  1. Me too. Illness last year, elective this year. Damn I wish the year had panned out differently.
  2. Sorry, I'm joking. I'm in love with Campagnolo since my switch a few years ago (Ultegra -> Record 11). There are just far too many people selling "Campagnola" parts on the Hub/Gumtree etc...
  3. You guys have got this all wrong. Its definitely spelled Campagnola.
  4. Heavens above, that is a good looking bike.
  5. The problem is that the scratches can be below the dust wipers on the stanchion tube. So you cant see it overtly until you take it for a service and get a nasty phone call. Rather just do the maintenance, it works out much cheaper in the end.
  6. One of the best cycling purchases I have made this year (or ever for that matter):
  7. Love spending time on my bike. Much easier to do when its raining outside. And the feeling you get when you ride it again, and everything works perfectly.
  8. It might help a bit, but unfortunately the damage is already done. The oil is constantly gonna seep from those scratches. What he's saying is if (when) you replace your fork, change the stock seals for enduro ones.
  9. Unfortunately, that is going to be an expensive fix. Take it to your local shop/suspension guy, but the stanchion scratches probably means new stanchions/crown/steerer assembly needed (which is gonna be > R2500). Probably best to start looking for a replacement fork, or just to top it up with oil, and ride it until is breaks (and catastrophic failure is unlikely).
  10. The backpack unfolds and converts into this: Nifty idea I think, but it's not cheap. R22k at current exchange rates (1499 Euro)
  11. You'll probably have more luck in the classifieds.
  12. Just be sure to use carbon paste or another appropriate grease/lubricant (hubbers can help out here), to prevent the carbon bonding to the aluminium. I have personally had this issue before and it can be a nightmare to fix. Maybe have a Google around alu and carbon seatposts, I'm sure there will be enough appropriate information there.
  13. I disagree. It is not a terribly complicated thing to do. Just arm yourself with a bit of information and have an attempt yourself. The likelihood of doing serious damage is negligible to zero. You'll learn a useful skill, save yourself a bit of cash and sort out your bike. Win win win.
  14. The limit screws are not what control the inter-cog changing. They simply control the upper and lower limit of the derailleur when shifting. The finer details are made by adjusting cable tension using the little barrel adjuster (located either just after the shifter on the cable, or at the derailleur itself). This causes micro-changes in cable tension and thus affects the position of the derailleur with each shift. Considering you've adjusted the limit screw, and thus probably ruined the whole back setup of the gearing, just use this youtube video to start a setup from the beginning: Edit: added link
  15. Short stem and wide bars. Cost me a total of R350 if I remember correctly. Totally transformed the handling of my MTB.
  16. The first 30km are pretty flat, so I'm hoping to put some time in the bank over that first distance. 4:45ish pace to put 30s per km into the bank for chappies and hout bay. I ran the last 6km from the top of Constantia in 30mins last year so I'm hoping for that finish line fever to kick in again.

    Nipples

Quick question: in a wheel with j bend spokes, is a nipple is a nipple is a nipple? Or are there fine nuances that I'm not aware of.
  18. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s99QFe6htJ4 I think that these new engines sound amazing. The over-run on some of these is spine-tingling.
  19. Double post.
  20. One of the most amazing experiences is chappies, the pitter patter of runners and heavy breathing. Plus the view is not too bad either. I'm with you, one of the best spots in the marathon.
  21. Silver is 90 mins right? That's a nice goal to aim for. The extra gap between argus and oceans is nice for that final training push. You doing any speed work yet? Or that destined for that gap?
  22. 88 mins is properly quick. Speed work essential. What is that, 4:05ish/km? Are you gonna do Peninsula 21km?
  23. Nice. Good to see that the memory is still working. I love that route, rode it a couple of times whilst I was in Jozi in Dec, gruelling climb up to the Water Tower. Great for hill repeats.
  24. I'll start: I am running the 56km, hoping for a time of <5 hours (Sainsbury medal). Last year, I ran 05:47, on minimal training, and have decided to give it a real go this year. I'm using Peninsula marathon as both my qualifier and my first long run.
  25. Right. It's 81 days to go. I have just signed up for my second Ultra. Feeling a bit nervous, but the training is going well. So, I want to hear: What are you running (fun run, 21km, 56km ,trail run)? What are your goals? Any training tips, and racing tips? I'm looking forward to this event, and I daresay other hubbers are as well.
