  1. Thinking about a tandem Monstercross gravel bike ... The donor bike is available and most of the parts ... Just scheming about running the mechanical discs, it does have 200mm rotors front and back. As usual quick and nasty so with what I've got hence the normal old style 10sp STI's, 26" wheels with MTB tyres (need some comfort), mechanical discs, 29" rigid fork. Might mess up the geometry but it's a tandem (26") does it matter? Will start putting the bits together during this week .... Pics to follow
  2. Rietvlei also open from tomorrow!
  3. So many people including CSA questioning the unmentioned 5k rule that it'll probably end up being added again. You have to just shake your head..
  4. I did yesterday, a special day though... As you say no withdrawal and went out and had a blast this morning!
  5. Was just going to say at the circus the clowns are not in bloody charge!
  6. This is one of my pet peeves, when cyclists get singled out for some of other misdemeanor. This may come as a shock to some but let's take your '4%' scientific survey.... 4% of PEOPLE will behave in this manner no matter what walk of life they come from, be they cyclists, runners, drivers, bakers or hairdressers.. Those people generally act like that whether they are cycling, driving, shopping or just about any activity. Someday it'll dawn on many that some people are just idiots or at the very least don't confirm to your 'norm' They are out there, I've learnt to live with them and not let them spoil my Sunday Ce la vie
  7. The only thing I know is avoid the older Garmin ANT+ dongles, they work fine with Garmin devices but nothing else [emoji20]
  8. Sadly I think many parents return to work tomorrow and the opportunity they had to enjoy this may be lost but hopefully they'll at least still use weekend mornings!
  9. The 'Stasi' must be wringing their hands in despair, so much less to moan and whinge about from tomorrow... Besides the ones still trying to find reasons to keep some of those old rules. Skud my kop @'Dale carbo loading will commence this evening!
  10. The Highveld in winter, dreary and drab, still that deep blue sky and a bike ride somehow are soothing to the soul [emoji41]
  11. Totally agree with you, not mentioned and certainly would have been reiterated were it important... Let it go demmit
  12. Must be honest we've only sold two 2nd hand bikes, an XS 27.5 ladies and a kiddies 16" bike during this time. No new bikes, perhaps other shops have though ... lots of maintenance work being done
  13. My son owns Just Cycles, they moved from Meyersdal Mall (Alberton) to Rietvlei Zoo Farm just before the lockdown... I help out there occasionally.
  14. Amidst the craziness going on its stories like this that makes an old man's heart happy, I sincerely hope like you at least some of them keep riding!
  15. One cool thing we have noticed at the shop is the number of neglected, old, unused adult and kids bikes that are being brought in with the vague instruction 'just make it rideable' ... Some real classics, haven't seen so many 26" bikes in like forever! More adults and kids on bikes, that's a win in anyone books I reckon [emoji41]
  16. Not sure if that was aimed at me but I was definitely etly not pushing to ride in groups, as a matter of interest many on here actually know that I'm a 'lone ranger' and almost only ride solo besides an occasional ride with one other... I'm only human if you cut me do I not bleed? My question stems from a few comments I've seen where people want to report small groups (3 or 4 maybe) to ride together but turns out they actually live in the same house and others again that ride in areas that have been identified as possible bike jacking areas in the passed and feel unsafe riding alone. I suppose some would say then stay at home or ride round the block but I'm not wired that way... To each his own I suppose?
  17. 'at the very least' ???? but that would also be my thinking ... It would appear however that some people even consider two a group ????
  18. For the love of all things holy can one of the many whiners about cyclists riding in groups please define exactly (not more than about ... Or more or less ... Just an actual bloody number!) how many constitutes a 'group' so that we can all conform to their rules? Bloody curtain twitchers everywhere!
  19. Just wondering and I think it's been stated somewhere else... Surely it will only lift the bars affecting fit and reach and not affect the 'geometry'? Unless you put some kind of spacer/extender between the fork and the frame off course...
  20. I would posit that bike weight isn't critical (within reason) for even more advanced riders unless you are at the 'pointy end of the field' to coin a phrase and want to win. It should not be the overriding factor, lots of good advice from others regarding bike/equipment choices here already.
  21. Cold out this morning but with the right clothing/kit it's all good ... that Covid/winter proof Chinese balaclava works pretty well, better than a buff. An incidental purchase at one of those 'we sell anything' Chinese shops quite a few years ago but never used till today.
