  1. Cool. I bought the same TorqueCraft one, with all the goodies, and I bought a Black and Decker one from the US, posted here, with customs etc, for $60. If you check on eBay.co.uk you'll find plenty of wire, brass etc brushes. I've bought a couple, say 10 brass for £2, free post to SA. Horse hair brushes, felt brushes etc. I've probably spent £20 and got all that I wanted.
  2. I've been in touch with the HERALD CYCLE TOUR (PE) organisors and they have agreed to incorporate a classic bike section in the tour. The Herald is in early February. It's a weekend of mountain biking, at/in/along Addo National Park on the Saturday and then a road ride around western PE on the Sunday. How many of you would travel to PE to do this ride? If you would consider it, would you send me a PM, so that I can gauge what sort of support this event might attract? How many of you would be prepared to help promote this, through local bike shops. clubs etc? I'm going to try and find some sponsorship and prizes, say for the best restoration, the best period dress, or whatever. All this is still to be decided. Your thoughts and suggestions are welcome.
  3. A dremel with a softish brass brush works wonders on oxidised aluminium. I've cleaned up many, many older parts .... NOT ANODISED, though it works on anodise!d also a bit ... but my Alan's aren't anodised. Great for seat posts, etc etc. Then use the felt wheels to polish. Works wonders on chrome parts too!!
  4. Jees, this is a long thread! I don't buy from hubbers with more than 1000 posts.
  5. Hey Brad Don't take the comments so seriously. We've all been there, paid way too much for a bike we wanted and then realised is was worth less than we paid. Happens in all facets of life, called school fees. I think she's lovely, but just not what I'm interested in. Keep on keeping on, you'll find something that everyone wants.
  6. Very nice find Brad. She's a bit old for me, I prefer my ladies younger!
  7. off topic, but I'd give my left BB for some really fast internet!!
  8. Thanks QB, I know the site, but have never got to that page before. A great resource.
  9. Yes, one of the features I looked at. My Mexico has been repainted, so I can't compare anything other than tube shape, lugs, brake bridge stamp and cable guides along the top tube and 1 water bottle holder. But looks very, very much like mine! If it is a MEXICO, barking lucky find!
  10. Looking at these pics and the earlier ones, looks a helluva lot like a MEXICO. Same tubes and lugs, but why no Mexico decals???? Doesn't look repainted. Flummoxed!
  11. Thanks for the link, one I don't have, but now I do!!
  12. Could be a later, perhaps even early 90s, model ALAN. The seat post lug is different to my Super Record, sort of more 'slimline' / rounded, so maybe it is a later model. Although still has only 1 pair of water bottle lugs and top tube cable guides, which suggests early 80s. Going to need lots more pics, and close ups, to sort it out.
  13. Looks like a Colnago Sport to me. The lower end of the Colnago pyramid, fewer chrome bits and lower end groupos. But still a beauty! To my knowledge all Supers were round section tubes.
  14. could also be one of those peugeot forks. Don't know if you remember the Peugeot ali bikes from the late 80s. Came in and many of them failed, so they sold off hundreds of them at R100 each as I recall, BUT NO WARRANTY!!!! Guys bought them and just riveted the joints. I had 2 of them
  15. They don't look like Alan forks!!! Alan forks were lugged, literally and had ALAN on the crown, or on the side of the crow. Can you post some more pics
  16. Are those steel forks on the Alan??????
  17. I'm not married!
  18. Yup, it's a kirk precision magnesium frame. Have one in my storage, which I'm going to rebuild one day!
  19. Once upon a time, about 35 years ago, there were these!!
  20. Anyone remember these? With any fondness?

  22. Custom Build! http://www.sartocycles.com/en_US/p/1/custom-road-bicycles/4/cima-coppi.html
  23. Hi Broker Good idea to read Eddy's post. Is the Bianchi from Coimbra cycles, George? If it is, they were asking R3k for it, but I don't think it's worth that. It's a low end model, probably Thron or ChroMo tubing, with low end components. That's not to say it won't give you a very nice ride, it almost certainly will. But, IMHO it's probably worth R1.5k as is.
  24. +1 I told Bradley much the same myself, but in far less detail and a lot fewer words. Thanks
  25. Hello All I've been searching and searching the interwebs for some info on the Fantini. But Nada, Anyway, there's a site I've been checking for a few years http://www.equusbicy...bike/index.html run by a Bobby Sapovits. I emailed Bobby in the hope that he might have some info, which he didn't! Anyway, he offered to put it on his blog http://www.equusbicycle.com/blog/ which he has. Hoping to get some info. But reason for the post is that Bobby is a really nice and helpful guy and his site is very useful. Just wanted to let everyone know, maybe someone else needs some help.
