  1. I enjoy my thudbuster, works like a charm, especially on corrugated roads. You should learn to stand more on your bike, not just for comfort, but it also helps with control of your bike
  2. We took a ride down the Henderson 60km route today to check the route. There is a minor change in the 60km, that will shorten it a bit, but cuts out the steep stoney uphill on the farm Glacis. Instead of riding to the turnpoint on Glacis on the gravel road, the 60 will turn up into the mountain at the first farmstead on the road after the Thomas River bridge. Here's the map, the new route is blue Then some Pics from this mornings ride

  8. One more gadget. My wife calls me the gadget man, because there's a gadget for every problem, what she doesn't know is that they are essential tools.
  9. My thinking is that MTB in particular is a world apart from marathon running. When I ran marathons it was a pretty constant exertion over the course of 3hrs, or 4hrs, whereas MTB is a series of periods of intense exertion inter-spaced with periods of recovery, or lesser exertion, so you should adjust your carb consumption accordingly. And what that means, I'm not quite sure
  10. Simple way is to put a straight line(straight plank or similar) against your fork and align your handlebars with that. It's as accurate and R1000 cheaper.
  11. I find Thomas River to be harder. I like the 60km ride, rather a lot of gravel, but would be killer if there was less due to the terrain. I'm only doing the 40 this year.
  12. No you thinking of Thomas River, it's in the beginning of November. This race starts and ends at the Ferndale Farm campsite, also on the Thomas River, but lower down. Ja ja, you must let me know when you can ride, and I'll tell you if I can make it. Got a lekker track that partially follows Stutt, in reverse, and ends with a lekker gravel road downhill, sort of.
  13. 8th June 2014 Cathcart Hi All, Only two weeks to go and we are building up for the best Henderson Valley ever! Just ridden the first half of the course and It’s an absolute wow! (would you believe it but it’s the first time I’ve had a chance to ride more than a bit here and a bit there). The grass has been mown and we have a strong north west wind to blow all the grass away so that it won’t get in your derailleur! For those who are looking for accommodation please check the website. Yellowfish Lodge, Openside, and Ferndale are fully booked but as of now there is still accommodation available at the rest. The road is always a worry and the road from Stutt side has been graded and reasonable except for the first 5kms which is bad. If your car is at all low rather use an extra litre and come round Cathcart. That road is about as good as a gravel road can get but if you are coming out on the morning of the race please have your dark glasses handy as you will be travelling into the rising sun which can be blinding. So travel safely and we are really looking forward to seeing you all!!
