  1. Um, dude, seriously? Did you not read the post directed at me? And my reference to my "BS" is called aggressive? Although, in saying that, I don't think you are following the conversation correctly. It should be apparent to anyone who was who my reference to "my BS" was directed at. If I am stating fact it can't be referred to as BS! No, I'm not at all. I'm correcting blatant inaccuracies in someone's argument against cellphones. We are not talking about the person who said that's phone. We are recommending for the OP. If he were to get a phone he'll now know to look out for one with a screen that IS visible in direct sunlight and one that can use a bluetooth HRM (although I'd assume that is most smartphones currently).
  2. Oh, by the way, just to share more apparent BS.... I have a bluetooth polar HRM that I use with my Nokia N8. It works with both Endomondo and Sportstracker, and no doubt others. I also have little problem reading the screen in direct sunlight and it is not even one of the latest "Super" AMOLED or "Pure Black" screens on the market.
  3. So my opinion does not agree with yours so it's automatically BS? Says more about you than it does about me... You also appear to make the shockingly self centred assumption that we all have the exact same needs as you.
  4. It's Virginia Farm in KZN. Sorry but still not a fan of these "Instagram" photos. They have started to ruin reality. Someone takes a great realistic sunset photo now and it looks boring because people have become used to seeing this overprocessed iPhone crap.
  5. Perhaps some of us don't crash nearly as often as others appear to. And I'm interested in finding out why GPS units are immune to damage when wiping?
  6. All that is wonderful but the OP asked for "something fairly easy to use and can indicate speed, distance, time, profile of your ride" Phone - check! Great, just under the price of my entire bike. Think I'd rather get me a second bike thanks. Ah, an image boy.... I think you'll find we covered this already.... most of us prefer to have our phones on us as it is so why not use it.
  7. What bothers me more is the fact that the folk doing this bike jacking are very unlikely to know that they are better off not bike jacking me and rather waiting for the next guy to come along!
  8. My thoughts precisely. I've got my phone on me anyway.
  9. No, let's be a little more anal for a while shall we?! The actual wording was: "So if you have a phone that's capable, like an iPhone or Android, you can do this very cheaply." One could assume that the implication was that it was only these two device types that were capable. I felt the desire to clarify the situation. Perhaps you need to chill as it was you who seemed to take major offence to me doing so!
  10. Where was the point made? Are your referring to the BB/iPhone thread? In that case are you telling me forum rules dictate that once you have said something on a subejct in one thread you may not ever do so again in another thread? Wow, that is interesting. The comment above illustrates my point raised in that other thread perfectly, don't you think....
  11. I say I'm out regarding this topic and yet folk like you just keep coming back for more... one has to question who in fact does not have the decency here?!
  12. I rode this weekend with a friend with a Garmin GPS unit on their bike. We did a shortish ride but they registered 21.2km, I registered 21.5 on my phone using Sports Tracker. I'm sure for most normal humans this would be a perfectly acceptable margin.
  13. ...or a symbian device or a windows phone device! But I agree, save some money and just get a phone that has a decent GPS chip. Most new smartphones do.
  14. Fair enough, however, if I may just quote the very first post that started this thread : Perhaps it would have been wiser starting another for pure condolences. I'm out now.
  15. Possibly boils down to the distinction between advice and providing factual information.
  16. Again with all due respect to the deceased and his family... Have you got a link to the family wishes in this regard or is this also speculating? My view is that allowing people to speculate just makes things worse. If he killed himself then just be out with it and get it over and done with. It is going to get out eventually any way.
  17. Not sure how mentioning either of those will help? FICA is the financial intelligence centre act and was implemented to assist in preventing money laundering. FAIS is the financial advisory and intermediary services act and it is very unlikely that the attorney would be bound by this either. He was unlikely to have provided advice to the client and merely facilitated the process. 18. Condolences. But, guys, seriously, all these comments about not discussing it and keeping it to condolences only?! Is that not what a forum is about? To share information and chat. Are we applying a self imposed government "secrecy bill"?
  19. Another chance for those with expensive bikes to show off.... I see a few of comments about it being worth it for the smiles, laughs and enjoyment. I've said it before but I'll say it again, I'm sure those on cheaper bikes are having just as much fun and enjoyment. I know I am! I also reckon average road cyclists push far more km than the average mountain bikers so perhaps a cost per hour would be more accurate an assessment. And would also account for those who ride slower
  20. I refrained from responding to his initial comments but seeing as though you +1'ed it I'll take the bait. My understanding is that a more expensive helmet usually means a lighter one, not safer one. http://www.bhsi.org/testbycost.htm
  21. This is just an opinion, but I'm sure I've heard it mentioned somewhere before, but I have an idea that this lack of impact is sometimes the precise thing that causes issues. Again no scienitific substantiation here but I was under the impression that human bones need a degree of impact to strengthen. Total lack of any impact has an affect on bone density. It is for this reason that running can benefit cyclists. Cycling is a low impact sport. Trail running will also strenghten your ankles over time. This is a part of the body that is "fixed" while cycling so gets little working over. Feel free to correct these comments with science if necessary.
  22. It is strange, and annoying. It always seems to me that some folk have spent a fortune on all their goodies and gadgets so they feel obligated to insist everyone else spends a fortune too. I see it when someone asks about getting into mountain biking. Virtually every time they are advised that they'll need to spend a large portion of their budget on fancy helmets, cleats, shoes, full cycling kit blah blah blah. What the hell happened to just getting a bike, a cheap helmet, putting on takkies and shorts, hopping on, riding and enjoying it? Hell, if the bug bites then it is easy to get that fancy helmet, change to clipless pedals, buy yourself expensive shoes, upgrade that fork, buy the "latest and greatest" gloves and bib shorts. Far too much peer pressure wafting around the MTB world...
  23. 'The watchdog ruled it was “likely to cause serious offence”.' To fat, unattractive women no doubt!
  24. The WTF sign is easy, just shake your head repeatedly and roll your eyes while looking in the person's direction? EDIT : Although in truth that is more akin to "you are a bloody idiot but I'm sure you don't even know it"
  25. Even more "concerning" is the performance by Burden. Perhaps not yet a shoe in for Bismarck with Smit gone. Still reckon there is a major problem with the laws of rugby at the moment. Defense is being rewarded too heavily and it is in their best interests for a team not to have the ball. This reared it's head when the Boks got knocked out of the world cup after having 60%+ possession and has been shown repeatedly in Super Rugby. Last week when the Sharks were all over the opposition, they lost. This week they fed off scraps and intercepts and won. The Stormers are leading the table due in no small part to their exceptional defensive efforts. You get penalised repeatedly when attacking. The defensive team just needs to hold strong and they'll get a penalty. The powers that be are slowly turning rugby union into league... no doubt the Aussies and Kiwis see no problem with this. I hate league.
