  1. I'm no expert, but I do have a reasonable knowledge of bike repairs, but this is something I have never experienced. A few months ago, I replaced the cable discs on my daughter's bike with Avid Elixir hydraulic. Twice, she has been out on a ride and the brakes seize up. The brakes clamp on to the discs and hold the wheels solid. It happens to front and back at more or less the same time. Once we get home, we put the bike in the garage and a few minutes later they are free again. Both times that this has happened, it has been an exceptionally hot day. Could it be that the heat causes the hydraulic fluid to expand and once in the cooler garage it contracts again? I have no idea what fluid is in the brakes. Surely brake fluid shouldn't expand in the heat? Is it possible there is some other crazy fluid in the brakes? Any other ideas on what it can be and what I can do to fix it?
  2. If this is an out of the ordinary Covid based scenario, perhaps this should be discussed with your employer and some compromise reached. I doubt you will find any of these in labour law because working hours etc are usually some form of negotiation between employer and employee. If you are incurring costs because of your new working arrangements, again, best is to discuss with your employer some form of cost recovery.
  3. Also not a Hamilton fan, but somehow, no matter what happens, he always seems to pull it off. Sometimes I think he must be the luckiest guy on the grid, other times I think he has the uncanny ability to make his own luck. Although not a fan, I have a lot of respect for his achievements. He is definitely one of the greats.
  4. Love these bodies. I knew a guy that had a vacuum forming business. He took a photo of the real car from a motoring magazine, made his own clay mould and started making these bodies long before Tamiya did (then again Tamiya probably had to wait for licence agreements etc).
  5. Yes......I'm involved too. Myself and my 12 year old son race 1/10th on road electric. Love it. We've been at it for 4 years new. He has walked away with numerous trophies since starting as an 8 year old and me, nothing The only problem, it is starting to get expensive, real expensive. It's insane what is being charged for parts and stuff.
  6. I merely stated what the shop's argument will be. I never said whether they were right or wrong. I've been in this game long enough to realise that shops will never admit to fault and will always try to shift the blame. That was the point I was trying to make. Most shop's will make you sign a document that you received the bike back in good order. I cannot say if this was done or not, but if the OP did sign such a document, his chances of success are even less. He is protected by the CPA, which will hold the shop liable for such damages, but it's going to be a fight. But anyway, this is all speculation, he must approach the bike shop, point out the damage and their bad workmanship that lead to the damage and see what they say.
  7. It's going to be tough getting them to pay for the damage to the frame. They will probably argue that you shouldn't have ridden it like that and you should have brought it back to them. They will argue that if the cranks were sliding enough for the chain ring to hit the frame, it would have been apparent from the onset that there was a problem. I would still take it up with them though and maybe they will show a bit of goodwill and will repair the damage.
  8. I wouldn't trust any product that has fraudulently used another manufacturer's branding and intellectual property in order to profit from it. I've heard horror stories of things like fake handle bars and seat posts breaking during rides. I haven't heard anything about these fake Boras failing, but still wouldn't take the risk. The tarmac is pretty hard when doing 50km/h or more.
  9. And implicate himself as being party to a criminal offence as he knew they were fake when buying.
  10. Good news. LMP1 has been lacking manufacturer involvement for some time. I think only Toyota is left. From what I have seen, the new Hypercar regs to try and encourage manufacturer involvement has kinda failed. Be that as it may, Sports Prototypes have been a favourite of mine since I was a kid. I cannot wait for the WEC at Kyalami next year.
  11. I had a set of AM 350 Sprint. Damn those things were light. Didn't American Classic close down a few years ago or did they find a buyer?
  12. Is this the SuperSix? I didn't realise that they had a rim brake version. Damn nice bike.
  13. A little bit on the expensive side.
  14. The Scott is a 27.5, Raleigh 26 and the others all 29ers.
  15. I have come across someone selling 6 mtb aluminium frames. 3 x Titan HT, 1 x Scott HT, 1 X Raleigh HT and 1 x Axis FS. The person owned a second hand shop and has closed down. They want R1 000 for all 6. At first I thought is was a bargain and went racing off to check them out. Most are in good condition except the one Titan that is scratched to pieces. Do you think that there is a market for these types of frames? None of them have headsets or hangers. My plan was to build the Axis into a bike for myself (never owned a fs before) and sell all the hard tails for R100 to R300 each (depending on condition). Will I get buyers at that price, bearing in mind, no headset and no hangers?
  16. You don't mention how much money is left over from the purchase and how much you have for a helmet. There is a saying, a $5 helmet for a $5 head. Having said that, you don't have to spend thousands on a fancy helmet. Get one from a reputable store (not a supermarket) and get a reputable brand (such as the ones mentioned above). There are plenty of others not mentioned. Most good helmets have some kind of safety certification. Just make sure that the one you buy has that certification and you should be fine.
  17. The deduction goes to the person who pays the medical aid. You will need to upload the certificate as well as your bank statements showing the payment. SARS doesn't always understand this and they raise assessments and one has to object. I have started uploading a letter with the supporting docs stating the sections of the IT Act which covers this. Since then, I have had no issues
  18. Had the same thing happen on my one week old bike I bought (Shimano wheels). The wheel was replaced under warranty. The new wheel now has about 25k on it and is still going strong.
  19. Last year, there was a guy selling a 2004 Scott for R10k more than the price of the equivalent new one. I sent him the link to the new price. So he dropped his price by R2 000. So it was still R8k more than new. Some people just don't get it.
  20. Nice build, but is that a GT Zaskar? Looks like a CKT.
  21. I haven't read through this thread, so not sure if this has been mentioned. Stay away from JVC. I bought a Smart TV from them. 1 month out of warranty it's ability to connect to wifi stopped. According to Google a common problem. After 3 months of looking for solutions, got it to work again (with zero help from the importers Nuworld and the place I got it from). Now the Youtube app has become obsolete and the TV will not allow you to re-install (or install any other app for that matter, despite the fact it comes with Google Play Store). Again a common problem. I'm just waiting for Netflix to do the same. Technical department at Nuworld don't answer their phone or reply to emails. Customer Service department are no different. Sent mails to numerous managers, with no responses. So, JVC is rubbish and their customer service is rubbish.
  22. This is true
  23. It says they will continue to use the Williams name. For how long, remains to be seen
  24. It is simple.........Cyclists over complicate things.
  25. Nope.....you are responding to a year old post. They did respond to him, they refuted his claim.
