  1. I was in F group and this "strategy" created a whole bunch of problems. It's simple physics that the rider at the back coming out of the slipstream will be faster on the downhills. They then try to squeeze through every nook and cranny or go over the white line in order to gain a few metres. I didn't feel comfortable with that and I consider that rather reckless.
  2. Just checked the small print: "The short period between the Gryphon 99er and the CTCT 2023 has created some unsolvable logistical challenges. One of these is that 99er participants’ times will not automatically be used for seeding purposes for the 2023 CTCT. The organisers of the CTCT have, however, indicated that CTCT entrants who have participated in the Gryphon 99er Cycle Tour, may submit a re-seeding request if they believe their Gryphon 99er result will improve their starting time for the 2023 CTCT. The results of the 2023 Gryphon 99er Cycle Tour will automatically be taken into account for seeding purposes in the 2024 CTCT."
  3. I can't believe this - same thing happened with my Scalpel just now. I was able to push back the axle with a hammer and a piece of pipe just enough to get rear wheel out. Once I got it out the cassette fell off - seems that the freewheel body just disintegrated. The axle is still stuck inside the hub. Time for a new rear hub I guess...
  4. You should have received an email and SMS, otherwise on racetec.
  5. Ah - thanks for clarifying. I did the 110km route. I wish I had known this beforehand. I wanted to improve my seeding for the CTCT but this backfired now with the penalty 🙂 Doesn't really make sense to me though - could have kept it at 5 or so.
  6. Could anyone explain why the One Tonner has a penalty of 15 in the racetec seeding? I thought the penalty is for time passed since the event. Are there any other factors that influence the penalty?
  7. Does anyone know if registration can also be done on race day or is it mandatory to go to one of the registration locations on Thursday or Friday?
  8. MTBer here with a genuine question: How do you swap a shifter cable on these things? Is that still a DIY job?
  9. While they are at it we should ask them to add berms. We so need berms around the roundabout...
  10. It must have something to do with the socks - I think they pick people by their choice of cycling socks...
  11. Nope - placeholder content all over the place. No contact phone number. Email address does not match domain name. Social media links not linking to respective content (or does not exist yet)
  12. Why would you publish the website URI before the site is finished???
  13. You can also get it at Simon's Town Tourist Information Center. They are open at weekends from 9am - 1pm I believe. So maybe go for a Peninsula ride and bring your 2 passport pics with you :-)
  14. You need to compare apples with apples. I still have to come across a single day XCM race or stage race that is technically more demanding than the Cape Epic. Of course if your reference is an Enduro race or the downhill sections in Tokai forest than the Cape Epic will come short.
  15. I think SA entries are already decoupled from the USD fee. You pay slightly less with a South African ID.
  16. At this years Cape Epic the Novus OMX team where riding on Sestas. They finished 11th overall - I think one can assume they are pretty fast bikes as well :-) Regarding the rear suspension - one thing to consider is that with the rear shock above the bottom bracket you'll need a lockout lever at the handlebar. Underneath the top tube it's easy to flip it with your hand. And I really like my 2 bottle cages setup on the Cube.
  17. It will be difficult to beat the CUBE AMS in value for money. The only frameset available in SA seems to be the NINER for 32k. I don't think you can add a XT groupset + Wheels for under 15k.
  18. The 2014 frame is on sale here - unfortunately in Germany: http://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/cube-ams-100-super-hpc-race-29-frame-blackline-497554/wg_id-276 Don't know about VAT and duties - but might be worth it.
  19. Dude - it has always been like that. You must realize that this would be unenforceable. Do you think they check the settings of each GPS unit? I think to remember that even in the official reminder email they nicely ask you to make the ride private on Strava - not to remove it. I really don't understand the rant about the tracking. Track it - keep it private for you as a memory.
  20. Tracking is allowed - not allowed is making it public...
  21. I can understand the frustration because there were a lot of steep, tough climbs to master. There were also a few organisational things I did not like and thought to be better in 2014. But IMHO this year's route was fantastic. Scenery and the single tracks were absolutely amazing and will be difficult to top. Only the last stage was everything mountainbiking is not about - long stretches of farm / district roads into a headwind. Not my cuppa of coffee.
  22. The Noordhoek Loop is exactly as it was before - except the Watsonias blooming magnificently at the moment... Only alteration made is that the short single track section at the foot of the dam has been cleared of the surrounding vegetation. If I remember correctly there were more bushes and small trees before the closure. Feels faster somehow...
  23. Yes - no problem. Dam is full of water - some trees are also still standing :-)
  24. Not all of the pros are listed yet. For example German Sabine Spitz has confirmed that she will be racing in 2016. Topeak Ergon posted on facebook that they want to win the Epic. And I'm pretty sure Jose Antonio Hermida will be on the starting line as well.
