  1. So nobody with experience on the double socks?
  2. I'm on half size up and cannot complain. The Trail New Balance is the same size and is definately a bigger/wider fit than my brooks road. But the NB is even better than the brooks, I have nothing bothering me. My wife though, with the wide/big NB trail is the best she ever had. Her brooks road is worse than her Nikes was. Her second toes always took hamering, they are black, toenail grows upwards, buggered up to say the least. Both her big toenails is also now blue and buggered up with the increased milleage. Then she gets blister on top of blister on top of blister on the inside of her foot. Hence my thinking that the width is the issue, where the wide new balances does not do this. The "reasoning" behind the smaller and not size up shoes, is that the shoe keeps you foot in place and that you feet does not have to brake inside the shoe, so to speak. Well, I don't know. She does have "claw/hanging" toes, so I can imagine that this is also a contributing factor. She does prefer thin socks, where I like thicker socks. I think she must give the thicker ones a go and thus why I'm thinking about this blister free double socks(or just two pairs) if there is any method in that. Totally clueless and frustrated with this, I can't even imagine how it must feel to run with feet looking like that...
  3. Does anybody use or know the effectiveness of 1000 Miler/Hilly/etc. socks, wrt blister prevention? And on the same subject, what is the correct sizing of running shoes? I know there is obviously a lot of personal preference and differences, but what is the guide. Our local running store expert (and green club member) keep on telling us that our shoes are to big (thumb width in front). He wants it to be nearer to "perfect fit". My friend (another green club member) would make it bigger than the thumb width if I let him, but he also recommends "mens shoes" for ladies. He sorted out numerous club ladies by getting them in "bigger" mens shoes.
  4. I only saw one pair of those NYC's per picture and did'nt notice the other one. I see now, very cool colours, but the Blue is also very nice. What is the going rate for the ISO3 up there? Goes without saying we don't have them here in the States yet. The other thing I don't like about that Mizuno's is they still have the leather stitched on toe cap parts, that is a recipe for chaffing in my wife's case at least. Going to see what I can fit on Sunday onto tender feet, that will show possible problems more.
  5. The yoh is for I WANT.... :w00t: https://www.instagram.com/p/BMQLYOMhbt7/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BK-geuZAyJ8/ Wonder when the 3's land here, as well as when the Guide 10's land... Definately going for a fit in these. I see you can save a few rand on the 2's, especially that one colour. I just think the two hard parts on the sides in the 3, maybe more comfortable than the 3 ties in the 2's. But only a fit will tell. Spoke to the LRS where I got the brooks from, I don't understand why nobody likes the New balances as well, SBR also. Then you get the Mizuno recommendations, whilst I cannot understand that as well. They feel like you have two planks tied to your feet.
  6. Triumph ISO 3. Yoh yoh yoh..... One potential problem, how do I go about my ghosts that is lets say halfway done now, 12mm heel to toe, by adding a Saucony now, which sits at 8mm heel to toe and then altering between them? I presume that is not recommended, or what is the max difference that one would look at. My wife is in Brooks Ravenna, for that slight support. She overpronates a bit and is unstable in the process of doing so, if that makes sense. But her feet looks worse than with the Nikes before (blisters on the side of the foot, toes and black to nails) I think the Brooks might be to narrow, she has wide feet. Also going to look at Saucony guide and the New Balance 860V7. She does not have any hasstles with her New Balance Trail shoes, nice and wide.
  7. I come from Nikes that was 12mm, thus the drop would'nt affect me yes... Maybe the Saucony's was just a half size too small. I will definately give them a look as well next time (which is VERY soon)
  8. That is weird, the Saucony's felt narrower than the Ghosts for me again. Will definately check them out as well next time, but the changes from model to model would not work for me as well
  9. I see a lot of good reviews on the Saucony's. You happy with yours and how do they look for milleage? I fitted a pair and the only thing that bothered is they felt very narrow. I'm just over 400km's on my Brooks Ghost 9's and being my first set it is difficult to judge what is left, but I doubt they will see 1,000km's.
  10. Running categories... Seems they changed somewhere, not that I knew what the old ones was, but the people running the clubs here is even not sure what is what and it seems I'm struggling with my google skills. What is the different age categories and is it the same for road and trail?
  11. Thanks Pieter. Is it just on my side that the preious years is not working? Not Found The requested URL /Donstrainingprog2015.htm was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
  12. Glad to see there is other guys here as well, who's marathon times does not start with a 3 Great going guys, our turn is this weekend and I have absolutely no idea what to expect as this will be a first for us beyond 33km. Btw, this is a husband and wife effort. Comrades is actually her life long dream, so I commited with her and run with her. Also well done Lexx, that is seriously well done even with the setbacks. Jumping the gun a bit, but how does the training look from next week onwards? Our next marathon is end of January. Now I understand the importance of rest, but I don't want to get behind now. I would rather gradually build up, seeing that we have time on our side. My wife is also still struggling a lot with her fitness (pregnancies seems to take their toll), so I would rather use the time to slowly build her up, than lay off for a month. Just take it easier. Oh, also paid our Mango flights this morning for OMTOM. R4,600 for the two of us and the two kids, Bfn - CT and back, nice long weekend...
  13. Record breaking 150 ultra entries left for OMTOM....
  14. Not even Garmin SA can help me with this. The claimed hours on a watch, is that the time with HRM enabled? Meaning, will you get more than the claimed hours if you do not use the HRM, or is that the max hours you will get out of it with HRM and everthing else disabled that can be disabled. My bet is the latter...
  15. Is that not the one where you want to have one on? To be able to see your heart rate if something might go terribly wrong, to know what the heart situation is at least. Well, perhaps not you racing snake guys, but the rest of us? lol
  16. +1, I don't even know I have mine on, it does not bother at all. Not the new soft garmin strap, but even the old bigger plastic version of garmin did not bother me at all as well...
  17. Same thing here, almost died on a 21km's this Saturday.... Friday night 23:38 it was 29 degrees and on our way to the race 05:22 it was still 24 degrees. If this is the case next saturday for our qualifying, I'm not sure how much fun that marafun is going to be!
  18. And yet here some of us noobs sit and will be happy if we can just make the 5 hours qualifying time next weekend! Nice one SwissVan, even if it is not nice for you!
  19. I'll have to measure at home tonight, but I guess its about 150, it's not 200. This one also has a hard pipe inner and the 1.5-2cm softer outside.
  20. Qualifying marathon? Good luck SwissVan....
  21. Dischem has nice teal and purple foam rollers for under R200 http://dischem.co.za/product-view/65066/sportmate-foam-roller-purple-46cm
  22. Bragging like this is useless without pics, in fact it did'nt happen! Well done on the run!
  23. I'm looking at adding the Launch to my Ghost's. Let me know if you feel anything of that damm stitch in the inside of the front foot. Mine has been hurting me again the last two runs. Then it does nothing and then out of the blue it catches again. Time for that ducttape.....
  24. So I pulled the trigger on the Garmin 230 yesterday afternoon and just received the courier call to schedule delivery tommorrow. Just in time for the next 32km's on Saturday...
