  1. The SS bike getting an upgrade or downgrade not sure (going from manitou R7 mrd fork to ridgid) although the results of the new fork seem to be going well. Had a blast with rouxtjie yesterday
  2. Ha ha i think nearly all of us got caught by the camera but i think yours may win
  3. Awesome event. Have not had that much fun for a while. One of the main reasons was the limited number of people in the field. Looks like everyone enjoyed it. Yip walked up that little log hill. To be honest I was kind of day dreaming enjoyng the forest single track which was so different to the rest of the race then BAM I see a turning to the right, just hopped off straight away and ran up. Yip got the photo to prove i never made it up on the bike
  4. Think you should stop trying to lighten your bike up by rimming your grips off during the race :-)
  5. Where there is smoke there is fire....... Spill the chinese beans tell us what your buying :-)
  6. Oh news paper under the shirt to keep the chest warm
  7. Damn in 2004 i had an old gary fisher bike, normal cycling shirt, thin arm warmers (none of this fluffy stuff) long lycra trousers and a pot helmet from game. Oh and home made lights with a battery from a motorbike in the back pack. Seems i need to upgrade my kit a little for 2013 :-)
  8. Ja i tell you the points have been climbing everyday as each day one if the flowers i bought opens. Best money I have spent in a while. Going to start with Q20 and move through the list and end with a blow torch if i have to. At least if i mess up then i go down in a ball of flames.
  9. I have been doing that. Now i can rob a bike shop as there is no fingerprints left on my fingers :-)
  10. Eish have you seen her cooking. Like shw says Her sister is a head chef at some fancy 5 star resort and took all the cooking genes and what was left her brother took...... Cycling is safer for her Thanx for the replies. Got Q20, thinners at home. Will try over the weekend. Wonder if parafene would not be better than thinners.
  11. Whats the best and quickest way to get slime and dirt off the rim? GF got a puncture at the monster and got slime everywhere when putting a tube in the. Finished the ride and it collected a lot of dirt. So far i have gotten most of it off with just rubbing it with a cloth but it is a lot of work. Anyone got a quicker solution?
  12. And it's one extra beer for every week it's not paid back. Hey exchange rate is high at the moment :-)
  13. Uuuum could be smaller. When he showed us the footage there was an awe full lot of fast forward going down
  14. Unless soaked in Q20 for 3 days
  15. To be honest as well in SA we are slowly getting forced this direction my bike importers. Just look at the 26er vs 29er stocks of bikes, tires etc. I laughed at the GF the other day we walked into a shop and she was looking at tires. She likes to try loads of different types of tires but the range for 26er was extremely small. The one tire she did love they no longer bring to the country in 26 format. But yes the pro's will win on anything. I once learnt not to follow them when i rushed out and bought the same tires. My dad did the same. First race we both fell 3 times on easy sections. They just had no grip on the loose gravel. Needless to say it was the last time I acted like a sheep and bought what the pro's had......
  16. Man love it, went from baggies/lycra to almost a 26er vs 29er debate ha ha People should ride what they wany how they want etc. I wear Lycra cause I think it suits the long distance riding I do, plus I don't really like the flapping sound of my wind breaker jacket I wear in winter. Lycra works for me (on a bike, at home it's baggies or nothing ) Would I buy what the pro's have, yes at least in clothing, cause normally it is the best quality stuff. Go buy a cheap pair of shorts vs an expensive pair (within reason on expensive) and after 1 year see which pair is still ok. As for bikes, I bought mine because I saw it 2 years ago and wanted it on looks. As anyone how upset I was to find out that frame was a 29er only. Needless to say I always wanted that frame. Timing was right and I moved to oh my gosh should I say it.... 29er. Loving the frame and yes on the 2 rides I have done it has been faster than my previous top end 26er HT (new one is also HT). Is it more fun, so far no. I could flick my 26er around a lot more, but i am sure with time I will with the new bike (slow learner). Oh the other bike is a SS 26er I built from loads of parts, painted it myself and love riding it from a huge fun factor..... Do I care what it looks like. NO I just love riding. Thats what it should be about just riding. What I am saying is the thread should actually be asking which type person are you. The ones that buy and wear stuff because you want it and fits what you ride/do and works best or are you the sheep type that just follows everyone or finally are you just the guy with too much money that just goes into the shop and buys what the Pro's have cause you can...........
  17. Don't worry after 1 month of riding the cleats on those shoes will start to wear, and after 3 months your feet will be falling out....... Nice pedals but the life span on the cleats are useless. I have gone through may different types, SPD various makes, Look Quartz, egg beaters, candy's and guess what, in my days of hating anything shimano I bought XT SPD pedals. Never looked back. I would consider changing to them. At least you can adjust the tension.
  18. The way the Rand/Dollar is going best we get some vaseline, so when we buy new bike parts and have to bend over and take it hard, vaseline may help. Other than that get proper grease for the bike
  19. I think what he meant was let me cut out the parts where i walked and had cramps :-)
  20. Yeah just moved from a 26inch HT to the highball carbon. Awesome bike. So far it has recorded faster times in a lot of single track than my previous bike. Just feels comfortable and natural straight out the box. Have not adjusted anything on it from the first ride which is unusual... Can't go wrong with them i reckon
  21. Damn feel like riding again. Watching gopro with typhoon and rouxtjie One thing i noticed from typhoon's gopro was his shadows tells a lot like how many times he walked ha ha
  22. When AM designed the wheels they thought of rider weight not an additional 6pack of beers and kagasouras steak. Hope the new hoops last longer :-)
  23. I got about 1620m
  24. Well that beer would be warm anyway. You need to get that garage fridge working again
  25. Nice. Lucky you were not with cyclesure you would wait a week or 2 at least
