  1. You joking there right?
  2. Pity it has to be new. If you could buy pre-owned I would suggest a Cervelo Soloist Team or Cervelo S1. I just sold one for R12500 with some nice kit on so I am sure you could pick up one for 10k. The advantage over a 10k new bike is that it will be more aero, have better (even though older) components and it will most probably fit her better as Cervelo's fit is one that generally fits all shapes and sizes as can be read on there website. If it was me I would go this way. Well actually. I did go this way 5 times already.
  3. That is a tough one. When I smack my kid for being rude and insulting other kids I don't apologies. He is angry for a while, but then life carries on.
  4. Not a line like that, we where all doing over 100km/h.
  5. One more story that really had a big impact on me at the time. Driving along the N2 at abouut 130km/h and needing to move into the left lane to take an off ramp. Long line of cars to my left so I accelerate to try and find a gap. Eventually I see a gap and put on my indicator to move in, the guy behind me to my left accelerates and closes the gap until I am forced to sort wait for him to pass and then push into the gap behind him. So I pull up to him in the 2 lanes that are on the off ramp and ask him why he had to do that. He swears and me and tells me to pluck off and I am the type of guy who pisses people off. He drives forward and abouut a minute later I am next to him again. He winds his window down again and say, "listen man, I am sorry, I was wrong, I should have just let you in. Sorry! I was wrong." Now that is something that I really respect. Someone who is able to say they are wrong and sorry, even after they have gone off the hook. Made me rethink things.
  6. That is true. I for instance am a prime example. I on the very odd occasion take calls on my cell and make "urgent" smss in the car, but when someone else does it I ride right up their ass and hoot and come past them about an inch from their mirror. Then I drive down the road and once my temper subsides I wonder why in the world did I just do that. So yeah, I guess many of us are very self justified. Another example, I pull up next to this woman with a small child standing between the front seats. I look at her and indicate she should put a seatbelt on her kid and make her sit down. SHe ignores me. I hoot and her and tell her again. She tells me to fluff off and flips me a big bird. Now that is pride to its extreme. She would rather tell me to fluff off than swallow her pride and realize her child could be dead around the next bend.
  7. A flat nose or a flat hand?
  8. Maybe this hi-jack could teach us something about the guy in the Polo. TheG. You mentioned this guy caused trouble and then stopped and still wanted to pick a fight and felt totally self justified. Don't you think this is a sickness that is becoming more and more prevalent in SA. We get miffed because others irritate us and then we try and take them out and when we do wrong in doing that we get an attitude of stuff you. I don't see this kind of thing in the 1st world nearly as much as I do in SA, but I cannot put my finger on it as to why we have become like that as a nation. Is it that we are so full of pride that we cannot accept being wrong?
  9. I was asking myself the same question.
  10. Although it was a risk, I am glad he stood up to the thugs. What is poor though is that they were let out so quickly. Were they let out on bail? Are they still to appear in court? There must be more to this as I do not believe the cops are able to simply let them out. There are procedures to follow.
  11. Sounds bad and long term enough that I would take the stuff if it was the only effective one known and I knew I was out for the next season or so. I do not mean it is ok to take banned substances, but I do believe that if you are worried about being tested and also need to take care of your health as a first priority, that there is a doping regulation that covers such cases whereby you are able to get permission to take the stuff from CSA so long as there is a clear case here. The details I am not entirely up to date with, but I do remember reading something along these lines in the doping regulations.
  12. Think SRM beat you to that idea over a decade ago.
  13. Kamanassie Bergpook and Hermanus Whale Festival. That is a very, very, long way for a young kid who has a tiny glycogen supply. I will speak to some guys as in my opinion some of these times are far to long for such a young guy and you may be doing some damage, BUT I would rather you hear what some experts have to say. Just emailed someone who can give you some good advice in Canada. Will wait for a reply and send you some info via PM. He is Olympic level so knows his stuff.
  14. I think there are long enough climbs and flat road stretches where it can be used effectively, but personally I would only use it during training. On an MTB I would rather be watching the terrain than looking down at my console the whole time. Either way, I guess it has its uses for all situations in Road and MTB.
  15. I do it often. It is very safe to do so, but certain sections of road are narrow with little yellow line as states. Only place I have ever had issues is the little narrow bridge about 5km from Gordon's bay. There is not enough space for a bike and car so make sure you got a safe ride through there. Otherwise never had issues with people as the road is too busy. One of the most beautiful rides in the worlds!!!!!!!!
  16. Isn't speedplay a problem when you get into mud much more-so than most other MTB pedals? And then won't they wear out so much quicker so that you will have to replace your PM more often than is affordable? How do you find walking/running in speedplay during portages?
  17. Powertap will be the cheapest and easiest to use. Other Powermeters whilst good are expensive. I would not recommend power meters that estimate power using calculations and estimations such as polar, I would only recommend using a power meter that calculates actual power from a strain gauge be it in the hub, pedal or crank. The reason you use PM is for accuracy as compared to heart rate. Using a poor calculated power is going back to that poor accuracy of actual effort. I don't think the Speedplay pedal PM would be good for MTB in any case.
  18. It has a lot to do with marketing and trying to place your product in the right market segment for your strategy. It works this way in many industries, however what IS strange is that RRP is not always consistant from country to country even if you take logistical costs and volumes into account.
  19. Hi Persian Firstly it is great that your son has such a passion and a drive for cycling and that it comes totally out of his own. The people who you have chatted to who advise not to push him are correct, however there is more you will need to consider and it is a very difficult thing to do. The Australians are the leaders in what is called Long Term Athlete Development and Youth Development. I did a coaching course last year in which we touched on the subject, but what did come through was that whilst it is all important not to push youngsters, it is also all important not to let them push themselves too hard. If youngsters are doing too high distances when they are young it has effects on there sporting abilities when they are older. More is not always better and it should be a combination of protecting your son from being pushed by others and himself. I can put you into contact with someone who knows a lot on this subject as he has been very involved with the Australian and Canadian coaching curriculum. He will be able to guide you at least on where to get some more information which will come in very handy. I believe that this will be a big key as to how far your son is able to develop his talent into the future and it is going to be very important for you as a family to understand the principles behind LTAD and YD as well.
  20. Problem is when I tried the power balance band it made things worse for my body. So if I try the band on my PC then I expect I will end up in Tasmania's time zone or somewhere in Bermuda. Actually, Bermuda could be pretty cool. Which colour should I use you think for best results?
  21. What was the reason for the initial crack? Who can offer to do the repair for you? Do they offer a guarantee?
  22. What is Coxsachie and what are its symptoms?
  23. Is it just me or is the HUB's server timing behind by about 8 minutes?
  24. Hi Vanniri It is not the number of posts that guys are getting hacked off about, rather it is the intention of the post. Even in this thread with no swearing some of the comments are still provoking and the provocation is where the problem comes in. It is this provocasion that has caused the tensions the past few weeks. I myself admit to causing a lot of tension here purposefully, because I am not the kind of person who sits by and lets others try and dominate forums by being rude, verally bullying others and ganging up on people. That is actually the role of Admin and it took them a long time to do something about it, too long. At the end of the day though it has been made very clear to all involved. Either clean up your act or you will be asked to leave. I trust they are serious about this and I welcome this should we all continue. I think the point of this whole thread is to see what people are willing to tolerate and it is an opportunity for others to speak up and say it like it is. Else there will be little change other than good intentions from Admin.
  25. Never said I was making any decisions, but it is attitude at the end of the day. We got our asses whipped for this so it is clear we need to change our attitude with which we talk to people here on the HUB.
