  1. I can't edit the post above. Was advising you to post your questions on the retro bicycle thread. The guys are free with advice and interest.
  2. There's a retro bicycle thread http://www.thehubsa....bicycle-thread/ collectors, buyers etc visit the thread often, post their projects and sometimes there for sale bikes. That said, do you want to sell the Torelli? If you do, pm me.
  3. Bought this at Eroica Britannia, it was cheap!!! My guess is it's a TT bike, bike I'm not sure. Despite some Google searches, I can't find out much about the Brand. Anyone have any knowledge? Anyone know what brake calliper would fit the front????
  4. Tour de France - South African Impey fails drugs test South African Daryl Impey, who wore the yellow jersey on last year's Tour de France, failed an anti-doping test for the masking agent Probenecid, the Orica-GreenEdge rider said on Wednesday. 23 hours agoReuters . View photo Daryl Impey after stage six win at 2013 Tour de France (AFP) Probenecid is used to mask the use of doping substances, anabolic drugs in particular. Impey was not included in Orica-GreenEdge's nine-man Tour de France team, which came as a surprise when the Australian outfit made their announcement on Tuesday. "Further to the announcement of the Tour de France team and in the interests of full disclosure, I confirm that on 23 June 2014, I was notified by William Newman, the President of Cycling South Africa, about an adverse analytical finding for Probenecid following an in-competition test at the national time trial championships on 6 February 2014," Impey said in a statement. "I had no knowledge of Probenecid nor have I ever taken the substance knowingly in any manner. I am committed to drug-free sport and fully intend to take all steps necessary to clear myself of any suspicion. "The notification came as a complete shock to me just days before the start of the Tour de France, particularly since anti-doping tests conducted on me on 8 and 9 February 2014 yielded no adverse results. "I immediately flew back to South Africa and was present at the analysis of my B sample on 27 June 2014, the results of which confirmed the initial analysis." The Tour de France starts in Leeds, England on Saturday. Last year, all-rounder Impey became the first African rider to wear the yellow jersey on the Tour de France when he led the overall standings during stages 6 and 7.
  5. Would leaving in a panel beater's (spray painters) paint baking room do the trick???
  6. Yeah, I know about this on 'modern' frames, but I don't think mid 80s Alan lugs were heat treated, they're very soft!
  7. Thanks, it's worth a phone call at least.
  8. I had a track Alan repaired in about 1985 and it's still working, though I ride it once a year these days!!!
  9. Do you have a name, address, phone number??
  10. I need some advice please. I have a mid 1980s Alan Record road bike. The BB shell has a hairline crack (running from the outside towards the centre for about 2cm). I'd like to restore the bike, but the crack would need to be repaired. I've cleaned it well, with petrol and then alcohol, so there's no residual oil. I've taken it to a guy that does excellent ali welding, but he's asked me to ask around for advice before he does anything. Any advice, short of chucking it!!!
  11. Not good. Sterkte. Hope healing is quick. Hope, as has been suggested, you have reported this.
  12. I bought a Daccordi about 1987/88, Mannesman 025 tubing, probably equivalent to Columbus SL. Bought it with Athena 7 spd and Synchro shifters, but also came with Shimano 600 Tricolour brake levers!!!!! Didn't strike me as odd at the time (I didn't even think about it), but it does now. Was there something wrong with the Campag levers???? Edit: Still got it and it's lovely.
  13. Leaving for UK on the weekend, I'll pot pics when I come back. Promise,
  14. I've used Jedi Sports before http://jedi-sports.de/Groupsets/Groupsets-Road:::8_48.html Really nice people and you get 19% off if you ship to SA (no VAT).
  15. If you look at all the comparisons on the interwebs (and there are hundreds of them), Chorus is taken as equivalent to Dura Ace. Record and Super Record are the same (Shimano doesn't have an equivalent), other than a few titanium bits and the odd red strip.

The lightest bike we have ever had! This rare and stunning cycle is incredibly light: just 7.4kg. We refurbished it just using the best and lightest components from the 1970s as Nisi rims, NOS Selle Italia Superleggera saddle, NOS Clement tubulars. The frame is a 51cm size by Cicli Camandona (Turin, Italy). Who says steel can't be light??????
  17. Feedback please! I've just restored an early 90s Daccordi with period Mirage groupo (93 as far as I can make out). What I want feedback on is whether I should rather use Shim 600 tricolour? 600 is certainly better equipment than Mirage and the early stuff is just as sexy, but it's not Italian!!!! I can upload pics if it makes any difference.
  18. Well I did. I emailed a very nice query and NADA. I'll email again, but perhaps they are not interested! Edit: A very sexy Daccordi Flippa.

  20. sometime around 1987, Durbs, not canoeing, but swimming!! Hardly fits over 1 leg now.
  21. trawling looking for 50th Anniversary pieces I cam across this shop. Mario has an amazing selection of NOS vintage stuff http://www.defietsenmaker.nl/index.php?action=home&lang=EN
  22. ADVICE ADVICE ADVICE As some of you know, I'm riding Eroica Britannia (all things being equal) in about 4 weeks. Looking at the course profile, about 25% of the ride is on 'white road', I guess this is fine gravel. What size tyres does one use for this??? I'm assuming that 23x622s will be too thin and that maybe 25s are too thin also. Should I be riding on 'hybrid', sort of cross tyres??? I've not done this before, so I don't know. EDIT: Reading Sheldon Brown, maybe I should have a 35 treaded tyre on front and a 25 on the back. Any thoughts?
