  1. ACM well put. It's a nice way from SASCOC to make people hate them, Mandela and the Sabie X ... if even just a little.
  2. The guy I took a ride with down the mountain yesterday reckoned that they (the organizers) will pass on any and all claims straight to CSA, who will pass it straight up to SACOC. What happens from there will have to be seen. Submit claims if you want, I was very very pissed with the cancellation (even though I would not have been able to ride due to being sick)
  3. Ha, stomach bug my ass. It turns out to be food poisoning, booked of for a week with a ton of meds. Doc reckons I can be glad I'm fit otherwise I would've killed myself yesterday ... ha at least it would've been with a smile. Damn that place is beautifull!
  4. Nice meeting RiverRat, sorry I normally talk your ears off but I was feeling really, errr, shitty. Stomach bug just threw me to the ground, still climbed up past Mamba today, up to the second water point but was getting close to fainting at points so packed it in. Would not have made cutoff in any case. Maybe next year as well ....
  5. Just waiting for my ride - he should be here any minute now. Cannot wait! From blegh on not finding a partner 5 months ago, to planning a nice long base ride for this weekend on Manday, to getting two free solo entries on Tuesday! Epic. (Yes I just went there)
  6. My balls just shrunk thinking about a wet Mamba ....
  7. Email from Sandy at the race office:
  8. ok pasting this doesn't work. Here's the link: http://www.yr.no/place/South_Africa/Mpumalanga/Sabie/long.html Heavy rain today and tomorrow, light rain Saturday, some sun Sunday and rain on Monday. Well ****. Email from Dennis (Route director) a couple of minutes ago: Cool. Bring mud tyres and mudguards!!! Looks like we may get some sun tomorrow. Kind regards Dennis Lawrie Forest Ventures
  9. Actually, you can't hear it over the sounds of the Landy breaking. There's no way anyone can push a Land Rover fast enough to create wind, never mind dust. *You know there's no such thing as a Land Rover joke, it's all true
  10. It's been wet for a week. It's gonna stay wet for the weekend - fortuantely not buckets, but still wet enough to make it even tougher. F that and a bag of chips.
  11. Just received two solo entries from guys that cannot go anymore. How's that for excitement! See you all there (and the other entry is already with a mate of mine, before you ask)
  12. Nope, f-all.
  13. You're all talking about different things here: Muscular endurance Aerobic endurance/fitness Strength (endurance?) You need to build your basic abilites: Muscular Force Aerobic Endurance Speed Skill These are the building blocks of any type of training/fitness program. If you neglect these, you cannot build the 'higher abilites', the ones that are a combination of the basics: MF and AE creates Muscular Endurance (the stuff that makes you a climbing monster) AE and SS creates Anaerobic endurance - think more than max effort over a few kilometers. SS and MF creates sprint power - think Sprinting with the volume at 11 and distance of two city blocks Either find yourself a trainer that know his stuff and let him/her create a training plan for you, or do a lot of research. I suggest reading up what Joe Friel writes, and get one or two of his books. Mountain Bikers training bible gives a very good level of understanding of what makes up fitness and also helps you create a proper training plan.
  14. It's all about the Benjamins. Or Randelas. It does not matter if you have sponsor paying, for example, the cost of your medals, that just means you can put more money in your pocket at the end of the day (as an organiser) Also keep in mind the much bigger numbers running has traditionally had and still have compared to cycling events.
  15. Critical Mass Ramsgate!
  16. Stick to my pretty well-thought through training plan - 500 hours on the bike. Top 50 in the Nissan Series Maybe Three Towers if I can find budget and time. It's going to be a hectic year work-wise though
  17. Armpies has it spot on - IMNSHO
  18. And pisses in teh ocean
  19. Thanks Octavian, I have plenty spades and shovels and trail picks and bospikke. I've done more than my share of building thigs, but will continue to build and fix.
  20. When the municipality digs, look for gap jumps! Life and lemons and all that .... there was this sweeeet jump in Duncan Street, took met forever to build up the courage to try it. Did it the one tuesday morning, barely cleared it, that afternoon it was filled back up
  21. Nice couch. Is it real leather? LOVE the bike, apt name methinks.
  22. Sorry just a (tongue in cheek) dig at people thinking that downhill is the only 'true mountain biking' The mats look awesome, and I'm sure that if Pretoria ever pulls it's collective finger out of it's collective arse and fix Klapperkop and/or 139, we'd use those all the time. Klapperkop has so much potential for a rad downhill track, there's one spot that I keep riding past thinking "road gaaaaaaap" .... For now, however, we stick to being "dirt roadies" ...
  23. Fixed.
  24. So who 'really' screwed up your brakes then?
  25. Hey OneTime, it was in jest. It was better than posting my original thoughts, which was "Oh no not another effing thread about a LBS that has to deal with crap components, shitty parts delivery, irrational customers and one-sided complaints" Hope your brakes gets sorted.
