  1. So its finished, seems I just missed out. Glad Bernie Made it as his spirit not focusing just riding as he felt and going to church every sunday really impressed me. Pity the calories category seems to be more about what machine you used or if you can benifit from group rides to get high readings. I broke a GPS and my other one gave me 30% more for similar rides and it seems some people are burning incredible amounts of calories on simple rides.
  2. But he rides them with a Maverick SC32 fork brave man these things flex like hell under serious braking force. I have one and the sturdier DUC 32 and MY DUC under braking dives 15 degrees left needs some getting just setting up a corner under braking on those.
  3. That bike doesn't need to be heavy depending on the spec. Although al his pack might make it heavy. I have a similar one though mine has a suspension fork and is enduro spec so comes at a heafty 16kg. Though I have seen some in race spec dipping below 12 kg it all depends on choices and money.
  4. I don't really believe in the tie wrap beiing any strength. If the crack is really moving get something similar as below, many a farmer will in the bush have to secure loads. Run it all the way from headtube to seatposttube as in the picture above suggestedfixed as per red line to created presure from top. Get under tension but also wrap with duct tape to the frame as to limit movement and make sure it doesn't hamper leg movements of rider much. Macggyer bush mecanics. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KMbKGgxbl34/TQ2JBk6DIFI/AAAAAAAAASw/zxsh9gLMSTI/s1600/ratchet_tie_down.jpg
  5. Me I have already got my dream bike in my head. Just need to get round the training time and have a go.
  6. agree with this spend about 6 weeks there a couple of years ago south island best but as above mentionned rank of north island. Just buy the bible of NZ MTB http://www.kennett.co.nz/product/classic-new-zealand-mountain-bike-rides/
  7. Quite opposite to Quick steps Niki Terpstra who now with Boonen mentally and phisically hurt looked like their main man. terpstra even went for a full on attack in the last K's and seems set to go flat out in tommorows time trial as well. To see which of those tactics turns out the best.
  8. My road bike looked quite normal at the top well make that road bikes as I have done it on a couple of different ones. We even used to do the muur and Kapelmuur big blad just for a laugh; The Koppenberg is only likely unridable when really wet and muddy and don't worry they will clean it for race day. What makes riders walk is the bunches you need one idiot holding up the pack to make 30 walk most of these would have easyly made it. Though most years you have some spaniard or so who has never ridden the damn thing getting exited turning near the front and misjudging his gear or blowing and going sideways. The issue is to many people or digging to deep before it have a nice stretched bunch in some groups and no issues. Put it too early in the race and some guys still hibernating in the big bunch and hoopla carnage.
  9. A bit exagerated those claims I have ridden it several times on road cyclocross or mountain bike without any issues. It only gets hairy if you get idiots in front of you the pile ups come from riders pushing each other or panicking, the hill itself is quite rideable.
  10. It looks like old damage that has already been retreaded or nudged mostly back into place by the thread of your BB. As said earlier you have not crosstreaded so no mayor issue. Clean and greas and turn new BB in without too much force stop if you really have lots off resistance. Or have retreaded cleaned if you want real peace of mind, though myself with such low damage i would just chuck the new BB in.
  11. http://www.analyticcycling.com/ForcesSpeed_Page.html great site I blame my big bones for weight and wind resistance
  12. Really swak from Kevin Evans trying to down play his mistakes. Saying 5 meters it was a lot more mentionning less riders then it really was that he passed saying some where my team mates? So swak you still gain an unfair advantage over others. He gains maybe 20-30 seconds real time immediately but he avoids beiing behind a split with could have cost him minutes. In short he was too far back his mistake or him not beiing strong enough he panicked big time and went into the fault and got caught. Really disapponited in him talking it down and looking for all kinds off excuses, giving bad rep for himself and his sponsors too. He should admit look I made a mistake and will pay the dues instead of looking for non excuses and keeping this going playing the victim. He's a good rider but not good anough on the day, he lost some more credibility too me again. Time penalty's are there not too compensate the advantage but to discourage to do stupid sh*t like this. And then the moaning about others lodging a protest Kevin you took a short cut thats the fact stop moaning you or your team have lodged complaints against others too. Such an entitledment.
  13. supprising to see his chase which was passing a lot of the allowable things if ou see the final medical verdict. He seems to be out for quite a long time. 4 broken ribs 6 cracked vertebrae 3 broken vertebrae
  14. There is two possible cause either its worn out or either its to small no solution though. But if it where the latter shoud be fine for someone who doesn't have a moerse ass like you.
  15. There is a route through from Stellenbosch its gonna be quite a long day. You will be best with someone who has done it before as I was told its not that easy to find you go through Jonkershoek and then over the mountain and down in to Franschoek. Have seen pictures from mates ho did it and deff looks like its word it. Or the tar (long way round over Hells Hoogte) Franschoek pass itself definitely is a beauty too. Sugest you look for a ride partner on Maties facebook page(for those students that have already gotten back after the holidays. Or ask in some shops Ask Juan Mason from Mason Cycles or at Flandria(Linus Van Onselen should definitely know the route) for the Franschhoek part your best bet is to Ask Geddan Ruddock for offroad options if he doesn't know about it it probably doesn't exist.
  16. I don't agree firstly its very hard to seed an event like Double Century, even individual performances of riders only give a relatively accurate seeding. Same as for past team performance as team strength varies a lot and there are many one of combo's. I have only ridden DC once my team got seeded as 9 th starter among the social teams as we where seen as not slow but not too fast. We went on to break the course record. Also it will give very boring racing amongst the top teams and unfair advantage to the last starter. I would now my tactic fast from the gun and just go and sit 100m behind the opponents and match their speed. The fact that its a bit spread and that you sometimes have to guess gaps to teams that left 15 min or half an hour before or after you gives it some of its charm. Thirdly you would put the weaker teams in the main heat of the day so they would be extra punished and more health risks incurred.
  17. This is not Germany as its ulikely to find english sign. Quite sure this is a US sign from someshere in Colorado, great one though
  18. Put me down for 2013 need some time to get fit again would be 10 years after my first and only one. Have to get it over with so I can go and hibernate again
  19. Nice one of my boys leading the breakaway over the climb and another one leading the bunch over the same climb job done strolled in together at the end off the day
  20. The number swap done that one loong ago. I was the one who downgraded though and then PPA decides to merge some bunches. So my other number also makes it to the first starting group and I get a hard day up front instead of a stroll with a later group. Later i really had a H number showed up on a dikwiel and what does the nice miss Cole do she creates a nice A-H group for the mid distance dikwiel out of the back on the big climb off course.
  21. There is plenty around here that are quite hard so it can be true
  22. TNT I just wan't to avoid confusion as already European pro riders for Saffa riders where announced where they where actually non pro contracts or for just the feeder teams.
  23. Not necessarily often you have some friends of manager, sponsor of even riders on the roster and not for merit. Read clear this is a general remerk an not aimed at Louis as I know not much about him.
