  1. Some very good advice here. But also remember to get yourself some decent shorts. I use good quality shorts that fit very well and thus far I have not had any problems with saddle sores.
  2. Hi Naas. Yes I know they are available but they don' fit on my crank. I spoke to Janos about it already. I have the XTR M970 crank. Those Wolftooth chainrings you guys sold me work brilliantly though. Not one issue thus far Bonus month can' come soon enough!!!
  3. Loved mine and miss them since I converted to 1 x 9. They are awesome for when you have to give short bursts of power in tight single track and on climbs. You really feel them working. I think a lot of people don't use them because you don't have that dead spot at the top of the pedal stroke and therefore your legs work harder and you get tired a bit quicker (or that is what I heard). For me though they had more advantage than disadvantages. If I had the money I would not think twice about getting myself a rotor crank that can fit a single narrow wide chainring.
  4. Its a speed LIMIT not a speed TARGET. I heard people say that cyclists does not belong on the road because they can't keep to the minimum speed limit. Well there is no minimum speed on roads unless specifically indicated by a sign. And I do agree with you. I feel safer when a motorist is forced to slow down and pass me than me riding on the edge of the road and they just speed pass me.
  5. Well if they were given to you then you should not pay anything for them........ Do you have any pictures of the wheels?
  6. I'm curious. Since we are not allowed to ride in bunches (abreast), how do you train to ride in bunches because being able to do that is a essential skill in road racing. If you are not able to do that then you are also a danger to the other riders in the bunch. I would also like to know how you guys feel about smaller road races that don't have full road closure. Do you feel that we are breaking the law then as well by riding in bunches and that we are a inconsiderate bunch of idiots keeping you up and causing all motorists to hate us even more? I might be wrong but I'm gona say that most of you crucifying these riders actions are mtb'ers and hardly ever ride on the road...........and if you do you will most probably be the guys that train alone.
  7. The doctors are the dangerous ones. You make them angry someone on the operating table might just die
  8. In the 10 years I have had my license I have probably waited behind a slow cyclist for a maximum of 20min IF not less. But people don't recognize that the time they spend behind a slower moving object is really not something to get upset about. Everyone is so caught up in the moment. My boss sometimes talks about the cyclist doing this and doing that, and I think he mostly does it to irritate me and I just say "ja" but the other day I started talking to him and I tried to explain to him why we ride the way we do and one thing is for sure. I cannot get a non cyclist to understand why we ride the way we do and that is why it is so dangerous for cyclists on the road. It's like explaining basic politics to Malema.
  9. But that will be the last place I want to troll.
  10. So tempted to go to a motorcycling forum and post this on their breakfast ride tread

I will slow down/stop and ask if the person is ok if it looks like a serious fall.(a fall other than someone falling over etc. because they rode to slow) If it's in a race and I see other people attending to the person then I don't stop. I'm not a doctor and won't be able to help the person any better than the persons already attending to him BUT I will tell the next marshal I see that there was a crash so that he can call for help if someone has not yet informed him. If I'm on a training ride then I will always stop and ask no matter how small your tumble was.

Did you read the last sentence in my post?

I got dropped by the bunch not long before that point. Burned energy I never had trying to catch them again. Needless to say I was so exhausted by that stage I was trying to wheelsuck even the slowest of riders and struggled to keep up

Yes........IF he did in fact bump the kid off his bike then I agree he should have stopped and asked if he is ok. But I have also seen new/inexperienced riders riding so slow in sections that looks a little "technical" that they fall over or off their bike and in that case you can call me an @$$hole but I'm not going to stop and take pity on you and tell you did well by trying and boosting your ego. If it looks like a serious fall then yes I will stop.

To add to this I also wonder if a brake lever that is more parallel to the handle bar will perhaps help. I wonder if this is possible with those adjustable brake levers.

No need to get aggressive. Like I said I don't condone/defend this type of riding. But please read the mother's report again. She does not say that someone pushed the boy. She simply says they rode him of the track. Now in my opinion this could have happened when they passed him and he could have caught a fright and fell off/over or there might have been some sort of contact/bump but none of this is confirmed in my opinion. I do agree that if this was a malicious attempt to push the rider off course then there should be disciplinary action against the rider even if it includes a ban of some sort. Again I just wonder if this whole event could have been avoided if the course was designed differently to perhaps keep the two distances separate. We always hear of fast riders being @$$hole$ in the view of the slower riders when in fact they might only be racing for a good time.

You will always have this problems on a lap race. It's like having a XCO Wold Cup race and deciding to run the under 12 age category on the same router on the same time. Do you really expect that the Nino Schurter and Julien Absalon racing for a win to slow down and wait for a nice wide jeep track before they pass a young rider. The mother's response is a typical response of someone not understanding the sport at the highest level. If they passed the mother and young rider on a jeep track going 20km/h faster than the slow rider then they will still be told they are inconsiderate and mal. If they are in a single track and they shout TRACK at slower traffic up front then they are inconsiderate and rude etc. There is a reason it's called a race and not a ride. The solution is simple though. Keep the shorter distances on a separate route or only start the shorter distance when the first 10-20 riders have started their second lap. I really feel sorry for the young man and I do hope that this incident won't cause him to not ride/race again. Speedy recovery PS. I do not condone the incident but I do understand why the top guys ride the way they do.
  18. The Hub ≠ Facebook
  19. I think Rouxtjie is one of the new Mods and his first task is to get more activity on the hub. Mission accomplished. I think Matt should give him his first promotion
  20. You forgot to put (194 posts to go) at the end there.
  21. Hahahaha. I wonder if Rouxtjie is regretting his OPINION about a 1000 posts yet. Damm it must be hard work to respond to every "noob" taking offence
  22. I think Rouxtjie's profile views went up by a 1000 since the start of this tread
  23. EISH!!! I need to get a spoke for my SLR wheel. Last time I broke one it cost my +-R135 for just the bladed spoke. Hope I can get some before the Trailseeker next week.
  24. If your wheel has the speed sensor and your cycle computer tracks the distance then you can upload it to Strava. Also you will see the option of selecting Stationary trainer on the upload page. Then it does not show your map, but still records time, distance, hr etc.
  25. The cyclist name was Shown Breytenbach. Was one of our club's members (TCS). The driver in the bakkie apparently passed vehicles in the yellow lane and that is when he hit Shown. RIP Shown
