I was DJing night before, on my feet all day, heavy gear carrying and 4 glasses of coke for the night ... 1 hour sleep and straight to the race , cramped from Kyalami to the end , stopped 4 times to stretch ... 3h23 (fun factor = a gazillion) It was a very sad day for me out there ... but would not miss it for the world

according to the guys pacing in front the taxi totally drifted into our lane cos they were forced off the road on the extreme left , they neutralised the bunch and then continued once Marshall cleared it I hit the deck and went sliding into the carnage, left arm gashed to hell (Had to get stitches and a tetnis shot... and lots of drugs) got up and my front wheel was missing (how the heck?)found it among the carnage . Skew bars, busted shifter and a buggered rear deraileur that was auto changing (lol) ... I then did some serious chasing but the guys were gone, Patch caught up and we stayed together a while ( Rode like a champ on the 29er !!!!) i stopped to help a buddy that punctured , then stopped again to help another buddy with a mechanical.. good guy syndrome sucks around the 90 k mark the deraileur broke and went through the wheel... chucked it in my toolbag and made a single speed, but chain kept snapping ... last 5 kms a good samaritan said he is tired of watching me struggle so pushed me to the end , thank you kind sir finished on 4 hours with a missing chip... lots of drama but hey it makes for good tales of woe great seeing so many of you guys and the shouts hello makes a person's day

So glad to see that I'm not alone suffering the Mavic Wrath ... 50 mm Mavic Carbone Story: have a spoke replaced at lbs (not mentioning names but sounds like Rajees Horizon Jhb). Takes 3 days but hey I pay with a smile .. On the ride I hear a ticking sound from the wheel... turns out that a few spokes are loose . Check nicely : 5 cracks in the rim , spokes pulling through at the nipples .. Back to Lbs to have some words, they keep saying its my fault and I must claim from Insurance... eventually they decide that they will send it to Mavic and it will be sorted out . Many months later , I'm told its out of warranty and that they will replace the Rim. I get a message saying the wheel is ready for collection and my Bill is R3850.00 Lots more words between us and long story short, I go pay (Not smiling but at least I have my wheel back . After riding a few of the spokes are no longer parallel to the others , Twisted at an angle if that makes sense . So Now WHAT ???

The split time was accurate up to the M1 ... or rather according To Firoz it was , I started cramping so my timing is of zero value unfortunately. At least your ride data from this year will be valuble for next year. Just looked at the last 20km segment .. I shaved 15 mins off my time over that segment and I'm still the slowest (tears) .. gutted , but giggling. So more training for sure . Damn you guys put in some good rides Kudo's Again !

Looks like the Force was with Hayley ... I also only took my bike in today .. rest is apparently important. I was having a bad spell last week, 8 punctures in 2 days. Needless to say I rode with lots of tubes and lots of tools. mmmmmm... lots of extra weight but not one mechanical breakdown(aside from the 12 punctures in my legs) . I will take that as a win though
