  1. I also wear a t-shirt when I ride. Does this make me a novice? Jokes aside, this whole idea of us having to run around policing the place reminds me of prefects at school. Most people ride up the DH not as an act of defiance, but because they have no idea that it's one way only. How would they know? There is no signage! David, please try to get this chip off your shoulder about DH riders. It's not cool. I'm sure you are a cool guy, so no need to carry on about other styles of riding. Also, if you are at a trail park and you come up behind a slower rider you have no right to shout "track" or expect them to move, so your altruism there isn't really that justified. It's only in races that you can expect this. At the park, you wait. I often just pull off the trail and chill for a couple of minutes. We're all there to have fun, no?
  2. I ranted about this issue ages ago. There was a huge thread about it. I offered my own cash and time to put signs up. I agree that without signs, how are people meant to know??? If I'm a first time rider there, how must I know that the trail I'm riding up is a DH (the sign is at the TOP of the trail, plus it doesn't say ONE WAY ONLY). Even the MTN bike park trails say one way only. It's a given. Now all I read on here are trail building days, and guys going off about this root, and that corner etc, but what about the basic stuff, like the issue of safety where people are riding up a DH line? What happened to these signs that were being put together? Pain or Shine (not sure who he is except for this avatar), any info? I guess we'll just have to wait until someone gets seriously hurt because of this negligence. Just remember, I offered. I've a buddy who has a signage company and I offered to pay for this (even though we all pay to ride there). It's really pathetic to act only when something forces you to. This is an ongoing issue and there is no indication of a resolve. It's basically 4 signs. One at the bottom of Vasbyt, one at the next level, and one at the bottom of DH 2 & 3. 4 measly signs that could prevent someone getting seriously hurt. They could even be sponsored if the cost to dig the hole is too steep. I'll bet that bike shops will fight over sponsoring a sign that can have their logo on it. Lets rather wait until some rider going 50km/h+ fully connects an un-armoured kid on his way up. I was there the other day, and also saw 3 riders going up the berm there. Is there a governing body or similar that we can start writing letters to about this? Clearly we are getting nowhere with this route.
  3. who keeps their bike outside? I mean seriously?????
  4. ...and they are crap. They sound bad, the build quality is poor, the wood isn't as good either. The best Fenders are American made. Now if you had to compare an American made Fender to a Japanese from the vintage era, the Japanese wins hands down...but thats a different story. Good luck convincing yourself btw. I wonder why Patrick Morewood left his company behind. Something to do with cheap cut corners in China? Mass produced is never a good thing.
  5. It is not acceptable to put bar ends onto riser bars. It's also not acceptable to wear lycra, unless you are a girl. Riser bars differ from flat bars in the angles. Flat bars are for riders who need an excuse for being technically poor riders. And yes, 29ers are clunky, sluggish road bikes with fat tyres. You will never see one outperform a 26 inch when it comes to technical ability.
  6. So am I! That's why I have medical aid. It's crazy how knotted you girls gets your panties. haha
  7. shampies tnt, spandex too tight?
  8. Hey there are no punches. It's just words. In the real World I'll help out anyone, and I greet everyone too. Just don't be a dick and ride up downhills, or not yield when I'm bleeding up a singletrack. Common law always stands. It still doesn't make me like seeing a 40+ grown man who has not looked after himself, standing in spandex in the carpark. Do these fools not look in the mirror and feel the shame? When it comes to situations like these, in the words of the mighty Skeletor: "I am not prejudice, I hate you all the same". Cheers.
  9. I think because for a roadie the MTB is just another hill climbing intervals session. This is why those same chops descend on the fire road instead of learning the skills involved in controlling a bike on loose surfaces and it's why we end up seeing roadies smeared all over the place when they even sniff a water break. @Martin. Dude, those days are long gone thank goodness. I have all the respect in the World for 'No-Way-Ray', but that lycra phase was appalling. Why not get yourself a nice pair of shorts for riding? Nobody wants to see your boep and chop bru! TNT, sigh. So aggressive. So many big bad swear words. Just breathe, then unknot your panties.
  10. ag, shampies.
  11. I didnt say I minded it though. READ carefully. You are assuming things. Getting slammed on Moet is a waste of money too, but I don't mind that either. Seems like you are offended by my roadie remark? Is that why it's in red?
  12. http://www.looklocal.co.za/looklocal/content/en/alberton/alberton-news-sport?oid=1523127&sn=Detail&pid=1171126&Helivac---your-cycle-buddy-for-life http://helivac.wordpress.com/what-is-helivac/ Local non-medical aid Heli-vac @ R149/month. Now how to convince them that my 'doctor' is on top of the mountain, and I need to be lifted there 4 times per day per weekend.
  13. The only thing I'm going to tell you is to please use spellcheck in future. Now before you get all uptight about your rights and blah blah, save your (figurative) breath. I don't care. Ignore my posts rather, then breathe. Some interesting info on heli-vac: http://bb.nsmb.com/showthread.php?t=142391 (@ Whistler) http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=204365 At a glance I see one heli-vac going for $2750 and another at $12k. Seems like that insurance is a BIG must for sure. I for one am glad that we have free vac here. Not complaining at all. (I never gave my opinion on it btw - all the panties went flying when I mentioned the price and who pays). As a taxpayer I'm glad to see my money being spent on chopper flips
  14. Haha, seems like it's Crybaby day on the hub today. wow. Smile
  15. Why is it thoughtless? It's FACT! Don't try to deduce anything from my posts Chubba. I fall plenty. I'm for the most part well protected though. I don't see why a personal attack is in order here. Cheer up. DID I TELL YOU OTHERWISE? I said if it's ER24 then Medical aid pays, Red&white chopper City pays. Please don't get your panties all in a knot. Relax.
  16. I've just blocked your posts. Do the same and we'll never have to cross paths. Thanks. Touche'! No bum cream this side! seems like Tokai's been getting it's fair share of bumcream-spandex-warriors these days. Thankfully we have the downhills. It's easy to put a price on one's life. In europe if you don't have a credit card or insurance they will not send a chopper. Yes, it's THAT bad. But, you'd be a lot more careful and less reckless if you knew there was no chance of getting rescued quickly. The price of a human life in SA is about 1 cellphone these days, or what was the price of the 400 000 people that Thabo saw off? Correct, it's the fuel, the servicing the pilot etc.
  17. Sorry girls, I didnt see the ER24 chopper bit. Yes, Medical would foot this bill. If you see the red & white chopper this is the city. Yes, 16k. Costs money to keep a bird like that in the sky. k, you can put your panties on now people. And yes, I sort of kind of have an issue with roadies at Tokai. Mostly because I'd rather not have to see your ass in lycra, or have to wait behind you because you're too scared to go through a 5cm deep puddle. When in Rome I guess. ***flame suit on***
  18. shame rouxtjie, joburg making you grumpy? PLEASE block me so you don't have to read any of my posts. Thanks rouxtjie. Now if you READ my post. I SAID accidents happen. I was just mentioning that every time you see a heli-vac, it's costing the City substantially. Many places in Europe charge the injured for a chopper. The rider who went down must have been in critical condition as there are roads with fairly easy access to the tar spot on the tower.
  19. Seen a bunch of accidents in that area around the hairpin there. It's definitely XC types who are likely roadies. Who in their right mind would go all the way to Tokai to ride up a tar road? You'd be better off doing the hill up to the tar road, take a right, go down bridal trail and back up a few times. Maybe the repetition of singletrack would hone some skill in staying on the bike? While accidents are obviously just that, it's a huge waste of our city resources with a heli-vac going at about R16k/h.
  20. Thanks for taking the time to post this excellent reply. I see now that the OP actually was meaning forks.
  21. There's no way to deal with the flu virus other than to ride it out (not literally The after effects of this I find that for me Locobiotal is amazing. Check it out. 4 times a day, every 6 hours. I don't get any infections and normally can kill off a flu in 2 days. Before I used to get sick for 2 weeks.
  22. How long is a piece of string? Why 'could' air have a better rebound? Care to explain your hypothesis? What shock you choose should fit it's purpose. Feel-wise, coil is better. It's far more linear, and ramps up more linearly too. Air shock can also have a high volume can which means it can be run at a lower pressure, which will have a more coil like feel to it. Oil is used in the damping systems, and there are various designs around this. I doubt this is what the OP meant.
  23. You mean Air vs Coil right?
