  1. My 12th one but the first time riding this route, extremely well organized and roads were well marked and safe as far as I could see. Definitely a route to leave something in the tank for the last half! Well done to all organizers and cyclists.
  2. Always take your own anyway, you’ll be back on the bike sooner. Enjoy it and have fun!
  3. Literally paid one of these stores 3k to wash my bike. Never and NEVER again.
  4. Seems like quite a few for transfer on the cradle group on Facebook...
  5. “Good morning The 1st batch Start for Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg is delayed by an hour due to lightning and flooding risk. Safety personnel to reassess at 7:30 and communicate again. All participants should stay in vehicles and all staff to stay under marquee tents. Team Ride Joburg” Hard pass for me
  6. Thanks for the suggestion and to @JMK1 who sorted my gears out in no time and had some good suggestions for the bike going forward, which I look forward to taking him up on!
  7. Please can you guys point me in the direction of a bike shop that really know how to service Campy. I bought a bike recently with a 10 speed Chorus groupset and it needs a basic service and check. The guys I just took it to actually made the gears worse, not here to name and shame I know everyone is super busy at the moment and probably taking on more repairs than they can manage properly - just want to get it sorted properly. JHB or PTA. Thanks!
  8. Go for it, they reseeded me and my last 947 was 2015. Was pushed up from 8:30 to 7:25 based on previous times.
  9. As far as I can tell the only way to get people to enter more road races is to get more people to actually ride on the road. In order to do a race event you need to train and as you said, the roads are a disaster and unsafe. I recently bought a road bike again after 7 years after taking up MTB but I already know the only time it will be used is in the Cradle, on a trainer and events like 947. Its a pity because there were some really good road events like the Telkom Satellite Challenge, Race for victory, Dome 2 dome, Ride for sight, Bakwena Challenge etc. that were well worth doing in my opinion. Not sure which of those are even around still or what they're like now.
  10. They were pretty quick with me, moved up from EE to N. I contacted them via Whatsapp.
  11. This was at Buffelsdrift, their trails are generally very well marked but this one had me at 50/50 guessing.
  12. I've never ridden the same route at Wolwespruit twice 😂
  13. What's your inseam measurement, that's more of an important question? I'm 1.85m and ride a 56cm frame. Agree with Mongooseman and also prefer slightly smaller as opposed to big.
  14. So I have a question, not sure if anyone knows the answer. I haven't done a 947 road race since 2015. I have done 11 of them previously but been doing mainly MTB and did the 947 55km one in 2019. I've registered to do it this year but because I haven't done it in few years will I be starting at 10:00 with the newbies or will my previous ones carry some weight at least? Not looking for a super early start but right at the back can be a bit of a nightmare.
  15. Friend of mine bought one a few months ago, his came with x-fusion so maybe they changed the spec. Didn't know SX was so ***. Interesting.
  16. Brand new Titan Cypher would be my choice.
  17. No the big elephant is, “sure leave your bike with us, we’ll charge you for parts that we don’t replace and not fix the bike properly.” Don’t put the blame on me, the client here. I’ve paid a lot of money in good faith actually.
  18. They literally charged me to replace parts they didn't replace. If they couldn't do the job they should have said so in the first place, that's on them. They certainly didn't do me any favors by taking my business.
  19. Thanks man, I've lost faith more and more in bike shops over the years. I understand completely why people give up and equip themselves to do it eventually!
  20. I'm seriously looking at this, does it mean having to change hubs as well?
  21. So should work with the 10 speed as well? The chain and cassette are new, chainring is toast judging by the comments. Just amazes me that two bike shops couldn't pick this up each after doing a major service
  22. I think you guys have helped me figure out the problem here, I had a close look at the chainring and FD. Is it possible that the derailleur is not necessarily too high but the chainring is too small? The derailleur SLX FD-M660E is supposed to work off a 44 chainring and the one I have is a 40. That derailleur is also only supposed to be for 9 speed from what I can see and mine is 10?
  23. For those who asked, this is the famous chainring. Looks pretty worn to me but I'm no mechanic? Its a Scott Spark 960 by the way, 2014/2015 model I suspect. Excuse the dirty bike.
  24. Ok cool. will do - thanks
  25. They haven't been changed they did tell me they checked them though. For what that's worth anyway.
