  1. What a day's cycling. That finish was just awesome. How strong was Sagan?
  2. C'mon Grumpy, the flat stages are fantastic (IMHO), Sean, David and Carlton talk up a storm, there are the crashes, there is the adrenalin rush of the final 5kms, the awesome power of the sprinters and hours and hours of the same futile attacks by the lesser teams. And on Eurosport, tons of interviews with the Directeurs sportifs in their cars, the interviews with the riders. Oh I could go on. I love the opening week. It's like going to a 5 day test match, not much minute by minute action but a very satisfying experience. Maybe you're not watching it properly? Why is the PVR still a time based machine rather than a smart code machine? How hard is it to set a PROGRAM to be recorded, then it can appear on any channel and VOILA, it gets recorded? But no, they're too doff to do programme based recording. So we sit with this issue of missed events. And our subscriptions get wasted on farking golf, tennis and rugby. And now box office.
  3. And if you're a nice guy you can even negotiate on price if you've seen it cheaper elsewhere. Most shops I know give a 10% to 15% discount to regulars. And offer bigger discounts on slow moving stuff.
  4. Delivery charges in South Africa are out of line with the first world and makes interweb shopping a very difficult business to run. We don't have a Parcel Force like in the UK where smaller volume items can be delivered nest day to your door for as little as 3 quid, our Post Office is slow and unreliable (although relativley cheap) and not to door for parcels. The result, we use couriers. At R80 minimum courier charge the retailer is not making extra money from you on the courier fees, in fact I doubt the courier is making money. Now why should a retailer, who has given you a saving on the price of R300 item have to pay the courier? Weight dependent SAPO would charge you R35 for a week to the post office and collect service. We do see free delivery over certain amounts, the cost of delivery is absorbed out of margin to encourage bigger orders. It is still paid by someone. There is no cheaper alternative available, logistics cost stifle online business in this country. Simple solution? There isn't one until SAPO lifts their game and we are offered an alternative free in so many days or paid overnight to your door.
  5. I disagree, SAPO are very reliable. At stealing your stuff.
  6. With 700m at between 12% and 15% on cobbles! Bumpy old day, if the pace is fast the sprinters won't be near the front come the last climb to the finish.
  7. No, it's browser is Flash barred so porn and cycling sites don't work too good. Off topic: 2 best apps I ever saw in recommended apps were a "menstrual cycle calculator" and a "where did I park my car tracker for a car park". Both critical in my life.
  8. My Granddad did brilliantly: 113. USAHORNER Christopher 14 RADIOSHACK-NISSAN 07' 47'' + 00' 34''
  9. Eurosport coverage is consistent across all ProTour races. Because it costs money and StupidSport would rather waste your money on rugby. Oh, and on dividends for shareholders.
  10. He doesn't have calves. He has cows.
  11. Well, the programme says TDF 14:30 on SS6 Tune in and it's not on. Typical. Thank goodness I watch EuroSport streaming, this is absolute cr@p from StupidSport. Why do I pay them 700 rondt a month?
  12. Low intensity is about time. If you've only got 30 minutes then go the tabata route, warm up followed by 20 secs MAXIMUM effort 10 secs recovery repeat 8 times. Total work out 4 minutes. Then warm down. It's said your body feels the benefit from a fat burning / recovery point after a tabata for up to 30 hours. edit typo
  13. You are right, I agree. Same diet with more exercise will lead to a bit of weight loss. However, to get really lean and tight you need both. The reason for this is that you strain your heart more at 85% than at 65% so the body goes to the easiest source of energy which is the protein stored in muscle. Recovery is then about rebuilding muscle. You can go for hours and hours at 65% but a shorter time at 85%. Weight loss doesn't come from intensive work. Fitness and strength comes from intensive work. Fat and glucose are the body's two main energy sources. Stored carbohydrate called glycogen is quickly used up, then goes the fat stores. Weight loss comes when your body has used up the glycogen and starts converting fat into glucose. Put too much strain on the heart and it goes straight for the protein stored in your muscles. That's why eating carbs during exercise when trying to get your weight down is not needed. Drink water and eat nothing during low intensity work outs (below 78%). Teach the body to use it's fat stores through prolonged exercise at lower intensities and you build endurance which then enables you to build strength. Carmichael reckons each hour exercise below 78% requires an hour recovery, every hour over 80% requires 8 hours recovery (unless you on EPO)
  14. Yes Tumble, I believe so: "All respondents will have the opportunity to exercise their right to a full public arbitration hearing, should they so choose, where all evidence would be presented, witness testimony would be given under oath, and an independent group of arbitrators would ultimately decide the outcome of the case. USADA will continue to follow the established procedures that are compliant with federal law and were approved by athletes, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and all Olympic sports organizations." Should Armstrong wish to fight the charges, the case will go in front of an arbitration panel, where all of the evidence will be aired. Armstrong stands to lose at least one of his Tour titles due to the eight-year statute of limitations on doping charges, however the World Anti-Doping Agency confirmed to Cyclingnews that older evidence may be used to support current charges in certain cases. "An arbitration panel will also have to consider whether evidence outside the period of eight years can be used to corroborate evidence within the limitations period," WADA's Terence O'Rorke said. http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/12249/USADA-confirms-unanimous-decision-to-press-doping-charges-against-Armstrong-Bruyneel-and-others.aspx edit added link to velonation article
  15. Martin Wiggins Spartacus
  16. That's a no brainer. The tallboy carbon at about 2 kg and R26k RRP or the Tallboy Alloy at 2.7 kg and R7k less.
  17. Exercise cannot overcome a bad diet, if you eat badly and excessively you will not lose as much weight as you will if you follow a moderate intake with the same amount of exercise. FACT. Then it's the type of exercise you do. Slow and steady for longer periods burns more fat than intense and short. FACT. Short and intense tends to burn muscle.
  18. Finally! 3 weeks of nothing else but le Tour edit added video
  19. I really don't care about his titles. If found guilty by the review board we'll all know that he is a liar and a cheat. And his whole post 1998 career has been a fraud. Only because he has stated so often "I've never doped". If the review board finds him innocent of the charges (luckily, unlike a criminal case, not proven is not an option) then I'll be able to accept that he is truly an exceptional super human athlete and honest.
  20. And then pull out when JB says something nasty. Oh no, it's JB who'll pull out
  21. Jealous? Hell yes! Enjoy it, it's such a buzz watching the peloton go by, the caravan, the pros and then the entourage. Goes for ever.
