  11. Surfing lessons 1st Would have liked to be on the green waves before winter hits properly, but I am running out of weekends with riding trips planned to Rotorua (EWS and Crankworks) end of this month and then the whole of April almost in USA...Sis and I are going to LA though for a bit of time in the water/on the boards
  12. Last night for the 1st time in a very very long time I was so tired I had my hands on my knees from exhaustion! Squash! I was begging for the game to end..hahaha! Thanks WP for getting me into this!

  14. Had so much fun this weekend, all I rode was waves (no bikes for the 1st time this year I think). My eyes got proper rinsed out with salt water and I discover that I burp a lot while surfing and it just taste like salt water....hahaha...although I didn't really swallow any water (thank goodness) A little bit more of myself regarding water sports....I am scared (as in terrified) of water! Not just from the stuff (animals) inside but also from drowning etc. I taught myself how to freestyle swim at 28years old (before that I just did doggie paddle and granny style, and being able to drift on my back I always saw as my saving grace) and although I grew up along the coast I never did the body surfing or body boarding etc (was always scared of loosing my costume.. ). This weekend was totally different though, with the wetsuit on I felt I was indestructible..haha.. diving into waves, felt very comfy in the water even the once or twice the waves broke on me, or I nose dived the board etc I was lucky with very good weather in Raglan, the waves were small though. Quite some work needed to catch them. Ragland = apparently there is a time where the waves from the 3 bays run into each other and you can stay on the wave (if you are a good surfer) for like 10min....true story! Leg pump! (kinda like arm pump like we riders get) The 1st day out I had a ship of a board so I could stand on my 1st wave/try and then be on the white water till the end: The 2nd day I had a much smaller board, still soft top, but I had to get use to it 1st (struggled more to stand and had to lie WAY more back to not nose dive). Some 'tricks' I learnt for myself was that it helps A LOT to lift your head and shoulders up up the moment the wave hits, it helps not to nose dive and also when you are a bit slow for the wave to be completely on it, just push down with your hands a bit more to the front of the board to just get it over the front of the wave. The best thing for me was to get that sweet spot where I 'learnt' the 2nd board and then could catch and stand on each wave till my arms got tired! I went for a banana break then I honestly loved it and want to get to know it more and would like to improve...the steps from now will be hard though and maybe will go for a surfing course or so, like a 3 day thing, one-on-one coaching. Urgh, why didn't I start this earlier in my life...
  15. I saw them doing this here in Mount Maunganui the other weekend when I was there. Most cars parked along the beach had 5l bottles on their roofs.
  16. 2nd time last night on the squash court in NZ (with "The Potgieters"), probably my 7th hour in my life and I am really enjoying it! Think I might just 'get into it' Going to Raglan this weekend for the 1st time, going to try and go catch some waves! Excited. I have never been in a wetsuit though, I am going to feel like such a noob never mind look like one.
  17. It was my thought this morning exactly! Edit: luckily I didn't get taken out, but 1 close calls the last couple of days.
  18. That I needed this.....with winter coming, I hope it will help https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/116861-boast-about-your-latest-purchases-here/?p=3070067
  19. Because commuting has become the way that gets me to work and back home and winter is coming (dark mornings)..... https://lumoshelmet.co/
  20. My last couple of weeks of riding I saw my butt quite a lot....riding at Rotorua and pushing boundaries a bit. I was silly the one day and went down a Grade 5 blind without putting my knee pads on (which was in my back pack) and then well I crashed: The following weekend, another trail, blind, I crashed, LUCKILY had my knee pads on but they got a bit hurt. This crash also made me start thinking I might opt for a full face while riding trails here, had a bad face fall, those roots are lethal man.. Edit: Now I am in the market for new knee pads again, I will go with the same, if only I could fine them in stock somewhere
  21. 1st weekend without riding plans this year, it feels odd. (Looking at my bruised body, maybe a good thing though) Also drove my car into work this whole week, feels horrible! My emotional state is definitely linked to time spent riding (even if it is only commuting). With this rain I might go give rock climbing a go this weekend, use those movie tickets I go last year August already from work (have no idea what's showing), work clothes shopping (in need desperately) ...hope things clear up by Sunday! Edit: yip, 1st world problems...haha
  22. Constantly, from the 1st hour in I would think, your body will not allow you to go that long without knowing it is going to be fed before it runs out low
