  1. You guys are all missing the point of this. Powerbalance is not admitting that the Band does not work, they are admitting that their advertising does not fall in line with the customer protection act. In other words they have no scientific proof that it works, but that does not mean they say it does not work. Their coomments leave room for the fact it does. I am not saying they do or don't work, but that is not what this is about. Powerbalance have yet to say that the bands do not work as clearly there are a lot of people that believe that the bands do work and those are the people who are wearing them. I think the majority of the people complaining here have never used the band. In any case, the band is still to be disproved and if you follow any kind of scientific method, then you will need to disprove that it has no effect as with so many people saying that it does work and makes a difference from their personal experience, it will need to be disproved and that will be difficult as it could just be that we do not understand why it does work. It is like the proof that showed that a bumble-bee cannot fly. The truth is that no matter what the formulas say, the bumble-bee does fly. So, the guys need to rethink why their formulas are incorrect. Maybe we just don't understand why a small magnet emmiting a timing magnetic field could make changes in our body. Like why sticking needles in or body (acunture) helps us.
  2. Burry may no be that big but he has the power to ride a 29er. He may change his mind if his power was halved.
  3. No, I was riding fulltime. No wife, no job. Just riding and enjoying American food!
  4. Hi Gawie Great to see someone trying to make cycling more affordable. I think what the guys are looking for are the real test results you would have conducted as per international specs and norms, such as impact tests for front fork, torsional and lateral fatigue tests, etc. This would have been done during the development stage and will help your product greatly if you let everyone know that these tests where done and passed international standards. They will speak for themselves. I think the guys are worried that if these tests have not been done then they are unsure about the quality and design.
  5. You will build fitness the fastest by riding at 50-60% heart rate as this is the zone in which your mitochndria (energy converting sub-cellular organism) are produced. If you do 75% of yor riding in this zne with 25% hard to get used to race pace then that would be a pretty good crash course if your time is limited. Just getting on a wacking it will not produce as good results as your base fitness will still be limited.
  6. Small trick to make a big improvement and will help your mind understand an efficient pedal stroke. Ride in a heavy gear and keep you head still with no up/down or side to side movement. When you pedal stroke is balanced you should not move much. Then use very light gears and try and spin fast. You will notice that when your stroke is poor you will bounce, but when you smoothen your stroke out the bouncing will stop. Both of these are best done on a spinning bike if you can. Once you practice these you will have a better understanding of what you need to do.
  7. Is your aim to be fitter or lighter?
  8. Had just passed 20k in September when I had a crash in the US and that is when it all stopped.
  9. :) Like your seat!
  10. I am not sure if the following is urban legend, but a bud of mine told me that Pronutro was introduced to Aus a few years back and it was so popular that competitors tried to find a way to reduce the market share it had taken away from them. So they conducted tests and to their surprise it was so good they had to find another way. Now in Aus they apparently have a standard whereby Supplements have to be shelved in a separate section for legal and health reasons. So what the competitors did was complain that Pronutro actually fell in the class of a supplement it was so good. Hence Pronutro was moved to the supplement section and sales dropped somewhat. Interesting if it is true. By the way, has anyone tried the new Future Life with Moducare? Really good stuff and it has 20.5% protein (19 aminno acids), 13 vitamins and 11 minerals not to mention the immune boostin gModucare. It also has Omega 3 and 6 and has a GI of only 55 (low). Choc tastes pretty good.
  11. Dry them out as soon as you can. Stay away from creams and ointments, they just leave them soft and what you want is for the skin to grow back tougher. Once they have dried out and healed up without any other treatment you should be good to go with a tougher butt.
  12. Move to Stellenbosch! The wind never blows here and if you pick your route correctly you can get an almost windless ride in anyday.
  13. I disagree with this. You will burn off your muscle glycogen in that hour and will simply replace it when you eat again. So you may use a load of energy, but almost none of this will be fat which leads to actual weight loss. Got read up on your metabolic zones and where fats and carbs are metabolized. Fat cannot be matebolised quickly enough and the body is forced to use muscle glycogen during hard exercise.
  14. Johan you get me wrong. Riding in the "hard" zone is only sustainable for "shorter" periods of time. You cannot ride in your high glycogen burning zone for more than 60-90minutes before you likely to bonk or fatigue. Riding in your lower heart rate fat burning zone allows you to ride for longer and thus burn more fat and loose more weight. Riding in the fat burning zone also has additional benefits to weight loss as it is at these lower intensities (using classed as base zone) that you increase the number of mitochondria in your cells. It is these cells that actually are responsible for transforming molecules into energy and other molecules. The more of these you have the fitter you become and the longer you can go and also has to do with your metabolism increasing. The point in question here is not calorie consumption, it is fat loss if I understand it. If she simply rides hard all the time she will burn glycogen or whatever is in her stomach. After the ride she will simply refuel that. Burnt lots of calories, but no fat loss. If she rides in the fat burning zone, then she targets the fat and thus looses the weight. So no, it is not fallacy. There is sufficient literature that backs this up from countless studies done for decades.
  15. I am not saying that the detox pills are a bad thing. I used them, but I also used them during extreme dieting. I think detox has its place and also certain side effects that go along with it. Stripping your body of glycogen is not one of them. It's main effects is to help your endocrine system (kidney's and such) work more efficiently and also to help toxins get out of your system. You will notice that you normally need to drink a lot of water when you use those pills and that is what really helps. You basically flush all the bad stuff out. So no, I do not believe your theory is correct. Glycogen is only stripped when you do not replace it by eating. So quick fix. You need to eat some nice carbo hydrates for a day or two and get plenty of fluids in. Once you are feeling stronger (also aided by carbs as carbs give you a feeling of strength when you eat them and a feeling of weakness when you don't eat them). Once you are feeling better start riding again but have a bit to eat before the ride and eat whilst you ride. Take in energy drinks too. Like I say though, slowly drop your food intake until you loose weight as above. If you would still like to detox then pic them up again after a few weeks of consistent training as I do not believe they can harm you. Personal opinion is, if you eat lots of fuit and vegetables and drink lots of water and exercise regularly you should not need detox really. Personal opinion. Now go and buy yourself a nice Hawaiin pizza and have a big glass of coke to wash it down and you will feel like a new woman. My trick! Good luck!
  16. Hi Mads You need to understand one things very clearly. And my photo is just a joke by the way, I spent the last year cycling fulltime in the USA so have learnt the hard way over many years of sport. That one thing is this: When you exercise you exercise and need fuel to exercise otherwise your body will try and shut itself down and will go into what is called survival mode whereby it slows all your systems down including your metabolism because it is unsure when it will get food again. So here is my opinion on what you did wrong on that morning. You had a cup of coffee and took only water on the ride. The reason you got bad sweating was a version of the bonk and hence you lost all your power and probably had to limp on home. You need to eat when you exercise even when you are trying to loose weight. Actually, the weight loss will come with slow cycling when you heart rate is between 50-60% as this is known as your fat burning zone. When you exercise up at 70-80% you are in your carbohydrate burning zone as fat cannot be pulled fast enough fromm your body and hence only carbs (glycogen) are used. To loose weight you need to ride slower, but to stay on the bike still need a certain amount of food to go into your system or else you will bonk most often than not. The trick to loosing weight is to do it consistantly by reducing your calorie intake when you are not exercising. I.e. after you have ridenn you get a recovery meal and then rather eat less for suppper and cut out the snack. The detox pills whilst filled with nice detox substances like dandilion and exotic roots that will help you get rid of excess water by helping your kidneys function better are not going to help you loose weight on their own and can leave you feeling less wanting to exercise cause they have other side effects such as headaches and lethargy. Been there done that. My advice is simple. And it really is as simple as this as weight loss is an energy balance. Take what you would normally eat and reduce it a tiny amount. Say 5%. If you start to loose weight with normal exercise then great. If not, take another 5% away, until you are loosing between 500g and 1000g a week. If you are already skinny say 200-500g a week. This way you keep strong for exercise and loose weight. You also keep all the good nutrients in your diet which are often taken away during dieting. You also keep eating foods you enjoy just in smaller quantities. This way you will make it easy to sustain your diet and loose weight at a healthy rate in a healthy way. When you reach your goal weight slowly start to add back until you reach an equilibrium. It will take some trial and error, but this way you will get to know your body well without taking a beating by going extreme, bonking, getting ill, being off the bike for some timme and then putting on more weight in the process. Also remember that if you have only recently started exercising you will naturally put on a kg or 2 and this is purely because you muscles are adpating and will become a bit denser. The weight will start to come off again after a few weeks and then you will see good results. Trust me this when I say there is no quick way to weight loss when you want to keep it off and in a healthy way. Good luck and remember, consistency is the key to many things in life.
  17. It really depends on the detox program. Your body will only bonk when your glycogen (energy stored in muscles and liver) stores get depleted and there is no more energy coming from your fuel tank (stomach). So I think it is still possible to detox and allow for adequate nutrition to exercise. Detox is really just eating and drinking foods without toxins and those that actually help rid the body of toxins. So choose foods that do this and still allow you to get enough energy in to exercise. What have you been eating during this week?
  18. Market is way down at the moment so you could pick up a fair bike pre-owned for about 6k. If it is for training only then I would suggest finding something with a nice frame or groupset and then using it to upgrade later if the road bug bites. Use egg beaters for now. If you can handle them on an MTB no reason to change on the road as it will just mean either a 2nd set of shoes or wearing you bolt holes out on your current shoes. And dont worry bout what people have to say about using your MTB shoes on the road. Where are you based? Maybe someone knows some good pre-owned stores or a bud who is selling a bike. Jan/Feb are great times to buy when no one has bucks.
  19. What??? You kidding right? Now I know why I can't get my bike to 6.8kg. My chain weighs that much!
  20. Be patient and let it heal properly just like the good old PhD recommenends. You fall with that before it heals and a screw or two rip out or crack somewhere else you just complicate things. Be patient. You will be back and fit in no time.
  21. Ja, me and my friend Clyde Dale. Imagine the guy in the Polo's face if I rolled up to his window and asked him to please step out of the car.
  22. I got my butt whipped at school and at home and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. There is one thing than no one can deny. Since corporal punishment and army went out the window, youngsters are much more ill disciplined. Unfortunately there are a ot of parents out there who do not love their kids enough to discipline them properly.
  23. Sorry, I guess all things are relative. Here is a pic of me. They don't call me The_Break for nothing. You may wonder why I never threaten people on the HUB. It is because I am a man of my word.
  24. A well aimed Green Helmeted Spartan Headbutt will work well for a small guy.
  25. Pepper spray works well and he can't chase you afterward. Just make sure you not wearing club clothing.
