help but are not the magic potion. You are better off strengthening your core so you dont slouch on your bars and dont grip the bars tightly. If you adopt a "lazy" riding position you will get numb hands no matter what.
  7. Are you sure its "DOG" sh*t?
  8. Hectic. Sorry to hear. Where is Shongweni by the way? Also, please go to the effort of reporting it to the police.
  9. Can only personally compare Jucy 5's vs XT 08. The XTs are far superior. Changing pads on the 5s was a nightmare as was setup. Not sure if Avid have remedied the problem. I would consider Hopes on my next bike.
  10. Beautiful! Dibles, you wouldnt beileve that I was humming that song as I openend this thread. Been in my head since last night when they had that 4 year old singing it on America's Talent or something like that. Very cute.
  11. Glad it turned into a good experience for you.
  12. My rubbish gets removed every week, I recycle glass and paper. I choose not to shop at 3rd world bike shops. No reference to any particular shop but there are bike shops and suppliers whose standards are world class. If you accept sub-standard service that's your problem.
  13. Rubbish. Dont make your suppliers poor back up service the purchasers problem. You are the middle man who is making a mark up. Do your bit and back up the stock you sell through your outlet. Too many retailers are too lazy and spineless to take any gripes to their suppliers. What is a shop? Just a convenient place to buy high priced goods?
  14. Bumped into some of the guys from HQ at their Bryanston shop just before the 94.7 expo. They were raving about their shorts. Passionate guys who I am sure will sort you out.
  15. How much lighter are they with the reflective stuff gone?
  16. Agreed. I sold all my used components some time back for next to nothing. At the time I though I would rather have it go to someone who would use it rather than just gathering dust. Have lately been thinking about building up a run-around bike and if I had those parts I would probably have gone for it.
  17. 27k for for my wife's Yeti. Although used the seller claimed to have ridden it twice which wqas evident as the bike looked as new. That was about a 10k saving on a bike that had done less than 100 kays. My household insurance covers my bikes for any damage so wasnt too stressed about warranty claims. The only mtb that I have bought new was my first one in 1990 and that's because anything decent was as scarce as hen's teeth. That bike is still going by the way.
  18. 45 kays?!?!?! Looking forward to it! 7:00/7:30 good for you? Not sure where we are staying but I'm sure its not far to ride to a common place.
  19. My search has found www.worldmtb.co.za Nice site!
  20. Thanks guys. Will PM you jeeptrack. If it was to be 2 rides what do you guys reckon would be the best use of this time?
