  1. Long road bike ride, better for endurance than a mountain bike ride all day long 😎 "Mining is like a search-and-destroy mission"
  2. Off topic, at a braai over the festive season Mate "I can't believe he is 13 and still believes in Santa" Mate's wife 'you're 39 and still believe in Herbalife you tchop"
  3. It is what you see it as .... personally I see it as a challenge to keep motivated during that specific period else is to easy to just chill out because everyone else is. I have accomplished it many years, last year 2022 I couldn't and 2023 I only managed 370. I had as much fun doing that than all the other times I finished it 😎 And I know I'm not the only one that sees it like that
  4. 'You don’t laugh when the wolf pack is coming' Absolute cracker of a morning for a ride on the Highveld 😎
  5. Only if there's a 'covid' lock down!
  6. Best I get on it then, I don't have much black PETG left πŸ€” Thanks for the heads up on that
  7. Very nice, just from experience always tether! More important since its 'out of sight' while riding
  8. Normally said by those with small ... πŸ€ͺ
  9. Just out and about and I was asked recently, so what do you think about when you're spending all that time riding on your own? After some thought I can say that I've stopped trying to solve the world's problems, those days are long gone they can solve their own! What I generally do is calculate how far at what average speed in the time I have available and what route to take .... This morning though I recalled being told by my now ex son in law, whom I still have an excellent relationship with and who happens to have been an excellent road and track cyclist 'Very few people can really push a 53x11 and you're probably not one of them' .... 'yes when you're going downhill you might roll out that gear but that probably has more to do with gravity than your legs' At the time I was pretty peeved but over the years I have learnt that he was right 🫣 Now some of you may disagree but give it time ..... Your thoughts while you ride, if you ride alone that is 😎
  10. Nice Dassie! As a matter of interest I believe one of the Joburg regulars was on a graffiti tour with my mate big Thys the spray painter recently ... and a bit of a chat Come on who was it?
  11. Legs were a bit poked after yesterday .... did 50 today so 357k in 6 rides 'Stoked' as the cool kids say 😎
  12. Popped passed Kiepie's place .... Always felt sorry for that oke. Important milestone passed today, tired and sore but so well worth it 😎 First 100k in almost a year and a half!
  13. Decided what the heck I'll take a ride to Bass Lake and back for something different this morning .... I mean it's about 25k's so 50 in total. Had to be back by 9:30 .... turns out its over 30, had to seriously haul the mail to get back on time. But one must get the picture so whatever it takes right? It was blimmin lekker to test the legs for the first time in a long time and they were up to the challenge 😎
  14. And there I was concerned that I have 400 to go ..... But let's see πŸ™ˆ
  15. Last year this time I was lying in ICU (came home on Xmas day) and no riding after that for almost 2 months ... I have recovered and have joined the challenge, having said that I certainly won't make the 500 but am interested to see how close I can come ...
  16. 'It's just a bike' .... jinne ek verloor amper my kop πŸ™„
  17. I remember a simpler time .... Ja ja ja there were ox wagons 😜 .... If you wanted heart rate you used Polar and if you wanted navigation you used Garmin. If you wanted both well you had to use both! These kinds of decisions are a lot more difficult now like many others. In my day you drove what your Dad drove, if he was a Ford man well then so were you. Easy peasy 😎
  18. The beauty of empty streets is the freedom to wander and wonder.
  19. Took a moment out of the rat race to go try out the 'RAT' bike ... just remember even if you win you're still a rat πŸ€
  20. The rat/mullet bike all done and dusted, test ride this morning .... that fork has about 45mm of usable travel. Enough to make for a comfortable ride on the general gravel routes I ride, not sure how much of that is the 'phat' tyres and how much the fork or a combination. Crap on tar though
  21. I do get his point and I know I'm going to get flack for this but I would consider it normal decency to help someone out whatever the circumstance but hey that's probably just me
  22. Since my life (and its been a fair long time) it's the first time I've ever heard that kind of sentiment .... maybe the riders of all kinds are just a different breed here in the souf On the 2 occasions that I've had serious falls in the last year stranger's (in one case it was trail runners) that came along called the contact on my ICE bracelet and in one instance the ambulance I know the risks and as mentioned I have decided for myself that it is acceptable, whatever will be will be. At the same time I do whatever I can to be safe and get home to my family
  23. Ja nee kyk maak my mal 😲 .... Gravel bike is like single speed, you either get it or you don't ... Many confused Paduwans here 😎
  24. Anyone who passes me definitely hasn't been as far as I have even if it's in the first 5k's of my ride and the audacity to pass me ..... pass someone what's that? To a certain extent some sentiments displayed here is why I'm not a group rider 😜
