  1. I had an extension done, was a quite a few years ago, it was ok for a few months but then started 'seperating' It was repaired with a bit of an 'insert' so at least the whole seat thing wouldn't just fall off .... my son, shorter than me, now rides that frame Just my experience, others may have been luckier?
  2. This ... I was taught by my cycling peers in the early 90's that in almost all cases, at least on road bike tubed wheels, no tyre levers are needed or in fact should be used to reseat a tyre after fixing a puncture or fitting new tyres of course. I have noticed over the years though that every so often a specific combination of tyre/rim can be a bugger though!
  3. I remember being told by a long time cyclist some 35 years ago 'be careful because if you stick with it, you may even start to love cycling. How right he was, crucial was 'if you stick with it!' Seems to have had an impact on a lot I've done and achieved .... physical and mental 'limits' challenged many times. Always that lingering thought though ... could you have gone further?
  4. Jeez man I've been in a few of those commuter races .... lost many a time 🫣
  5. Coming back to this topic I sincerely hope the necessary evidence needed for a drink driving offence has been collected ... I mean according to reports all 5 occupants of the Polo were taken to hospital, surely a blood sample could have been taken at the same time? Let's see how the investigation/prosecution goes
  6. I see that pretty often on my normal training routes, in my case they are all commuters .... they are generally pretty attentive and often give me ample space to pass. In a lot of cases, like with some runners as well, they will in fact give space so that I pass on the left away from the cars. I understand their reasoning, for them it's not a leisure activity ... it's their only option to get to and from work and they do it as safely as they feel possible... by seeing the oncoming traffic in this case All cyclists ride bikes .... everyone who rides a bike is not necessarily a cyclist!
  7. That is the most enlightened and rational post I have seen on this subject, thank you!
  8. Now that is a classy rider to my mind, her attitude and comments/concern for other riders and the fact that besides having a cracker season she is also the world champ! Chapeau bas Lucinda 🏆
  9. 'Sew-ups' another #IYKYK 😎 Most will never know how cool they really are! Lest anyone is even thinking about mentioning the P word .... don't bother I just call the team car 😜
  10. Jeez that's brave mate! I've had a go, albeit on a road bike, didn't get very far 🫣 A bit further down towards Lido there's another infamous paved climb also viciously steep, I first had a go with my gravel bike and that was OK.... I got up with a road bike a while later but I nearly thought my hamstrings were gonna be torn from the bone! I'm told that access to it is no longer possible sadly 😢
  11. So so mad 😠 To my understanding Gauteng road champs will be taking place next weekend and the route passes just 1 or 2k down that road ... In fact I saw quite a few riders preparing there this morning Chatted to one of the team managers I know well and he told me about the incident and that he was quite shaken, his comment was 'cycling here in the South is an extreme sport'! He stopped there just after it happened and he told me he saw the 2 murderers sitting visibly intoxicated on the side of the road ... the wrecked vehicle looked like quite some speed was involved 🤬 I better add 'allegedly' before I get in some trouble I suppose
  12. Yoh .... July 11, 2005
  13. I’ll take a rain ride over a windy ride every time!
  14. A bit off topic but .... through my best mate Grumpy I got these Campag Nucleon wheels as I needed a set of wheels for a single speed bike I'm told in their day they were revered for their lightness, strength, asymmetric and bladed spokes (ahead of their time) and all round performance So when I mentioned possibly rattle canning the spokes black as it would fit better with the bike I would swear there was about to be an immediate tarring and feathering for the mere suggestion. I have in the meantime accepted the silver despite the 'for poor people' sentiment 🤯 Just fitting and using it as a single speed wheel I'm told is sacrilege but hey I'm also not that known for doing 'normal or correct things' anyway so best the Campag disciples look away 😎
  15. Jeez mon ami ... my good mate @patches told me long time ago that silver spokes are for poor people 🤪
  16. Yes mine 2 or 3 times ... did what it was supposed to 🤷
  17. I don't know these days but in the beginning .... I own 2 and have never bought one. Picked them up on the trails some years ago, luckily both the 'plug side'. No one claimed them so they're on/in my bikes, maybe the riders just didn't tighten them enough 🤔
  18. Maybe it's the bar storage that's needed? The slug plug is small enough though not to be an issue to carry!
  19. Why I said don't mind me .... just a personal thing with more specifically 'gravel' races My unpopular opinion is that if it's a 'proper' MTB event then a gravel bike should not be suitable anyway (there'll always be the Audie Murphy types but that's human nature I guess) and if it's a proper gravel route then a gravel bike should be the best tool for the job But as you say the organisers anyway make their rules so my take is moot ... saw a guy yesterday at the Summer Fast One MTB race have an eina fall on a gravel bike coming down 'peaches and cream'
  20. Makes sense to me, drop bars banned in races considered to be MTB events as much as there should be only drop bars allowed in true gravel events! But hey don't mind me .....
  21. They said 100mm mos ....
  22. Since I've only ever had Monstercross bikes and no true 'gravel' bike this article was of great interest .... 'gravel' bikes with MTB hardtail frames and suspension forks, the wheel turns? https://www.bikemag.com/news/why-drop-bar-mountain-bikes
