  1. I go through the same but add ... 3. Stripping bikes and having them painted despite there being nothing wrong with the current design or aesthetics
  2. Skud maar net my kop ... I knocked this together out of some pallet wood I had lying around during the 'scamdemic' I have since varnished it and it's been used here and there when I've been 'injured'
  3. Weather is pretty inclement on the Highveld.... My Dad's mate Andre would have said "skud jou kop bietjie lyk my hy raas!" Not cold so that helps 😎 and no I didn't go out in the rain 🤪
  4. At the time the deal 'went down' it was all good .... pretty sure I did give a review (good off course). Not sure if you can/could change the review after 2 weeks though As you say reviews and if you're really a stickler then the 'Rouxtjie rule' at the very least! #IYKYK
  5. I had the experience some years ago where I sold a damn decent bike to someone that 'wanted it for his wife' but they were on a tight budget .... Would be a great upgrade for her etc. Thinking I was doing something good I let it go for substantially less, only for it to pop up for sale about 2 weeks later for more than I was asking for it. No changes whatsoever! Anyway I've long gone made peace with it .... However I certainly would not do it again! Mostly just sell amongst mates and acquaintances now
  6. Just checking with the original owner about the name and how it came about, will revert
  7. I do understand that there are some bike shops that really are not let's just say up to a 'normal standard' of service, no question about that. In fact some way worse than others! As long as we understand that, at least to my personal experience, we are often ourselves not above reproach .... those that feel they are, I am impressed!
  8. I often wonder how we expect perfection from the cycling shops, how many of us can say that in our own industry/job that we make absolutely no mistakes/slip ups of any kind? Must be cool to be that good at what you do! #timerramblings
  9. 'You're not made of sugar' as the Dutch would say 😜
  10. A well known cycle store in the main street of Alberton since like forever .... in fact when I started in '89 they were the go to store in our 'hood Until last year they still provided many riders with spares and occasional service .... Amina the owner was a goldmine of info and a damn super person as well As per the website it was sold though and the store closed down by the new owners after only a few months, a real pity to us 'timers
  11. When you've got nowhere left to turn, turn on the gas!
  12. Of all the many many events I've done over the years this is the one I'm really sorry I only did twice (90/91 3:33/3:34) .... Both times memorable weekends away, first time on my own by car and the second in a Microbus with family Initially because from 91 decided to focus on another discipline for an eventual green number (no not Comrades 🤪) and later simply from a cost point of view Anyway just the ramblings of a 'timer as our neighbours sons like to refer to me as
  13. Daniyal Matthews should be very proud not only of being the SA champ but of having outsmarted and outridden those who should have known better! Well done
  14. Thank you! I'll certainly take note of that
  15. Now you have me thinking 🤔 As I'm making changes to my TT bike anyway albeit from oval to round but I could also go to shorter cranks Man I love tinkering with bikes 🤪
  16. That has also been my experience .... Since I don't do those kind of climbs anymore though ... I feel no difference either way for my 'normal' riding Have ridden oval 'rotor' 2* on my TT bike for many years, interesting I'll see if there's a difference I guess as I'm busy fitting a 1* round ring at the moment
  17. Would have to be this bike for me .... started life as a rigid single speed MTB then prior to the gravel bike 'craze' it was converted to a monstercross as they were referred to. Have done over 18000k's on it and even did the very first Race To The Sun on it, was a cracker day out! Has had a paint refresh and many other changes over the time and is now waiting desperately for someone to please please help with an adapter to fit the Gen1 Lefty standing in my bike room 🙏
  18. Ai DiD you must surely be mistaken e-bikers would never ever do such a thing 🤪
  19. I'm looking at this for some old brakes I have lying around .... as a matter of interest anyone know what fluid would be best/ok to use? OK no worries, question answered on the Shigura thread 😎
  20. Variety is what I would recommend: As variety is the spice of life in food, so it is in exercise. Change it up. Many different bikes, routes and reasons to ride ... keeps boredom away 😎
  21. And then adds squeaking and creaking some say 🤪
  22. So I'm wanting to fit a Lefty to my non 'Dale framed gravel bike .... Before I get my very resourceful mate Grumpy at The Workshop to get an adapter made up for me, just wondering would anyone have one 'lying around'?
  23. A very good mate and pretty fit cyclist ending up in hospital with a PE and other issues this week just brought this thought home to me again ... Being fit or having a healthy lifestyle doesn't guarantee a long life, but it will add life to your years. The idea that we can control our health destinies based on how we eat, exercise and live is an enticing one though!
  24. I chatted to a chap quite a while ago and he told me they want to see the cars so they can avoid something happening. Often they are riding in dawn and dusk lighting...
