  1. So so sad....lost for words...
  2. With the boot open....maybe not drafting , but rather pomping some lekker tunes for the wife....outdoor spinning!
  3. I'll maybe save this pic for my daughter just before she has any ideas.....but I'll agree some nice ink pics on this thread
  4. Best advice: start with four wheels....
  5. I agreed 100%, rather just get a decent hard tail for R4000-R5000 and get into the whole cycling thing before splashing out loads of money and regretting it within a couple of months. 26, 29 who cares, just go out and ride. If I knew then what I knew know, I would have made much better choices when I bought my first bike. A new dual suspension bike for R12k sounds suspect to be honest. I bought my first bike at sportsmans warehouse about 5/6 years ago and I have probably spend triple the amount upgrading the bike with new components to the point where nothing is left of my original bike at a massive cost, everything as a result of an impulsive decision without any knowledge. Welcome to the Hub and many happy Km's
  6. Senokot tablets, definitely made my bowel movement faster
  7. I was one of those plebs starting from the back and have been for a couple of years. Every year I try to improve my time to get a better seeding for the next year....I do not yell or scream at the slower riders when trying to pass them on the right, but at times it can be so frustarting when it is a double lane road with no way to pass...coming down past the Zoo I almost nicked a lady riding on the right doing 20km/h and sitting on her brakes. My point is that at times I can fully understand the frustration of some of the riders trying to pass by. On a lighter note, that Violin lady should be a permanent fixture on the race, she just made that boring piece of road towards the N14 a pleasure!!!! Music was not to shabby either... Thumbs up for one of the better 94.7 races in recent times!
  8. maybe it is just the time of the year????
  9. I will second that!
  10. Does anyone have a map of the 60km route in suikerbos? please Last time we went riding in suikerbos, we got completely lost and ended up at the Protea Hotel, everyone cramping and no water/drinks left...we had to organise a lift with one of the Protea staff bakkies (at a cost) back to our cars...what a day...how embarassing If anyone ever tells you JHB is flat...give Suikerbos a try! It was great when it lasted
  11. The best looking saddle is not necessarily the most comfortable...
  12. The instructor that pretends to turn up his resistance to level 8, although it is fairly obvious he/she is free wheeling... When the spinning class changes from a workout to theraphy session, for example: 1-Imagine yourself taking off and just fly... 2-Today is the first day in the rest of your life...
  13. Spinning on Zorba the Greek....
  14. Impossible, but worth the pain! The hardest is to keep your pose with all of those mirrors around and pretend you did not notice anything out of the ordinary....Funny that those are exactly the classes always packed with old toppies I have never seen before..
  15. The instructor changes his shirt in the middle of the class... They turn down the lights during the class... The instructor has a pear of speedo lycra shorts...the one's you buy at Edgards...
  16. I am sure many of you have been in the following situation: You walk into the spinning class after the winter break to get the wheels turning again, when suddenly you notice the instructor is/has.... 1-spinning with tekkies... 2-searching for his backstreet boys cd 3-wears a bright woolly sweatband... 4-has a seat height that can only be described as..wtf 5-instructing a 90 cadence and a 100% resistance on Enya... please feel free to add....
  17. Hi Saffa_G, I have one of those Trojan spinning bikes from Makro. Have used it for approx one year and IMO does a decent job. I do not always have time to do a gym spinning class and there is always an issue with booking a bike or something wrong with the gym's bikes not too mention the quality and music choice of some of our gym's instructors. Can be an effort to get on to the bike on some days, but once the Ipod gets going, all that is forgotten. They go for approx R1800 and I have seen some advertised in the junkmail. Hope it helps.
  18. Good day, as can be seen by my nr of posts and joining date, I am also very new here. Nine times out of ten, I leave this forum with some great advice, hilarious comebacks and some great pics of the female specimen. Instead of spending 10 minutes a day on News 24 and all the negative journalism, I choose to spend that ten minutes on Thehub instead. Below is one of the funniest posts regarding a compact vs traditional crank posted by Eldron a while ago: "The problem exists? Really? Lets set the scene - you have a "traditional" set up 53/39 on the front and 11-25 on the back. Winter has not been kind to you and you have piled on the pounds. Your boyfriend says he doesn't like the spare tube around your waist and that you will embarrass him on the beach this summer. You start riding - it hurts and someone has made all the hills in your area steeper. You decide to take the pansy option and buy a compact. R2,200 late you have an ultegra 50/34 on the front and a new poofter gear of 34x25 (a ratio of 1.36). Your boyfriend thinks you're having an affair instead of riding and decides to join you (because you're not losing weight - scoffijng chocolate croissants at Fournos instead of putting in the hard yards). He is also unfit and decides to take the softer option. Unfortunately his hairdressing business is not doing well so he opts for the cheaper 11-28 cassette option (R650 for ulterga). His poofter gear is a 39x28 (ratio of 1.39). Can we call the ratios the same and avoid a hangbag **** fit? You point and laugh at his cassette and use the term "gaping hole". He makes some disgustung joke about gapping holes and you both laugh... Then you ask the LBS to take your cassettes off (you don't want to get oil under your finger nails - EEEUUUWWWW) and lay them side by side - they look like this: 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-21-23-25 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-21-24-28 "What? No gaping holes?" your boyfriend cries! "Emille" you purr "There are two gears that are 1 tooth different!!!!" "Shnoogly woogles" he relpies "my good friend Theodore rides those beastly mountain bikes and his 9spd XT cassette looks like this:" 11-13-15-17-20-23-26-30-34 "See honey - there are 3 AND 4 tooth gaps all over and he never complains about not being able to fill the gaps in". Here endeth the Mills and Boons logic lesson."
  19. Nothing new here...next time someone is going to quit because of excessive gas...
  20. Thanks for the info
  21. These days there are so many supplements and energy drinks out there, I still like powerade, although I know it is surely not the best in terms of sugar content and carbs and popping a goo during a race can't be great either. I heard of some cyclists using GI32,Cytomax,Epicpro etc... I am sure this topic has been discussed before, but I would really appreciate some advice from fellow cyclist, than some oversize gym goon in the Dischem isle. lastly I have been struggling with headaches after a 2 hour+ ride, and I am sure that the energy drinks has something to do with it, any suggestions? Your comments are appreciated
