  1. Real men don't cream their bums. Would Chuck cream his bum? Would Rambo cream his bum?
  2. BRILLIANT!!! I love it man, those pix bring back so many memories of those days. The 'bull bar' bar ends, that helmet. MTB was a baaaaad looking game back then. I'd love to go back in time and pin some of those downhills again on my new bike.
  3. hehe, thanks man. I REALLY like your bike btw, but my eyes had this terrible buring sensation when I saw the high saddle I'd reckon it's pretty hard to do decent DH with a seat that high. There's no room to move. I'd choose a BMX first. But seriously leka bike man. I almost hate you right now. No, I'm referring to the bum cream thing. I just can't look at an XC bike the same anymore. http://circlecitybicycles.com/cbutter.htm
  4. PLUS, these bikes look really stupid with the seat so high, like a creamed up XC bike. Ride with the seat however you want, but drop it for photos. Your bike will thank you for it
  5. Hey man, I mean no disrespect here, and I'm sorry for your ordeal. Let me just say that I personally think it's bullsh!t that we have to bring these leeches down ourselves. I'm not going to go dressed as Rambo when I ride, packing guns, knives, sprays and tracking devices. I'm not going to risk my life because we have an understaffed, corrupt, lazy police force. Look at Table Mountain as an example. Here is a place where tourists come from all over the World, with very defined paths and in my opinion, an easy area to manage (we're not asking troops to patrol every nook of the hills, just the areas frequented). All we get is hot air, lies and empty promises. The crime continue as normal. Why should I, as a taxpayer, have to join action groups and risk my life to try and bring these criminals to book, when I PAY TO HAVE A POLICE FORCE TO PROTECT ME. Maybe they should start doing their jobs, stop stealing our tax money, start training more cops and start actually doing something about the problem. It's not rocket science or CSI stuff this. These are uneducated morons living in the bushes in the hills robbing people for their phones. It's hardly like trying to catch Dexter here. They just need to get on with it. TMNP wake up.
  6. sick photo
  7. Crow, none of these pics show that a carbon frame will survive a sharp impact. These pics all show it doing what it's designed to do. I'd like to see a before/after pic of a frame like that smacking a tree on a DH crash, or getting crashed in a rock garden. I've picked up bikes i've crashed on and seen dents etc that without a doubt would kill a frame like that. Awesome bikes though, but you need to be able to properly afford a carbon frame to ride one..
  8. Hey can you guys lower your seats before taking these photos. These bikes look dumb with the seat above the bars like that, and I challenge you to ride a decent line with your arse so high in the air
  9. Morning. I've just been reading THIS LINK with regards to the crime up on Table Mountain. These crimes are happening frequently now, and with recend lip service being paid about the issue, it pains me to see that of course, as usual, it's just hot air. It's not as if violent crimes have not been committed here. Being held up at gun/knife point is a crime, and a serious one. For tourism this is disgusting, but let's face it, how hard would it be to have some military patrolling these hills. How about sending some cops up to Rasta cave to clear that out? As mentioned in the article, how hard is it to employ a couple of guards who walk these popular routes with radios. As usual, there is just no organisation here. We're being chased away from our beautiful natural resources by fear mongering leeches who prey on tax paying citizens. How about these politicians do their bloody jobs for a change.
  10. beautiful!
  11. Yes, that's a great choice. You can't go wrong with that. You'll be able to ride just about everything. You can always upgrade things like shocks later on too. Something with a high volume canister, piggy back. Maybe later look into a Cane Creek double with Ti spring. The Lyric forks will be a dream on that rig. Don't worry about weight either. Build it strong, be sensible. If the bike feels heavy then do some gym but ja, leka bike that man. Go for it.
  12. Nope, never met him. I've a friend waaaaay North who rides one. As you felt, the M9 is an awesome bike. Maybe the best. Now unless you can lock out some of that juicy plushness, you'll be stuffed riding trails and uphills. But yeah, thats the point of the DH rig. Mop up the bumps like a bergie at the soup kitchen.
  13. Sorry to ruin your fun The OP was asking about Gauteng though? The M9 is a great choice for any DH run, although my mate seems to walk a lot with his. Things I can easily ride on my 6.5 AM rig. Look if you need to impress the ladies get the M9. I've seen them literally scream and throw panties like the you're the Beetles if you're on that Intense. Just don't expect to do that rig any justice if you're not hitting gnarly runs.
  14. DH rig is total overkill for most riding up there. It's overkill for most riding in the Cape too. Unless you are focussed on DH, then I'd not waste the time on an 8 inch bike. It might look cool and the ladies might think you look like a champ on your 'big' bike, wait until you hit the first hill and see what a wimp you'll feel like. Single 38 ring up front, no granny gear, oversized everything. Your best all round bike for up there would be something like a Meta 5.5 etc. Oh and this is from experience btw. I've had a trailbike (5.5), an AM bike (6.5 inch) and a DH bike (8 inch). I ride the AM now as it climbs well too, and I live for the descents. Most versatile bike was the 5.5. It could do just about anything (within reason) but it easily handled 6 foot drops, could climb like a hardtail, was light. Or, you could get the DH rig, and ride around the spruit like a tool.
  15. Covie, I like your headspace. Your posts are sensible. Thanks for being at the party. Just something to think about regarding private security. In the government's eyes, it's the best thing you can have. Basically, there's less cops that they need to train and hire, so there's more tax money to steal, AND, the ADT's/Chubbs etc have to pay tax on their earnings, so there's even more money to steal. There's no interest for them to work it any other way.
  16. The problem with this idea is that most of these bikes get sold for parts. Another issue is that lots of people don't ride at bike parks and don't race. The biggest problem is my freedom. What right do you have to suspect me of being involved in criminal activities and expecting me to let you scan my things? Next thing we'll have airport style x-ray machines at Tokai's gate. Why not just take down the serial numbers of each component (shock, forks, fram, brakes), and have it stamped at the police station. Then, get bike insurance and stop worrying.
  17. Tighten it to the rec. torque. If it slips, then you need paste.
  18. Sorry to say but it looks like you've bought too big there. I'm 1.79cm and battle to justify a medium even. The bike lifting is due to being too far back on the bike. Try shifting the saddle forward. Does your fork have some kind of pre-load setting that you can activate on the hills. I ride a long travel bike that lifts on ascents, however I'm able to drop the fork from 165 to 120mm which makes climbing great. Btw, you should be able to take the bike back. They sold you the incorrect size bike. Refund.
  19. It's getting worse by the year. It pains me deeply. So much potential. This talk of Nationalising things and taking property/farms is very troublesome. Firstly, I don't think they understand that the economy is based on business and land values. You only need to look at Zim to see the results of killing the golden goose. I gave up long ago though. We've stopped buying property here. I didnt upgrade my car this year, I've started a company with a partner in the US and we've started becoming comfy with the idea of living in a different place. It pisses me off. This country is as much my birthright as any other South African's. My forefathers fought just as hard to make it great. My father risked his life in Angola so that we can ALL be safe. Now we have to see it all pissed away like this. I hear you about being armed. I'm happy to be armed at home, or travelling etc. Out in the hills it's harder to be alert and ready. In a house you are forewarned. First you'd hear the dogs, then an alarm, by then the gunsafe is open, by the time they pop their head through the freshly broken window there's a nice hollowpoint on the way. Anyway. I'm off for a ride. Finally.
  20. hahaha
  21. Yes, if you see anyone acting out of line, being rude to people, cutting corners, riding up the down sections, not following good trail park ethics and generally being a dick...then it's probably me Seriously though, call them out on it. Don't sit by and watch as others stuff up this amazing place. We need to respect it, and to do this we need to respect each other. And if you encounter aggro while standing up for our park you can bet it'll be dealt with. These kinds of areas need to be self-policing. We all need to keep an eye out for the one thing we can all agree on. Also, with regards to littering. I'm tired of getting home from a session with my pack full of other riders' rubbish. If you brought it in, you take it out. What the hell do you need gels for at Tokai anyway? Regarding the baboons, they were there first. They have right of way. Be kind to them, slow down if they are nearby. Do not shout at them or give them food. PoS, I've a couple of web designer mates if you need a hand with the site. I'd be happy to help out designing trail cards, signs etc. Even with a cash donation to get the ball rolling. Shot guys
  22. You can put me down for 1 if you decide to get an order going. I'm keen to know how the SOS function on it works. It'd be cool if this contacts a number with GPS co-ords should an accident happen etc. This way I'd not need to take a cellphone riding. I hate getting calls when I'm out in the hills so really it's just about being able to call the medics should I wrap my arse around a pine tree.
  23. That small tracker looks very good. If we all rode with these, and hid them well inside our packs, I think it'd lead to arrests being made. That's a very workable solution. Can we get them for R200 a piece though?
  24. Careful now, it's addictive. You'll have your 29er up on Gumtree before long (since they don't do 29er DH rigs 'cos theyre kuk )
  25. We don't expect etiquette from guys up North It's going to be hard to shout anything with the amount of dust that you'll be munching on! oi, and leave the creams at home mate.
