  1. Yeah we quickly got new terms and conditions after that kid died. Ask rouxtjie about him doing one of his own segments. I think he crashed in the first 20m of it ha ha
  2. I have contacted Strava on this a few times and they have shown me the logged ticket where they will be adding in a better more accurate function. Hate the current one because when you see people have taken the easier route you are almost forced to do that in order to get a time. We created one called the Big U at VG, but then one day we didn't do the full one into the rocky section on the hill but rode along the edge of the field and it gave us better times so we investigated and turns out we were the only ones that were setting times on the longer harder route (the original). Anyway we sorted that out by klapping the shorter route. Bit sad though.
  3. Is this bike not a true 650b? 29 + 26 \ 2 = 27.5. Rolls like a 29er (only on the front though) accelarates like a 26inch (only at the back) so the middle must feel like a 27.5 Trek 69er man those are one funny looking bikes. Thats my sister doing the SS thing at 94.7..... Confused lady, didn't know what wheel size, gear size or tire choice to go for... By the way nice bike, looks like the conversion went well on that volcan
  4. If the security guys had caught them that day they would have wished they were already in prison picking up the soap......
  5. Eish my next gearing is 34x16
  6. And ride down the same road with the same results. By posting you manage to let other people become aware of the dangers in that area (and a lot of people run and cycle alone on that road). Plus you get a photo of the bike more exposed so may be someone spots it. But guess everyone to themselves.........
  7. Na i gave it about a 2 second thought to convert the tupperware but it was a simple choice. Easier to strip and paint the alu bike and what's an SS bike without some customizing. The last of the parts arrive late this week so it is just the painting that will take time

    Rapha Festive 500

If i was on my own or just with the GF i could attempt (but i will loose a day traveling back to JHB) but my dad will be with and my uncle. Now while my dad may be a serious cyclist and ready to ride the trails, he is also more than willing to make beer o'clock time an "AM" thing while on holiday. How could i not help out in that challenge.
  9. Working on it. Watch this space

    Rapha Festive 500

Sorry I will be riding mankele trails and drinking beer under the hot sun........... Or is is just drinking beer under the hot sun........
  11. Mmmmmmmmmmm could be a nice challenge
  12. And still had energy for quite a few beers unlike some Just one of those races that you keep going back to even though your butt complains for weeks afterwards. Suckers for pain....
  13. Yeah she was very shocked. My sister send her away from the scene with some friends while the search went on. I believe now she may be getting spoilt all week staying with granny and grandpa I believe they also tried to take a guy out on his scooter before they got her bike, so they were out with a mission to steel anything. There is a huge amount of homeless living in those trees right where it happened. May be time to send the dogs in and clean out the area.
  14. Like I said in the post the amount of people in the community that got involved in the search was amazing. If you saw the way these guys tried to find them you would know it was not taken lightly. Trinity Cycles guys had no hesitation chasing them through the reeds into the dam (with phones in pockets eish). I have to say even the police guys were great. Search went on for hours. Says something for living in a small place. JHB would never have gotten this response. They went crazy trying to catch them. Sad part is once it is dark the chances of catching them is almost 0% unless they turn up with the bike again somwehere to sell it or seen riding it. You can't arrest everyone now wearing a blue T-shirt (well I believe the police did bring 3 Blue T-shirt guys in later that night for questioning but could not be identified as it was the other guy with the axe she got a good look at). No one has taken this one lightly for sure. I think if there was this much commitment in places like JHB etc in catching guys then crime would be a lot less. Just a pity these criminals know the bush better than us. Once they were in those reeds you could hear them but could see nothing.
  15. No couch shots when it comes to kids...... Blue Trek 6700 with blue Sid fork. Not too many of them around, so keep your eyes open please.
  16. Got the stats for the hill climbing session. I rode from Mogallywood pub, up and over both sides of the Nek twice then rode back to Mogallywood pub, then realised it was before 10am so I rode back to the base of the short side of the Nek to wait for the GF. Switched off the garmin there. That came to 44km and 1300m climbing, so your looking at approx 35km and 1100m. Do not bring sprinting legs just climbing and beer drinking.
  17. Have you got a photo of the bike?
  18. Last time I did it, I did both sides twice on the SS. It was more than enough to say Beer O'clock time by 10am
  19. Rumour has it Mogallywood burgers are nearly better than his beer...........
  20. Will try get a photo from them.....
  21. One of these days when your in for some hill training come with us. we park at Mogallywood Pub, then ride from there (short 6km dirt rd to the pub). we do both sides of the nek twice then head back to mogallywood. Over 1000m climbing in approx 35km. Beer tastes great afterwards.
  22. So it seems you now have to be careful in Haarties town when riding. My 13yr old niece was bike jacked while riding with her mum on Friday afternoon. Guy chased her with an axe, (she was just behind her mum) and she got scared, jumped off her bike and ran. They grabbed the bike and ran into the bushes. Thank god they were both ok. Massive big up to Trinity cycles in Haarties, whom my sister phoned straight away (husband was at Lansaria at work and only had his bike to get home with, lucky we were driving out there and picked him up along the way). Trinity Cycles not only went straight after these guys within minutes, they arranged nearly all the security patrol guys and the police. Massive search party. Sadly these guys managed to get into the dam and in the reeds where they made an escape. So be careful even when riding in town in the Haarites area. Stick with the bunches. Scary part is loads of people ride and run along that rd.
  23. Rouxtjie were you thirsty, everyone has a full beer and yours is already halfway down Yeah waited as long as I could at VG to have a beer with you guys, even tried to pack really really slowly but when you turn around and the GF is now sitting in the car waiting it is a sign it's time to hurry up. Ok she was feeling a bit sore from her crash earlier (pulling a whole load of magura front break is not a wise move). Next time I shall tag along for the ride and beer.............
  24. Cool i will try shepard the girls around VG so they just happen to finish around 12 to 12-30 and will bump into you. I would suggest the Ale house but would ahve to make sure there is Red wine there as Kerry can't take a chance on home brew anymore Most upsetting
  25. Should be good timing, ride with the GF at VG could end round the same time as they will start later and won't be riding fast. Will keep up to date via beer stops pics......
