  1. Well, where did I bash someones equipment? If you read the entire thread you may see a different side.
  2. Hold on a second. Please tell me where I bashed someones bike in this thread????? With a quotation.
  3. Chop! It is for intertainment not an attempt at anything.
  4. Why it is important to design a bike properly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLRDRzMWIsg&feature=related
  5. Ok we need to distinguish here, great bike or top brand?
  6. I agree that SA events are well organized and have a nice range of activities surrounding them. I have raced in EU and the USA on a fulltime basis, but honestly spoken find the way EU and USA organize their racing to be much better than in SA and I believe it to be due to different approaches. SA sport seems more geared toward making money from the large amounts of people whoi attend the event more on a social or enjoyment basis. With EU and USA I find it to be more based on a competitive basis with fewer numbers. The structures inracing is also more advanved than what we have here in that almost every race is based on a Category system from CAT Pro to CAT 1 - 5 in the USA with a similar CAT Pro, A-E in EU. This allows much more competitive racing in organized categories based on strength and experience. You will never get a beginner mixed in with the Pro/1/A like in SA. So whilst we have a great sport in SA that caters for the masses, there is a lot we dont have when it comes to pure competition. For instance, we hardly ever have the situation whereby weaker riders have the opportunity to really race for position as is the case overseas. Similar with junior categories and kids races. Here it is only the bigger races where we may have that, but mostly it is a mass start. I like what PPA is doing in the Cape with their A-Z bunch seeding system. I believe they will lead the way in cycing development in SA if given the right chance.
  7. That bike would not beat my neices tricycle. It needs some pedals first!
  8. If you figure out my name you can google it. Palo...
  9. BUMP
  10. I really dont want to go into detail, but the summary of this is that I noticed a marked difference between bikes with only factor being different in the frame. Especially during high power sprints and intervals. This is a huge and long debate as to exactly why one would see this difference, but unless one has a detailed understanding of engineering and structural design it would not be more than another discussion that would end with no real outcome for everyone. All I meant was I tested it and saw results that made me happy I had upgraded to a frame that gave me better results especially in the all to crucial stages of a race.
  11. There is one thing we must all bear in mind and this is best decribed by a conversation I had with a LBS owner a few years back: LBS Owner, "This is such a good bike at a great price; in fact, did you know it is made in the same factory as the Giant TCR Advanced wth ISP? That has got to tell you it is good right?" My response, " Really, wow, did you know that Citi Golfs are made in the same factory as the Golf 5 GTI which putsout 147kW." A product is not good or bad based on where or by whom it is made. It is good or bad based on the design, testing, manufacturing, actual materials used and most of all the quality control.
  12. Cervelo S2, Cervelo P3C, just sold my Cervelo Soloist Team and had a Cervelo Soloist Carbon. Prior to that I had a Raleigh RC9000, Schwin Fastback x2 and a Cannondale CAD 6. Oh, by the way, sorry about the rude chirps earlier. Was in a crap mood. No excuse, so, sorry!
  13. It is acceptable, however only for cleaning a single bike. If you have a team then you would need to apply the following method adapted for bikes. I will try and put a team together to do some testing next weekend to see if it is possible to carry this method over from the vehicle industry to that of the bicycle. Is anyone interested to help me conduct the testing? I will supply the crew, I need a project manager, an engineer and a technician.
  14. On a serious note, is this the same frame that was cracking? http://www.raleigh.co.za/blogs.php?blogId=12&authorId=2 Maybe if you lucky you can get an upgrade.
  15. Big H, in Nigeria a Raleigh would be considered a Top Brand!
  16. I forgot how much fun this used to be. Pot Hole, you just opened up a can of worms yo know.
  17. I still would not buy another Raleigh. Ones you have seen the light there is no going back. Glad I have the Powertap test data from back to back testing to prove it.
  18. I prefer putting the spray in my back pocket. Normally when someone takes youu off your bike or orders you off the bike the spray is out of reach. At least with it in youur pocket it stays with you and you have a chance to get it out, even if the guy wields a knife and you tell him he canhave your money as youu reach for it. Not much you can do with a gun. But here is an interesting alternative just for life in general. Take up Aikido or another Martial Art that is focused on defending against and disarming armed assailants. Takes a good few years to get anywhere, but it is a life skill that could save yor life one day.
  19. What the guys here are saying is of no use to you and in some cases just incorrect. You cannot simply take one or two things from the threads here and hope your cycling is suddenyl going to get better. You need a well structured training program based on sound principals. Whether you do that with a coach or not you cannto simply just say do this or that once or twice a week. There is so much more to it, like resting, perdiodization, gym-work, plyometrics, LTAD, bike set-up, etc, etc, etc. Like I said before, if you are serious about being serious then you need a well structured program from either a free or paid coach. For the record, interval training on the flats is better power training than on a hill if you want to increase power. If you are working on power based training keeping a high power is more difficult on the flats than on the hills and also works different muscle groups and gets the heart rate and perceived effort watt for watt way up.
  20. Sold in dollars. My team mates used to just put their bikes in the back of there picup with no locks. I asked them what would happen if someone stole it. They said that their vehicle insurance covers it even unlocked like that. And that was what I appreciated most about my season in the USA. Go for a 4 hour ride and come back to their vehicles and there TT bikes where still there. But for our market. NO!
  21. Yeah, maybe a wierd cycing version of Ninja Warrior.
  22. You all got it wrong! This is Indias version of a wind farm. It is there local version of Eskom called Trapcom!
  23. I see a little sub heading sating "Riding Pro." If this is your goal and you are still young then there are a few things I can suggest (strongly) 1. Get yourself the best coach you can. Find a way even if it means getting an extra job on weekends to pay for it. Whatever you need to sacrifice do it. 2. Start working on a plan to get over to Europe or the USA for a few season even if it is on some kind of exchange program or working holiday, etc. SA in my opinion is a waste of time if you are not a very very gifted rider. The opportunities and money are overseas. That is where you will either make it or not. Riding in SA alone will not prepare you enough for overseas, your first year wil be a big shock so pan for 2 or 3. 3. You need to start researching Long Term Athlete Development. Stay away from coaches who promise quick results and dont know much about LTAD. This will be a big key to you making it or not. With limited time trying to make it and especially with the costs involved you will want to get it right first time. Quick results are nice for the season, but will limit how far you will eventually progress as an athlete. 4. Race your heart out as you go and learn as much as possible and dont be a pack sitter unless you are a really good sprinter and that is your thing. You will only be able to make an impression overseas if you get noticed. And to get noticed you must get out of the pack. 5. Spend time working on your mental fitness. To attain your full potential you will need to align all aspects of your life including your mind. Without a strong, focused and confident mind you will struggle not only with your cycling, but with all the other challenges that you will come across along your journey. It is a hard road for most, but make it or not, it is a journey that will change your life like it did mine these past few years. Good luck man!
  24. I didnt think selling testosterone was legal on the hub?
