  1. Great scenery I'm sure. Quite an interesting history around the town. When we went through there a few years ago we were shown some special hospitality when we showed interest on one of the families' lavish veggie garden.
  2. Good luck with the new venture. I'm fond of two of the bike shops in the alliance and I hope this provides a way to compete with the big online shops.
  3. So how exactly does the respective bike shops form part of the site? Because it looks like stock is still kept in a central warehouse and shipped from there?
  4. Hi guys, I'm not a runner but I want to get moving a bit. 30 year old out of shape male with a stationary job. Would you say that following a Couch-to-5k plan (via an app) is a good idea?
  5. Hi guys, can someone ID these pepper type things? They don't grow much bigger and these ones will soon get soggy if not picked. Any ideas.? Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk
  6. How are these coming along?
  7. Gentlemen, I want to set up irrigation for my raised beds. I have 4 raised beds with 8 squares in each. I'm thinking of running a thick pipe in the middle of the bed, with 8 drippers going out of it. Something like in the image. Do you reckon it will be effective? What would I need to build something like this?
  8. This weekend I tried my hand at building beds. I'm quite happy with the outcome. Next, I'll like to square foot gardening. Have any of you got experience with that? How deep do the containers need to be?
  9. I bought quite a few things from Living Seeds: Tomatoes Watermelon (crimson sweet) Spaghetti squash Gem squash Spanspek Chillies Swiss chard Red Popcorn I have planted the seeds in a tray the past weekend and need to prepare the beds and containers over the weekend. I bought some wood to make raised beds. Will get my hands dirty over the weekend. I'm new to most of the things mentioned above and very excited to see how it goes. I've got some Swiss Chard and habanero (sp? ) peppers from last season that's still going strong. At the start of the winter I also planted the following fruit trees (they're so cheap at the nursery): Orange Lemon Naartjie Plum Peach Nectarine I guess it's still going to be a few years before they'll bear fruit, although they have made blossoms already. I think they're too small to have fruit this season. Anyways, it's weird but I find the edible garden idee very excited as I previously hated normal gardening. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  10. Don't know if these were mentioned, but two good streaming options is Stremio (preferred) and Popcorn Time (also okay but sometimes slow depending on the sources). Both rely on torrents. Stremio allows you to add custom plug in for alternative sources. Google it and give it a shot Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  11. That's great! I like that idea. I've tried 16:8 daily, which is fasting 16 hours (including sleep time) and eat in a 8 hour window for a few months and it actually worked as a method of calorie restriction. Then I fell off due to holiday and now it's really difficult to get back into it. Guess I just need to bit the bullet
  12. Hi guys, Don't know if this has been discussed before, but have you looked at intermittent fasting? I think an important part of the success of low carb, high fat, is the eating less often part, something you'll hear the likes of Tim Noakes talk about often (skipping lunch and eating only when hungry)
  13. Last week I planted a few onion seeds from Mayford. Today I noticed this warning in red text at the back of the packet: What gives??
  14. Nice composter available from Makro https://www.makro.co.za/sports-and-outdoor/first-dutch-brands-220l-composter-221593EA
  15. Fellow Bloemfonteiner, watter komkommers groei jy daar? En hoe lyk jou tuin deesdae?
  16. Hi guys, Complete newbie here! A few months ago I started with a few veggie seedlings just to experiment (and see if I enjoy tending a veggie garden). I planted peppers, spinach, strawberries and cherry tomato seedlings directly into the ground. This was end November. We had water restrictions and a very hot & dry summer, so they suffered a bit. Growth was slow and insects or birds terrorized my veggie patch. Few weeks ago I decided to transplant what was left (only peppers, strawberries & spinach) into pots, which allowed me to move it into a cooler part of the garden during the hot months, and move it to the stoep when the winter freeze comes, and finally to water it better. I've used potting soil and compost for the pots. Also bought the fish fertilizer which I'll administer about every 6 weeks. Here is my biggest spinach plant which is still too small to harvest (I guess) You'll notice the leaves have some damage - I'm not sure if this is caused by bugs or birds? Also, you'll see some small tomato seedlings coming up on the sides. This was an experiment to see how easy tomato seeds grow from a slice of fresh tomato (very easy!). I'll transplant them when they're bigger. And here are my peppers, also too small to harvest You'll notice similar leave damage. The strawberry plants are still alive, although not bearing fruit currently (not in season) A few more questions: What can I do to accelerate growth further? These plants are almost 5 months old already! Should the peppers, spinach and strawberries be able to survive the winter? I also want to plant onion and swiss chard seeds. Is this a good time of the year? Any advice appreciated as always!
  17. RE Compost heaps, I found this quite interesting:
  18. Watter soort komkommers is dit? And planted from seeds or seedlings?
  19. Thanks, I'll give Fat Secret a shot
  20. Here is my log for yesterday. I think some calories aren't represented correctly on MFP, because I ate A LOT of food. Felt a bit frail this morning, but I'm better now. http://s24.postimg.org/5j1dh8zc5/Capture.jpg
  21. So today was my first day doing Leangains. I had breakfast at 12:30 this afternoon which was a small avo, cucumber and bacon. Then at 4h I had salami, cucumber and a small avo. For dinner at 8h I had chicken breast with spinach and feta, cucumber and a tomato. I had two naartjies as snacks. After tracking all my intake the whole time, I saw that I still had far too few calories in. So I added a strawberry smoothie consisting of a cup of milk, some strawberries and a bit of xylitol. Im still in a calorie deficit for the day, which is awesome. I'm not sure if MyFitnessPal tracked a food source incorrectly,or if chicken and veggies are just really low in calories. But I'm feeling properly stuffed. Will see how tomorrow goes.
  22. Thanks for the link to the Fasting Twins channel. Just watched a few of their videos, they're awesome
  23. By 24hour fast I mean not rating anything for a day. That's one type of fast. Then you also get the leangains fast, which I'm going to try. That's where you fast for 16 hours and refeed for 8 hours a day, on a daily basis. The 16 hours fall mostly over bed time, so it sounds easy.
  24. Thanks to some advice posted by Hubbers, I decided to read up about intermittent fasting. The benefits seem great, especially for those who would like to loose weight or gain muscle. Here are some helpful resources: Articles:James Clear: The Beginners Guide to FastingWhat I’ve Learned from 2 Years of Intermittent FastingLeanGains guideLeanGains SummaryMark's Daily Apple: Intermittent Fasting Series Videos: The Fast Guide to the Fast Diet - for people too lazy to read the book BBC Documentary - Eat, Fast And Live LongerDr. Mercola Interviews Dr. Varady About FastingFasting Twins Youtube Channel (@HodgeTwins) I'm going to incorporate fasting in my own diet. I've just started with a 24 hour fast, but will probably try the Leangains method (16 hours of fasting, followed by 8 hours of feeding). I'll stick to real food and lean towards a low-carb, high fat diet during the 8 hours of feeding. Please share your experience with intermittent fasting. Cheers
  25. MTBeer that looks like a lot of fun!
