  1. Have a look at yetifan. Quite a few discussions on frame failures esp rear triangles. Dont think the number of failures is significant. I suppoese it depends on if you are the guy with the cracked carbon or not.
  2. Taken from this week's Rosebank Kilarney Gazette.
  3. Wheels built around some Chris King pewter hubs.
  4. Looks like the Montrail product, marketing and market. Kapish?
  5. Inov-8 smells a bit Montrailish to me.
  6. Maybe I need to look at a pair. Nerves in my feet are destroyed from all the chemo. My feet at the best of times feel like after a days marching in army boots or skiing in boots a size too small. The only shoes I can walk a few hundred metres in without an incredible ache are my Asics. If these work for me, they'll work on anyone. Oh, and foot strike is interesting when you dont feel your feet. Do they perhaps make a safety version for site?
  7. Its not a matter of strength but co-ordination. Front braking is more effective and much more of a "feel" which is why I keep it on the right. But then its always been like that. I think after years of riding it becomes a handedness thing so you do what you are used to.
  8. Was offered a spin on a R80k+ mtb, full carbon with a carbon saddle and all the bells and whistles to get a feel how the extra 50k and carbon compared to my alloy version. I run Times and this bike had egg-beaters. No problem, just a light spin and wont clip in. Lo and behold my cleats wedged into the pedals and as I rolled back to the nervous owner I just stopped and fell over. Managed to fall on my body to save all the plastic. So, so ungraceful and embarrasing. Made a hasty run for my car and the door.
  9. Whatever tyre you get, dont get anything bigger than a 2.1 esp for the back. If it gets muddy you are going to suck up so much mud and end up pushing your bike.
  10. Have a RP2 for you Johan.
  11. electric fencing on your garden wall
  12. You really cannot describe how much the rain you get up there changes the race. If its dry, its really dry and you'll want your racing ralphs. If its wet, its seriously muddy.
  13. Jislaaik, they look really light!
  14. I reckon the route is more to blame for bottle necks than the make up of the batches. Long lead outs never bottle up. Take us up over the airfield and you stand around talking *** for ages while some okes think they are "special" and push their way through.
  15. Still dont get having the time trial as a prologue on Day 1? Much prefered having it after 3 days of hard riding.
  16. "Side note: Once or twice a month I add a % of 2 stroke oil or an additive like redex or Liqui Moly equivalent to a full tank, both the diesel or petrol cars. It goes a long way towards engine lubrication and keeping the injectors clean and/or from being damaged." Spoke to a regular hubber who happens to work in the petrochemicals industry. I heard about this on 4wd forum. This is apparently very bad for your engine. It actually clogs up your injectors. Put as little stuff in your fuel as possible. His advice was to use the low sulphur fuel and religiously stick to oil change. What I never realised is that the engine oil plays a major role in engine cooling. When it turns to sludge the cooling efficiency of your engine deteriorates. Read what you want into it. Oh by the way, just checked my receipt from Shell in Parkhurst. R8.46 per litre! Need to be alert when I fill up. (Our country needs lerts)
  17. Mordor = Lagos?
  18. I would get a Fox fork from CRC. They have a clearance sale at the moment. Upgrading wheels will not make a big difference to your ride but a fork will.
  19. Ordered my Corolla light, paid a Corolla price for my light, I expect it to perform like a Corolla light, it performs like a Corolla light, I am happy with my Corolla light. No sticky accelerator problems yet.
  20. My LBS is damn expensive. I do most of the work on my bike myself because I enjoy it. However, when I do take the bike in and pay top dollar the bike comes back better than what I could do myself. It costs a bit but worth every penny. I never have buyers remorse. Another shop near me used to get my business. Quite a bit cheaper but the bike always came back with something out or wrong which I either had to fix up myself or had to take back in to get sorted out. Always had buyers remorse and dont take my bike there anymore.
  21. Elmulab
  22. I use Julbos with an optical insert. Pretty happy with them. Never tried Rudy Projects. Next time I might probably go that route though although they are quite a bit more expensive. Someone posted a really nice pair of Adidas' they had made up.
  23. Very sad to hear. Didnt have the privelege of meeting Mark in person. RIP.
  24. 29" is a road wheel standard. 26" is the wheel taken of "The Klunker" that was the inspiration for the first mount bikes. No science. Part history, part chance.
  25. Carry your bike! Get some mud tyres. Pick up less crud.
