  2. Simple logic says that there is no point getting upset with motorists. If you cannot contain your frustration, then you have a serious problem, because abusive motorists will never change their ways. I firmly believe that the vast majority of motorists are law abiding citizens who do not deliberately go out to harass or injure cyclists, it's the minority that cause the problem. And the same applies to cyclists. The majority do what they can to foster good relations with other road users by riding responsibly, but there is always a small group who behave badly and irritate motorists. That's life. Accept it.
  3. Maybe put some of that 20k wax on the cassette. If it's good enough to protect an Audi, it should do a fine job on the cassette as well
  4. I found a Racetec chip at the track last night ~ the bracket is broken so it must have fallen off someone's bike. Anyone who's lost a chip there, or knows of a lost chip, let me know.
  5. Yes. You can mix and match any ratio on Shimano cassettes. I'm talking road cassettes ~ not sure about the cassettes the dirty people use.
  6. Very true. It depends a lot on riding style.
  7. Yip, you have your wild animals, and we have ours on the road. Some of ours behave much worse than yours.
  8. Also bear in mind if it is Shimano, you can combine the two cassettes ie make a 11-27, so you don't lose the benefit of the 11 on the flats. Once again, the group won't wait while you are spinning in your 12 on the flats while they are cruising on an 11
  9. Changing the cassette will be much cheaper than changing cranks. Using a 27 will make a slight difference, but try to work your way back to a 25 or even a 23 as soon as possible. The group isn't going to wait while you spin up the hills in your 27....
  10. Getting municipal approval for something like this is nearly impossible. Too much red tape. It falls into the same category as potholes ~ they are supposed to fix them, but don't, then when you fix them yourself they threaten you with all sort of legal issues.
  11. Easy to fix. Step 1: Get rid of the mountain bike. Step 2: Shave those hairy pins. Step 3: Get a road bike. Problem solved.
  12. The way I understand the news reports, Alonso is the face and Ferrari will be writing the cheque. If that's the case, they are going to want their name somewhere. Not too many orange Ferrari's floating around out there..

    D2D

In my opinion, no. My 94.7 time has always been between 5 and 10 minutes faster than my D2D time. Didn't do D2D this year, but conditions looked tough.

    D2D

It's either my imagination, or the cold snap over the weekend kept D2D numbers down this year. I was training in the Cradle, opposite direction to the race, and it looked to me like there were maybe 1000 riders in total. I'm pretty sure its normally about 1500 for the long distance. It was interesting to watch the race from the "other side", looked like some of the guys were suffering badly.
  15. If I understand this correctly, the car going in the same direction as the cyclist stopped to allow another motorist to turn in front of him (so the cyclist was behind the car at that time), then, the cyclist goes past the stationary car (left or right, doesn't matter), and hits the car that was allowed through. If that's the case, the cyclist caused the accident, and any insurance assessor with more than 3 hours experience will know it.
  16. Just like cyclists, there are considerate and inconsiderate joggers In this case, both parties were wrong. The joggers should have been more considerate and moved a bit to the side. The cyclist should have anticipated what was going to happen and taken avoiding action long before the contact point. It happens, and will continue to happen. Nothing you can do about it.
  17. Fixed it.

  19. Nobody is defending the taxi driver. The majority of them behave like a-holes, but the fact remains it was initially reported as a hit and run (which it wasn't), and now it is simply assumed that the driver was in the wrong. That's not how it works, for a taxi driver or any other motorist. Further, to assume that the driver is automatically wrong because Burry was a "pro bike handler" is ludicrous.
  20. I must be missing something. I thought this was considered a normal traffic accident? Surely you can't expect to lynch every motorist who is involved in a collision with a cyclist.
  21. No matter how many of these reports I read, I just cannot get my head around it. How does a person drive into a cyclist, pedestrian, or animal for that matter, and simply speed off, just leaving the victim lying in the road? It is beyond belief. How do you live with yourself after doing such a thing? As far as the cops behaviour is concerned, well, no suprise there.
  22. Where is the "above R500,000" button, I want that one. This poll is total bull****.
  23. When marketing a new concept, keeping prospective clients is suspense in this manner has been proven to be a good way of building up excitement. However, it can get to a point where it becomes annoying. That point has been reached with this thread. Yaaaaaaawwwwwnnnn.
  24. It happens when riders can't tell the difference between racing and training. They are taught that when racing, moving up the middle is the best way to conserve energy. It becomes a habit, and soon they do it on every ride. On training rides it's dumb, and dangerous.
  25. I didn't use it at first, but often had saddlesore issues. Have never had a problem since using it, so now it's as routine as getting dressed.
