  1. Delivery vans and Putco/North Star busses are the bane of commuters in Pretoria. I give them a wide berth nowadays ... have had too many close calls.
  2. Sounds dirty or pitted or worn out stanchions ... How old is it?
  3. Had a fantastic weekend with the group I took their, but opted not to race on Sunday. It's an expensive lesson to learn that mud breaks things ... I've done that a few times. I would actually still have done it if I had the money to replace chain, casette and brake pads twice this month (after Dullstroom) Thanks for the T-shirt as well as the awesome goody bags! Was great!
  4. And it's not Boys High ... it's a t the Pretoria Boys High old School Club in Queens Crescent, Lynnwood. Check the page for info / directions.
  5. freddie@maniyakcycles.co.za It's actually a Scott. Ridiculous. He was part of my crew for the tour we did to sabie .... awesome. And he hasn't been training for months now maybe one ride a week ... you have NO idea how strong this guy really is. He is however getting back into teh game this year ... one to watch 'rise out of nowhere'
  6. We still have a spot or two open on the Maniyak bus - R1200 per person, camping (own tents), food and transport included, as well as bike wash in Pta on Monday
  7. Ha ha Francois I always check my rides after near missed. This one is damn impressive though, mine normally just does a 145-160 or so Maybe I'm just too used to it by now ...
  8. Just looked at your ride - jissis heart rate spike from 120 to 181 ....
  9. Agteros, for clarification, that path is 500m from my office. I used it every day in high school (on my bicycle) to get to school and back. It is CLEARLY marked by signs at most intersections as dual use - bicycles and pedestrians. Francois, heal up brother. Swing by for a coffee sometime
  10. Really? Sorry, but I LOLed.
  11. Sorry Scott, I, of course, assumed that you were speeding thus the shouting at the guy in the track. Heal up bro.
  12. Sorry to say this to a fellow commuter, but this is neither Strava nor Sparta nor the MTN Nationals/Trailseeker/Babbas race. Should've used the brakes instead of the voice box ... Yes, i know it's Friday, so swing the handbags if you like. :D
  13. 25 minutes is good for a first rodgering!
  14. We (The Jeep Club of SA) had plenty deep pockets, backed by Jeep. The whole area (the koppie) has been zoned as a green belt WITH provisions that it may be used at a later date (cannot remember year) for development. There's your answer ... they gonna sell it and make a killing sometime in the distant future. There were a few of those pieces of land around - the other one is on the other side of the highway, in the north-east corner of the N1 and R21 ... that's been sold off, BUT the part that has not been fenced off and developed is still open for recreational development. But you are going to need DEEEEEEEEP pockets for that one.
  15. Plenty parking at the shop. Still waiting to hear if I'm working on Sat or not, but the ride is on regadless (I'm just a plodalong )
  16. It belongs to the municipality. We wanted to formalize a 4x4 track etc there - they were not interested.
  17. I'm going to put up a refreshment stand on the Sabie Ultra route, just after the waterpoint. R50 a Castle Lite.
  18. Maniyak Cycles are offering tours to this event from Pretoria. For R1200 per person you get transport there and back (Leave on Friday afternoon, come back Sunday afternoon) with accommodation at Sabie River Camp (bring your own camping kit) and all meals included - 2 dinners, two breakfasts and 2 lunches. Also included is a free bike wash and lube service after we come back. Pick up and drop off is at Maniyak Cycles in Braam Pretorius street, Magalieskruin (near Kollonade) Hurry, limited spots left!
  19. Aah sorry guys just been informed that the early birds have gotten all the worms. Price for Sabie weekend is R1200 per person.
  20. That's probably one of the worst place in Pretoria to ride. We used to go there with Jeeps, but stopped that about 5 years ago. As said, lots of dodgies staying in the bushes at the bottom.
  21. Anyone welcome - both at group rides as well as sabie Normal group ride goes north of Pretoria, the slower group does between 30 and 45km at a pace of well below 20km/h and the other group goes anything between 40km and 60km at a pace of around 20-22km/h. It's largely dictated by the group before the ride, dependent on what training everyone wants/needs. Sabie pace is 'go till you blow'
  23. Ok just got an update on WhatsApp - Saturday is 'normal' group ride from the shop at 05:30, back at the shop at 08:30-09:00, two groups (slow and fast) both are non-drop rides (ie slowest dictates pace) Sunday the roadies are going to play on Klapperkop, so no Cullinan or Harties rides Ride also leaves from the shop, not sure of time. Weekend after that we're going to Sabie for the MTN races.
  24. I stay in Queenswood, so leave at 4 to go around the mountain to get to Maniyak's shop. From end Feb start moves 30 minutes later
  25. That's us
