  1. Six weeks ago I succeeded in herniating two of the discs in my neck (C5-6 and C6-7 for the medically minded among you). Exactly how I managed this is a matter for another thread Anyway, after two weeks of trying to correct the problem conservatively the pain and loss of motor function in my left arm forced me to undergo surgery. A serious hospital bill later (thankfully taken care of by Discovery) and I am now the proud owner of a titanium plate and some screws at C5-6 (fusion) and a replacement disc at C6-7. I've been doing all the recommended exercises and am feeling pretty good four weeks after surgery. The strength in my arm has returned as has full functionality. My neurosurgeon told me to stay off my bike for three months so I will only be using the indoor trainer until then. Are there any other Hubbers who've had similar surgery and who have advice about do's and don'ts and getting started again?
  2. I did these on animals when I was at vasity using a biopsy trokar I got from the sports science lab...
  3. What sad news! Rodney always helped me at CL. What a good guy. Heartfelt sympathies to his family. What happened to him?
  4. Yep, get confident on the bike you have. Once you transition to the better bike you will enjoy it just that much more. Welcome to The Hub and happy riding.
  5. Certainly with long distance MTBiking, the constant climbing, slowing and accelerating takes less energy with lighter wheels. If I was a roadie I would have said that the STs look better too
  6. Thanks for the comments everyone, the insights are much appreciated. Am going to go wth the ST's I think. Weight and durability seem to to be tops . And I really want to experience the warping of space-time over those 2cm drop-offs Now to get the additional pay-in past the wife...
  7. 200g will make a big difference in respect of additional rotational weight. Slower acceleration, cornering etc, especially on a 29er. But I take your point too :-), although at 187cm I can't do too much about it
  8. Thanks Gummi, 1600g is a lot less than 1800 (the Syncros).
  9. Hi Hubbers I managed to pull the wool over my wife's eyes long enough to get her to agree to me buying a new bike . I'm going for the Scott Spark 910 and am considering changing the stock Syncros wheels for Mavic Crossmax ST's. Not sure this is necessary though - can anyone advise me on the Syncros wheels? Would I benefit significantly with the Mavic's? The specs: Syncros XR2.0 rims with DT Swiss Aero Comp spokes and Syncros XR2.0 CL / 12 x 142 / RWS hub (made by DT Swiss). I weigh 90kgs and do exclusively cross-country/marathons. Any advice would be appreciated.
  10. The situation isn't funny but your comment is both true and hilarious. Haven't had such a good laugh in a while :-D
  11. Spare a thought for the people (who knows how many) who, upon seeing this thread, rushed to their Pinarellos, palms sweating, hearts racing and with a sense of impending doom turned their prized steeds over only to confirm their worst nightmare... no official serial number. That would ruin my year and I would not wish such a thing on my worst enemy. I would be nuclear by now if I was Andrew.
  12. I put it to you... this response is an insult to all your customers - a good number of whom have contributed to- and/or viewed this thread. Selling counterfeit goods is illegal - and no amount of lawyer-speak will change that. I for one will not support your business again.
  13. Would like to see a response from the shop on this - very soon. Any future purchases from me will depend on it. Oh, and the negative comments to the OP are pure douchebaggery.
  14. I had a technical 40K's into the first day (Friday) which prevented me from finishing the stage. After taking my bike home and sorting the problem I called Rob (the race director/owner) to see if he would change my entry to a two day entry, that way I'd at least get a time if I finished day 2 and 3. "Nope - DNF, but come out and ride and have some fun anyway" I don't think I'll be back to ride it next year.
  15. I've been exploring there too and have a couple of GPX files to share. On today's ride though I went past a group of riders who had stopped on the trail. I greeted them as I rode past (I was alone) and heard one of them yell after me that he hopes "I have an Uzi in that backpack". This immediately made me nervous as the routes do go through some areas with high foot-traffic of the affirmatively disadvantaged. is it safe to ride in that area alone? I know that the route from Chartwell to Northern Farm is a no-no. below is the route I did this morning.
  16. I'm interested too, maybe combine the Lanseria loop and Muldersdrift? Any advice on security on those trails?

    Argus MTB

New venue? Do you know the details? I wasn't planning to enter this year as I am also tired of the vinyard zig-zaging and especially after the experience of the last 10kms of last years 75km route.
  18. My contribution to this fine thread.
  19. I'm bringing my Fiancé. I don't think we plan on breaking any speed records. I'd say the more people the better. Bring everyone you can.
  20. 10am is right around the time I would be in that vicinity anyway at the end of my usual ride. See you all there.
