  1. I currently run with Falke AR1 hidden socks. However I have a spot in my Brooks that irritates me and I have found that with thicker socks it is much better, to the extent that it is almost gone. I have found that my trail running falke's works great, but I'm just concerned that they might become a bit too hot (not sure I'm going to be able to get past this with thicker socks) and I also don't like the fact that they are not hidden but ankle lenght. Is there socks in the other brands that might be the ones that I'm looking for, as I can't find the right ones here... Or should I get the 1000 mile double layers?
  2. Our year started off different than planned, so we sticked to our training program and downscaled the 42 to a 21. It was a very nice weekend and a very nice race. The whole weekend was organised very very well. We had a bit of cold this weekend so after sunset there was a chilly breeze. It would've turned a bit cold for the guys (like we would've been) that was out late on the marathon route.
  3. Guide is their stability shoe. Ride and triumph is neutral
  4. Scott, would the Asics stability shoes not have been a better choice if you pronate a lot or why did you go the nimbus route? Anybody knows if you get the gt1000 and gt2000 also in wide fits? My wife is in NB light stability now and although she did not like the nimbus at all (I was also not fond of my cumulus AT ALL), she was mostly unhappy with the nimnus because the seams caught her little toes and the shoe was too narrow. Now they are also seamless and if they come in wide fit, perhaps the gt range is something to look into for her in the future? PS: This shoe question is for my wife, so it does not add to my at least half a dozen shoes questions right?
  5. I would also not do the jump too quickly. There is enought time!
  6. Those continental soles are hard, but those adidas don't come with thick soles, those are fantastic kms, but then again, 1000km on vomeros  You must be super light on shoes
  7. If my feedback or knowledge of a certain product can atleast point someone else in a direction, or show a possible problem and we can help save each other a lot of bucks, why not. These shoes are damm expensive these days, even on specials.
  8. The Brooks ghost 9's are on 600 now and they still look VERY good. Total guess, but I recon they will see 1,000. I will also report back.
  9. You might also be interested to know that Poobies does not have Saucony, not on their website atleast. My ghosts that they have, is not cheaper than what I can get elsewhere, the new colour. The old colour that's the one that I want, they do not have my size in stock. Sweatshop is R100 more expensive than what I paid for my saucony's. And sheatshop also does not have the old ghosts and are more expensive than what I can get here.
  10. You did see I live in Bloem and not Joburg right? And seeing that you do follow all my shoes posts, I guess you also saw that we started running last June when we decided we want to do Comrades this year. Yes, I do my homework BEFORE I go and fit all the shoes in a shop. I was very happy with my Pegasus, untill a leg asessment that I had to do in Sunninghill because I could do nothing with the one I had in Bloem, showed me that Nikes are too soft. Which propably contributed to the itb I picked up two years back. So I changed to Brooks Ghosts 9, which I love, apart for the irritation that I get, which I confirmed on the internet with others as well (as I am the only person in Bloem that I know of with them, so who should I check this with?). Apart from that I love them, but do I take another chance with them (being my first pair in my comrades and running jouney), with comrades 4 months away, or must I try something else and hopefully pick right? So I picked Saucony. Which is also very nice apart from early wear, which only time will tell how that will continue or not. But I want a cheaper trainer and recon I can keep the saucony's for long runs and marathons. As I don't want the most expensive if the milleage does not add up as well. And no, I did NOT pay R2,800 for them and please show me a pair of ISO 2's for R1,200 - R1,500. Keep in mind I live in Bloem and surely I need to fit the damm shoes before buying them. As I have never fitted Saucony's before, not even the ISO 3's that I did buy, as no one in bloem has them in stock on the shelves!!! So, I basicly have 3 ways to analize this. Read overseas reviews and opinions, trust the shoe salesman that wants to make the sale or trust LOCAL users opinions. So yes, I value opinions of local people that actually used them more than a salesman opinion. And yes, my questions are based on hearsay and reviews, what else should it be based on? Apart from buying and trying all the shoes I think might work? I don't have the money to try out everything and end up with a cupboard like Ferret ( No offense Ferret, I with I had! hehe) So if my shoe asking questions in a running thread on a cycling forum bothers you so much, put me on ignore. If they are out of line, report me to admin.
  11. Thanks guys for the honest asics replies, very interesting both ways. Still waiting ons Shaper to say what he was on about, but perhaps we should take it private. As I see he is under a wrong impression and no need to derail this.
  12. To the guys wearing Asics... Are you guys really still as happy with them and have you tried anything else recently? I hear a lot of stories that they chopped and changed between models the last while and when you go from a Nimbus 17 to 18, for example, there are quite some differences, so much that the guys don't like the new models? I almost get the feeling that the Asics = No1 is more a South African craze thing? We have tried the Nimbus and Cumulus in the past and I was'nt impressed, the milleage was not that great either. And all of this at R2,800 for the newest pair of Nimbus..... What am I missing or is it just me.

  14. Currently on them. I change them up every now and then. Then I also try to go without them if not need be and rather just go with saline spray. There is other brands as well, but these are the cheapies. I also keep OTC (cheap) Fenergan for when I need to dry up my nose quickly. 25mg makes me sleepy so I use that before bed or if I need to take one during the day, I use the 10mg. All of these I only use when neccesary.
  15. That or Allerway, or Loralex. There is a few similar.
  16. What I meant is the way I have it, you are looking for trouble at racing speeds going towards ultra distances for your first time at the increased mileages and frequencies. But I am no expert and talking from what I have read and be told.
  17. I am by no means the expert, but from what I have seen and been told... If this is your first time towards marathon/ultra and comrades? and that is your slower training speed? then that is propably your problem right there?
  18. I'd love to have a schedule where I can take a nap after ANY of my runs.
  19. Do you get a running shirt and pants with?
  20. Saline solution through the nose. Gargle with salt water. Andolex C for a sore throat. Echinaforce drops. Daily allergy tablets if need be, texa, allerway, ect. Or a Phenergan to dry up the nose. If I feel trouble on the horizon, I add Imuneace tablets for immune system. They help me a lot
