  1. Yeah, a good route might be R62, Worcester, Montagu through to Oudtshoorn, then down to George ... that's 490 km. Certainly less traffic and more challenging. Just the wind, but if you choose the day (!), you can ride all the way with a strong SW up your derrier.
  2. Thanks Tk, I'll send them an email today, lets see if we can chivvy them up a bit!!
  3. For goodness sake. I like this, but it's just too difficult for an older man (I speak for myself only). As I've mentioned before, I'm hoping the Herald Cycle Tour guys will include a VETERANS bike category next year. The organisors (there was a comment on a thread the other day about spelling the 'old way' ORGANISORS, or the new way ' organisers) have a meeting in August to decide. I'll send you and email address, if you can LOBBY I think it might help.
  4. South African made frames are good, just need to get the word out there. We need to add a page to Classic Rendezvous about SA frame builders. Others will pick it up from there. A CHALLENGE. Let's put all our knowledge together and submit to the above, let's add a page on SA frame builders. I added what I know (I know a little more now) a few pages ago. But let's do it.
  5. Yesterday evening only 1 link (3rd one down) was showing a map, this morning 2 links (2nd and 3rd) are giving maps. Of the 2 showing, I think the one via Worcester and Montagu will be the tougher.
  6. Only 1 route showing, CA to CX (Cape Town to Knysna)
  7. Cape Town to Springbok = 550Km R150 to old age home of your choice, whether you m ke it or not.
  8. It's worth a Skype call. Costs you very little and voice to voice, or even better face to face, is priceless.
  9. Don't want to be the police here, but COMPUTOR (one who computes) is not wrong, it's just an obsolete way of spelling computer, like trailer/trailor, and one day calculater, rather than calculator!!!! edit:He's probably oldish and went to school in the 50s.
  10. Live just up the road. Anyone truly interested I'm happy to phone and have a look.
  11. How far do you think you can ride in 24hrs? Find a flat route, say in the Karoo and have a challenge. R25.00 to enter and the person that gets closest to the actual distance (you are kept blind of the bets) wins R10 of each entry (or another donated .. come on ASG) prize and the $ go to old age homes!!! Yey!
  12. You guys are lucky!! Still looking for a nice (cheap) 979. Had one once upon a time, bought from Colorado Cyclist, but sold it to put a roof on my house!!! Have 987 and a 992, but waiting for the 979.
  13. You can use the 7spd shifters with an 8 spd cassette, just set the RD limiting screws to leave out the top or bottom cog. Presto, 7 spd. Otherwise, a spacer on the inside and use 7spd cassette.
  14. Hey Dan It depends. Some of the early hubs had a slightly different key pattern to the later hubs. Hence, the cassettes had a slightly different pattern. But it's not too drastic, I managed to file down an older cassette to fit a newer hub, so maybe you can do it in reverse!!! edit: if Climate is right and you just want to use the 7 speed RD, it'll shift 8 spd too, so it's not serious.
  15. Are you meaning those that run through the jockey wheels?
  16. Sent to me by my son overseas. Arrived Thursday. Two before pics and after about 5 hours of elbow grease. Not as nice as NOS, but I'm pretty happy. Just need to add some bits.
  17. I win, I win. But too far for me to drive for a meal, so give it to the OLD FOLKS ... those older than me, anyway. Bump
  18. I like it when guys know more than me, I keep learning. As far as I know the 'original' C40 (non B Stay) was only a 1 year production too, but I've read that only on one site.
  19. a crazy special hubber!
  20. Edit
  21. PS: check the dropouts.If they're Campagnolo, it's a classy frame.
  22. Battaglin - a small outfit, hand made frames, still even their carbon frames are apparently hand made in Italy. It looks in sweet condition, some of the old steel one finds is really wrecked. So whatever the tubing, it's probably worth restoring, it will only increase in desirability and value. Looks like a late 80s, early 90s model. Have a look under the BB and email Battaglin with some pics enrico.stragliotto@battaglin.it they're pretty helpful. If you decide to get rid of it, I'm sure there's a bunch of guys on the HUB that would jump at it, if realistically priced.
  23. I hate to be the dude in the woodpile here, but I don't think you'll get more than about R8k for the bike, in SA. As to what it's worth, as has been stated countless times, it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I don't think you'll find anyone willing to pay what you think it's worth. IMHO I suspect that the most you'll get will be about R8k. I hope I'm wrong, but that's MHO. By the way LC, it's my understanding that the model before the B Stay, the normal double seat stay model, is worth more as a collector's piece than the B Stay model. I suppose this may be because fewer were manufactured and that it was the original design. But, who knows, part of the vagaries of collecting! Edit: PS she's a beauty, if you can afford to keep her, keep her. If you're determined to sell, maybe explore selling her overseas, something I'm looking at doing in the future.
  24. wish I could help David, but I can't! Don't even know any cyclists in Durbs anymore.
