  1. Stretch, The 230 is going to cost me R3.2k as well. It seems like the 35 can probably be R1k less. I guess you don't have to enable the HRM for comrades if that is the one race that you might not make the duration, be it Optical or strap. On the other hand I'm more inclined to go for the ultimate battery life one once and for all, but not sure if I'm thinking wrong here.
  2. Gamin opinion if you guys don't mind please. I had my mind made up on the 230. You have 16 hours of battery life, so your good for the 12 of comrades and for the rest of the time you don't have to charge it as often. Now the 35 is about to launch. We also have the 15. Quite frankly that is all we need, but the 15's battery life is about 6/7 hours. The 35 actually has the same features as the 230, but with the optical hrm and only 13 hours battery life. OHRM vs strap HRM does not bother me, anyone is fine. I'm more about the battery life. I can save quite a few bucks if I go the 35 route, but I'm just afraid that the 13 hours is more like (typical garmin and these things) 10/11 hours. Also, if those figures is more than 13 for example if you disable the hrm just for comrades for example, then it is also fine, but the fine folks at Garmin RSA cannot tell me that.
  3. Can one pdf or print that whole magazine in some way? Or where can one get it? 4. Can you guys open the January to June links, it gives me an error? http://www.comrades.com/bronze-medal-programme-2017
  5. Did'nt know about that. I used kfenak for 5 days and the patches up until the 32km Saturday. Knee is 100% now, don't know about it. We have a easy week this week and I will just continue with the exercises and stretches! Thanks

  7. So far I get away with VERY FEW. I eat oats beforehand and just take a sip of my wife's perpetium once or twice during and a little sip of water every now and then, but really nothing much. My wife also feels very bad during and after running, blood sugar?, hence the perpetium. Whenever she uses that she is 100 times better.
  8. I avoid coke almost at all cost. Oh, one other not so nice surprise I got on Saturday is that my nipples is not immune against chaffing on the other side of 25 km's. Eish BTW, my comrades colleaque (he has 10 now) struggles with his blood sugar dropping and he swears by Hammer Perpeteum, perhaps worth looking into?
  9. Damm, this is how running should be!!!
  10. How so? We did our 32 LSD Saturday and yesterday 13. The 32 was our longest to date and the distance of 112 (The 9 days, last Saturday untill yesterady) was by far the most I did in my lifetime. Even more than I did with a bicycle for a week. Which is obviously a normal week for others but this is new to us. Everything held up nicely, don't know anything about the ITB apart from the normal joints and muscles sensitivity. My wife is struggling with her groin, which bothered her terribly on Saturday, but not yesterday. It comes and goes. But we're very chuffed with how things are progressing, slowly but surely.
  11. Damm Ferret that is crap news... Hope you get well soon. So I went full out regarding my knee with advice from my running colleague as well. I got a batch of anti inflammatories, a box of trans act patches and did all my excercises and stretches. I still did not feel anything whilst running and even afterwards now everything is better. So roll on the 32kms tommorrow and 13 Sunday and I guess we will soon know the answer to the test...
  12. https://breakingmuscle.com/mobility-recovery/the-2-day-itb-cure-for-endurance-athletes Sense or bull?
  13. 100! Mine is the bone to the bottom outside of my knee. Will take it easy and keep an eye on it, thanks.
  14. I don't feel it whilst running, only afterwards. Not even so much this morning after the morning run, I started feeling it around 12:00. We have hills and speedwork tommorrow, I'm definately going to skip that. Problem is we have our longest to date this weekend, 32 and then another 35 the weekend of the 22nd. Should I rather skip the 32 of the weekend or take the rest of the week off and do the 32 slowly? Thanks a lot!
  15. You can say that again. I'm just not sure whethere you will feel a bit of soreness and that it is all part of the journey, or whether this is serious warning signs. I guess there is no such thing as self-Myofascial Release? Or should I cautiously continue with my program, but do a heap of itb stretches, hip hike and other exercises each day with it (stretches and exercises that I have been worried about, I know I have been neglegting them for the last 2 weeks or so)
  16. No matter what the question, duct tape is the answer... LOL The not so good news, I feel my knee, well let's just say a tenderness in the ITB area coming back. Now the miles have been stacked up the last weeks, but the issue is they are stacking up way worse up untill 12/11. I am concerned about this and not sure how to handle this.
  17. I think it's safe to say that the frustrating period in my new Brooks Ghost 9's are now over. There was a piece of sticking on the inside of my foot behind the big toe that chaffed me just whenever it chooses and then the next time not soo much. So I eliminated and changed all the variables that I had on those days, with and without vaseline, thinest to thickest of thin socks. Now the only thing that remains is whenever I run on the dreadmill it happens. Out on the road, even with the thickest socks without any vaseline or nothing funny, 100%. Weird, but oh so happy days....
  18. David Gatebe will agree, in fact the R700 would be overspending in his case!
  19. I might be looking at this the wrong way, but the price of shoes have never bothered me that much. It is one of the areas that I'm not going to skimp and then down the line it gives you issues or one day you sit with buggered knees or whatever. It is not as if I buy a new pair every 3 months. I'll rather save money in other areas, this is after all the main and almost only piece of equipment you need for running...
  20. Heard good feedback about them, I might get a pair as well. This dude seems to be very impressed as well... https://meiklejohn.co/2016/07/27/comrades-2016-the-dust-has-settled/ "I’ve also decided to put another brand of shoe to the test, in June I started testing the Brooks Launch and more recently the Glycerin 14. What a pleasure, the Launch may just be the shoe to consider for the up-run and fits the mold of “racer-trainer” perfectly. The Glycerin will more than likely be my “trainer”, built to absorb the bulk of the weekly training runs, offering great support and cushioning in the process. I can’t wait to try out the Hyperion, a pure “racing” shoe, ideal for Parkruns, time trials, speedwork and races up to 21km."
  21. This is the feedback I get from all our local stores, all their asics clients complain with each new addition coming out. Myself and my wife had one pair each two years back and never again thanks...
  22. Oh yes thanks, I do that as well. Just sometimes difficult after races. I want to keep thinks right this time around, do not want a knee to come bugger up everthing along the way, seeing that I do feel a very slight pain on the outside of the knee after this weekends 24 mountain race...
  23. Just a recap on ITB if I may... The only preventative/recovery excercises that you can do is the strenthening of core, butt, hips and the muscles around the knees. Foam rolling and not increasing milleage to much week on week. Is that about it?
