  1. Works fine. Give that man a Bells!! or a fat shake Everyone re-posting their stuff may be a bit cumbersome and not in order, so I fear this thread will get really messy. Is it not easier to just ask Francios to add this link at the top of his very first post in this new thread with a little explanation?
  2. Hi Francios, Thanks for putting all the resource / info up there. Can I make a few suggestions / additions? Near the top where you say "the diet suggests eating high fat and low carbohydrate foods." , can you add "and moderate protein". Too many folk think this is a high protein diet and worry about the issues with high protein. To add to the shopping spots: In Cape Town, source of grass fed beef, organic eggs, raw milk, real cream, etc = Gogo's in Newlands. http://gogosdeli.wozaonline.co.za/home Under Twitter, possibly add: Jimmy Moore Diane Sanfillipo Dr John Briffa Dr Thomas Dayspring (cardiologist)
  3. Me neither. Will be a real shame if it' gone for good - LOTS of worthwhile info on those pages.
  4. I have a feeling that you may end up wasting your unlimited budget if you're not careful .... FIRST; Take your Madone for a proper bike setup with a pro (ergofit, BGFit, etc) and explain the back pain. If you still can't get pain free on your existing bike with the proper setup, THEN go shopping and find a bike with the perfect geometry for you. Take the geometry specs for the bikes you like to the setup specialist and ask him which will be the best one for you (all specs available on the www nowadays).
  5. I think that you may need a controlled study to try to prove a 'cause and effect' theory for this diet. The problem is that most folk who start following a strict diet also tend to get more serious about their training, sleeping, etc, so all those factors together are affecting their race times. Also, many people loose weight on the diet, and we all know about power to weight ratio. My personal experience is that this diet allows me to train and race harder and for longer without bonking, also recovery times are significantly better, so training is better and easier. In other words, it's not the diet that makes me faster, but it's an enabler to better training which makes me faster. Last 2 Argus times were 3:10, but looking at current performance I reckon I'll be 15 -20 min faster this year ... not exactly the 2:40 racing snake you were asking about, but gives you an idea.
  6. You may want to add this one to your list Swift Ultravox ... the Ti is the top of the range, see report below on the RS (one step down from the Ti). www.swiftcarbon.com http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/category/bikes/road/product/review-swift-carbon-rs-1-ultravox-12-46243 Bought a Ti recently and have fallen in love with being on the road again
  7. Im not sure that using a constant is really any different to mapping it on a BMI chart .... this is really just a simplified BMI calc. In any event, whichever maths you like to use I think the point that many others have made already is that these calculations will give an indication of performance at best - they are not pure science. For 99.9% of us the answer lies in training smart and eating right, not trying to chase a phantom number on a chart. Anyway, talking of chasing things ... it's lunchtime, so time to chase my shadow up to the blockhouse and try not to think how far I am from the magical "2"
  8. Ummm, excuse my ignorance, but is this formula not just another expression of BMI? BMI is weight (kg) divided by height (meters) squared. This formula is = weight(kg) x 2.2 / height(m) * 39.37, ... but ... weight (kg) x 2.2 = weight in pounds, and ... height (m) x 39.37 = height in inches .... so ... the formula is really ... weight divided by height ... same as BMI, just in imperial form. Or have I missed something?
  9. Hmmmm, having reached my 40's, the desire to impress seems to have evaporated .... fortunately the desire for speed has not
  10. Can you elaborate? I know it's lighter than Ultegra, but why "amazing"?
  11. Thanks for all the replies ... interesting that everyone has said "wheels".
  12. Looking for some opinions ... I'm in the process of buying / building a bike. The frame, bars, stem, saddle are all sorted, and my original idea was for Ultegra with Easton EA70 wheels, but it looks like I will be under budget ..... so ..... I can either upgrade to 10spd Dura-ace mechanical OR Ultegra electronic OR better wheels with the extra cash. Which to choose?
  13. "are the MTB size bomb thingies big enough to bomb a completely flat 29x2.2in tyre?" Yes. You can also get a bigger bomb nowadays (lezyne IIRC), but one regular sized one works for me. Also, I like tires at around 1.7 bar, you might need the bigger one for lots more pressure.
  14. Is Daryl Impy quicker than Robbie Hunter? I'm not denying he's a great rider, but you would have thought that with a flat road course for the olympics that a pure sprinter would have a better chance at a medal. Or have I missed something here?
  15. Yup, had the same issue. replaced batteries & re-paired belt to unit .... problem solved.
  16. Personally, I'd be happy to purchase anything that is a "low involvement" item from SW - i.e. anything that does not require much thought or products that I've used before and am simply replacing (tubes, gu, lube, branded clothing, etc). Anything where specialist knowledge is required, I'd head for my LBS. My experience of SW staff is that they have all the products but no idea how they work. For example, Id be happy to purchase a pair of First Ascent shorts there, but would never buy a Garmin unit from SW. I realise that SW are often cheaper than a specialist store, but the chance of getting the wrong thing is just too great. If you can get your staff to be more passionate about cycling, and knowledgable, then you will be on to a winner with the prices you are able to offer.

    Sani seeding 2012

Does anyone know when the seeding for Sani is usually available? Website still shows seeding for 2011 events.
  18. Assuming you're not going to be spending hours between waterstops, a bottle or two will be fine ...... BUT ...... I prefer a camelback for 2 reasons, 1. its easier *(and possibly safer) to drink while on the move, especially if you have other riders around you and want to keep hands on the bars as much as possible, and 2. I keep spares, etc in the camelback and easy to reach snacks in my shirt pocket. Downsides of a camelback: 1. it's hard to know exactly how much you've drunk 2. they take longer to refill than a water bottle - only really an issue for racing snakes.
  19. In Southern Suburbs, try the following For Scott. Crown cycles - they do not have regular demos but did organize a bike from Scott to ride as a demo Olympic cycles - will give you a demo but charge R500 for the pleasure of it. You get the R500 back if you buy from them. Paul is probably the best person to chat to there Epic cycles - speak to Lance. I insisted on a demo and he organized one from the agents. I eventually bought from him, In Somerset west, Cycle Addiction had demo bmc's when I last looked. Speak to Leon.
  20. My wife is a bit taller than you and has tried my 29'er but gone back to the 26'er. She says the 29er requires too much power on climbs and is difficult for her to control on the downhills ... her quote "feels like I have to work really hard to get it to go where it should". She's a weekend warrior, not a pro. Ride both if possible, but be aware that they are very different beasts and you may have to adjust your riding style. FWIW: I tried two 29HT before buying a 29ST .... don't believe anyone who tells you that a 29HT rides like a 29ST .... thats only true on the tar or very good gravel.
  21. Does anyone know if this facility is available in SA? Also, if it is and you've used it, I would love to hear some comments on the process and time taken to receive your bike.
  22. What is the attraction of a grip shift? Is it just a "feel" thing? Or are there benefits in terms of maintenance , weight, precision , etc?
  23. Thanks.
  24. So, does anyone know exactly which tires Sauser and Stander were using for the Epic? Obviously one from the Specialized range, but which ones?
