Good luck with the new venture. I'm fond of two of the bike shops in the alliance and I hope this provides a way to compete with the big online shops.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I've got a quote for servicing the fork (R950) so will have that done ASAP to prevent damage.
The reason for not just dropping the bike off at a LBS is because I want to know what to expect so that I don't get taken for a ride, and to decide what I want to do first as having everything fixed at once might be too expensive. I do think having the bike serviced by a LBS might sort out a few of the issues already, so I'll start there.
So how exactly does the respective bike shops form part of the site? Because it looks like stock is still kept in a central warehouse and shipped from there?
I just realised this group set's price. I should never have had let it go unmaintained for so long [emoji25]
Hi gentlemen,
I've been off the bike for a few years and before that I haven't really done proper maintenance on it. I want to get back in the saddle.
My tech knowledge is zero, so I'm going to mention what I think needs attention and if anyone can give advice please jump right in.
Firstly the back rim seems to be slightly buckled. It's visible when spinning the wheel while the bike is upside down. How would one fix this? See video
Another thing that always bothered me is that I can never seem to get the back wheel fixed straight on. The tyre seems very close to the frame on on the one side and wider away on the other side.
You'll also see in the pics how close the disc is to the frame. When spinning the wheel it looks like it catches a bit of the brake because it stops kinda suddenly.
When spinning the crank backwards it feels a bit stiff. This is even with the chain unhooked. Any reason why that can be?
The shocks seems like it sagged a bit. I'm guessing it needs to be pumped again. And how often does it need to be serviced?
The chain and cassettes seem worn. What is the current SRAM model that replaced the XX, or would make a good replacement for the chain, cassette and chain rings?
The one bottle holder's mountings in the frame are loose. Can these be fitted again?
The tires are also worn so I'm thinking of putting an Ikon in front and an Ardent at the back. Currently its tyres are 2.0 front and 2.2 rear and I as to go thicker but in afraid a thicker tyre won't fit the back because it's so close to the frame. It's currently a really stiff ride so in trying to see what I can do to make it a bit more comfy.
All advice appreciated.
I just looked up what Zwift is.. it looks amazing!
It does look like it really becomes valuable when you have a smart trainer to imitate climbs.
Pieter and Carol from Park Cycles still have some classes at the University. Don't know the setup, but you could check with them and try it out?
Ah that would be great, thanks. I'll chat to Pieter
Hi guys,
Does anyone know if there are spinning classes in Bloemfontein? I don't want to sign a 2 year contract with Virgin Active just for SC. I know Park Cycles used to have spinning classes but they closed down.
Hi guys, can someone ID these pepper type things? They don't grow much bigger and these ones will soon get soggy if not picked. Any ideas.?

How are these coming along?
This weekend I tried my hand at building beds. I'm quite happy with the outcome.
Next, I'll like to square foot gardening. Have any of you got experience with that? How deep do the containers need to be?
I bought quite a few things from Living Seeds:
Tomatoes
Watermelon (crimson sweet)
Spaghetti squash
Gem squash
Spanspek
Chillies
Swiss chard
Red Popcorn
I have planted the seeds in a tray the past weekend and need to prepare the beds and containers over the weekend. I bought some wood to make raised beds. Will get my hands dirty over the weekend. I'm new to most of the things mentioned above and very excited to see how it goes.
I've got some Swiss Chard and habanero (sp? ) peppers from last season that's still going strong.
At the start of the winter I also planted the following fruit trees (they're so cheap at the nursery):
Orange
Lemon
Naartjie
Plum
Peach
Nectarine
I guess it's still going to be a few years before they'll bear fruit, although they have made blossoms already. I think they're too small to have fruit this season.
Anyways, it's weird but I find the edible garden idee very excited as I previously hated normal gardening.

Don't know if these were mentioned, but two good streaming options is Stremio (preferred) and Popcorn Time (also okay but sometimes slow depending on the sources). Both rely on torrents. Stremio allows you to add custom plug in for alternative sources. Google it and give it a shot

That's great! I like that idea.
I've tried 16:8 daily, which is fasting 16 hours (including sleep time) and eat in a 8 hour window for a few months and it actually worked as a method of calorie restriction.
Then I fell off due to holiday and now it's really difficult to get back into it. Guess I just need to bit the bullet
Hi guys,
Don't know if this has been discussed before, but have you looked at intermittent fasting?
I think an important part of the success of low carb, high fat, is the eating less often part, something you'll hear the likes of Tim Noakes talk about often (skipping lunch and eating only when hungry)
Nice composter available from Makro

I've got an appointment with Fruit and Veg City. They have asked me to supply to them over the festive season.

Fellow Bloemfonteiner, watter komkommers groei jy daar? En hoe lyk jou tuin deesdae?
Hi guys,
Complete newbie here!
A few months ago I started with a few veggie seedlings just to experiment (and see if I enjoy tending a veggie garden).
I planted peppers, spinach, strawberries and cherry tomato seedlings directly into the ground. This was end November.
We had water restrictions and a very hot & dry summer, so they suffered a bit. Growth was slow and insects or birds terrorized my veggie patch.
Few weeks ago I decided to transplant what was left (only peppers, strawberries & spinach) into pots, which allowed me to move it into a cooler part of the garden during the hot months, and move it to the stoep when the winter freeze comes, and finally to water it better.
I've used potting soil and compost for the pots. Also bought the fish fertilizer which I'll administer about every 6 weeks.
Here is my biggest spinach plant which is still too small to harvest (I guess)
You'll notice the leaves have some damage - I'm not sure if this is caused by bugs or birds?
Also, you'll see some small tomato seedlings coming up on the sides. This was an experiment to see how easy tomato seeds grow from a slice of fresh tomato (very easy!). I'll transplant them when they're bigger.
And here are my peppers, also too small to harvest
You'll notice similar leave damage.
The strawberry plants are still alive, although not bearing fruit currently (not in season)
A few more questions:
What can I do to accelerate growth further? These plants are almost 5 months old already!
Should the peppers, spinach and strawberries be able to survive the winter?
I also want to plant onion and swiss chard seeds. Is this a good time of the year?
Any advice appreciated as always!
Vandag se komkommers
Watter soort komkommers is dit? And planted from seeds or seedlings?
Where has your bike taken you today?

When we went through there a few years ago we were shown some special hospitality when we showed interest on one of the families' lavish veggie garden.
