  1. I hope you get some clarity on the issue. On a side note, anyone seen the interview with Brendan Venter a couple of weeks back. Absolute classic.
  2. I wonder where on the waiting list he was to get an entry?
  3. Around $1700.00 for a Rohloff which weighs more, has poorer gear ratios and has less bling factor. I think these will go fast and the price will come down if they prove themselves and start being manufactured in numbers. Wonder how much hydraulic brakes cost when they first came out?
  4. I use an Oregon 300 which is the somewhat like the Dakota. Has a great bicycle mount. This is more a pukka gps than a bicycle computer with a gps built in and mapping. I use it on my bike, car, hiking and just about anywhere. I have a Suunto hrm hence I didnt need another hrm although you can use the garmin hr belt. Its a bit bigger but the screen is great. Much better as an all round unit but if you're using it specifically on the bike go for the edge. Oh, another reason why I wanted the Oregon is that it uses AA batteries. Doing multidays and overnight trails, it makes it handy to be able to keep spare batteries which you can just change over.
  5. Did an organised outride down to the trails above Boven, about 50 kays with great single track loops once you're there. Another shorter lop in the estate which was brilliant. Food great, staff super friendly. Gets my thumbs up.
  6. Morewood no longer making Shova or Mbuzi?
  7. Just joined up a green renewable energy company. We are urgently looking for a draughtsman. He/she must be able to rok in autocad and hopefully solid edge. Needs a strong understanding of mechanical structures. Personality and an ability to fit in with the culture is key, by that I mean a neurotic caged lion hunter might not be suitable for the job as might be a person who is in to V8 drag racing. If there are any junior mech engineers out there interested in getting involved with a company wanting to change the world give me shout.
  8. Your bike is a beautiful steed. Just looking at it will make you want to saddle up.
  9. Have a look at yetifan. Quite a few discussions on frame failures esp rear triangles. Dont think the number of failures is significant. I suppoese it depends on if you are the guy with the cracked carbon or not.
  10. Taken from this week's Rosebank Kilarney Gazette.
  11. Wheels built around some Chris King pewter hubs.
  12. Looks like the Montrail product, marketing and market. Kapish?
  13. Inov-8 smells a bit Montrailish to me.
  14. Maybe I need to look at a pair. Nerves in my feet are destroyed from all the chemo. My feet at the best of times feel like after a days marching in army boots or skiing in boots a size too small. The only shoes I can walk a few hundred metres in without an incredible ache are my Asics. If these work for me, they'll work on anyone. Oh, and foot strike is interesting when you dont feel your feet. Do they perhaps make a safety version for site?
  15. Its not a matter of strength but co-ordination. Front braking is more effective and much more of a "feel" which is why I keep it on the right. But then its always been like that. I think after years of riding it becomes a handedness thing so you do what you are used to.
  16. Was offered a spin on a R80k+ mtb, full carbon with a carbon saddle and all the bells and whistles to get a feel how the extra 50k and carbon compared to my alloy version. I run Times and this bike had egg-beaters. No problem, just a light spin and wont clip in. Lo and behold my cleats wedged into the pedals and as I rolled back to the nervous owner I just stopped and fell over. Managed to fall on my body to save all the plastic. So, so ungraceful and embarrasing. Made a hasty run for my car and the door.
  17. Whatever tyre you get, dont get anything bigger than a 2.1 esp for the back. If it gets muddy you are going to suck up so much mud and end up pushing your bike.
  18. Have a RP2 for you Johan.
  19. electric fencing on your garden wall
  20. You really cannot describe how much the rain you get up there changes the race. If its dry, its really dry and you'll want your racing ralphs. If its wet, its seriously muddy.
  21. Jislaaik, they look really light!
  22. I reckon the route is more to blame for bottle necks than the make up of the batches. Long lead outs never bottle up. Take us up over the airfield and you stand around talking *** for ages while some okes think they are "special" and push their way through.
  23. Still dont get having the time trial as a prologue on Day 1? Much prefered having it after 3 days of hard riding.
  24. "Side note: Once or twice a month I add a % of 2 stroke oil or an additive like redex or Liqui Moly equivalent to a full tank, both the diesel or petrol cars. It goes a long way towards engine lubrication and keeping the injectors clean and/or from being damaged." Spoke to a regular hubber who happens to work in the petrochemicals industry. I heard about this on 4wd forum. This is apparently very bad for your engine. It actually clogs up your injectors. Put as little stuff in your fuel as possible. His advice was to use the low sulphur fuel and religiously stick to oil change. What I never realised is that the engine oil plays a major role in engine cooling. When it turns to sludge the cooling efficiency of your engine deteriorates. Read what you want into it. Oh by the way, just checked my receipt from Shell in Parkhurst. R8.46 per litre! Need to be alert when I fill up. (Our country needs lerts)
  25. Mordor = Lagos?
