    The Munga 2020

Benky - he has the experience without too many races in his legs - thanks Covid!!
  2. In the case of the Shimano chain I have - writing on the outside of the chain.
  3. Double check that your chain is the right way around before you replace half your drive train looking for a creak. It saves time as well as a big dose of humble pie.
  4. And Axel is investigating yet uncharted portions of Ntsikeni. :-) I thought he would have seen the lights by now, but clearly not.
  5. And Mike is storming. I see the Greaves pair left with him from Ntsikeni - I wonder how long they will last. He is a scary animal on the charge.
  6. And they are off - that's me done for the next "n" days as I am glued to the dots.
  7. RIP Johann - a great man, and mad about the Freedom challenge.
  8. Don't you want to meander off and ruin another thread - this one was doing quite well without you? Or just keep on banging away on one of the others you have already ruined - but I really enjoy the bull dust being dished out here, and don't want it ruined as well.
  9. Astounding achievement - and the weather certainly never played ball!!
  10. Yes, I have used them for a couple of years and very happy with them.
  11. Did you ever get a response - can you share it with us?
  12. Prune juice wouldn't be easier??
  13. Has anybody tried a 29er on Venters bike rack? I have seen it with a 26er and it worked well- I neglected to test it with my bike
  14. Distance, speed (or in my case, lack thereof) - what are you after?
  15. On the weekend my wife was riding along the spruit and spotted two boys riding without helmets. Knowing we had some old ones at home she stopped them and got their details (sounds like a stalker...) and said she would drop the helmets off with them. She then discovered that the helmets were a 'little' old and needed new inners. After phoning a number of the local bike shops and comparing prices she eventually trundled off to Linden. Once she explained what she wanted the inners for, they suggested she throws the old helmets away and produced two new ones for the boys. This was totally unsolicited and she is not a regular customer at all - just a 'stranger' in the shop. It certainly ensures that I will now need to drive a little further and make Linden my LBS - this really was an unselfish act of kindness!!
  16. What a belter of an event. I don't think I have ever finished an event looking for a pen so I could sign up for the next years event, but I started scratching around while I was still covered in mud and could hardly breath!! The moment those entries become available I will be there.
  17. I read a tweet from Burry a while back - something along the lines of 'if you want to race hard, go for the epic, if you want have fun, go for the camber'.
  18. I have the Camber as mentioned above...but have never ridden the Giant so I am probably seriously biased. The suspension is very good - I have found myself bombing down stupid stuff and afterwards looking back and wondering what I was thinking of - it just gives you that level of confidence...I will update this status from hospital!! For long periods in the saddle I also found it very comfortable - at my pace I often land up doing 3-4 hour rides and I have found that I don't get the shoulder and neck pain I used to...old age isn't nice (no wisdom and a failing body!!). On the tight stuff I have not noticed any slow down in speed, and on the more open stuff it really is in a league of its own. The hubs work very well - I can 'out coast' guys on bikes that cost substantially more than mine. Acceleration - it is the closest to a hard tail that I have ever experienced. The tyres suck - change them asap. I have had 2 sidewalls go already - new tyres on order. I can't make comparisons, but I can say this is an exceptionally nice bike!!
  19. Drinking more beer than I have in years, I have cut out all wheat, but still eat carbs, just in lesser quantities. So far I am keeping off about 1Kg per month - so far 9 down, who knows when it will stop. I will increase my beer consumption if there is any fear that I might beocme too thin!!
  20. Just a quick note about some guys who went out of their way to bail me out of serious trouble on Saturday. I am not sure of the Epic Sport mechanic there – but he saved the day. To cut a long story short – two of my daughters use different cleats, and I landed up with the wrong pedals on a bike. No big deal except I only found this out when I suggested to my daughter that she does her final warm up prior to the start of the schools XCO challenge at Fountains. After some pleading for help over the loudspeaker system, I was sent in their direction. They firstly offered me an entire SPD Pedal/cleat combination (for free) and then when I suggested that all I needed was the spd cleats they immediately got new ones onto her shoes and had her riding with time to spare. They assured me that it was a pleasure to help someone out and needed no payment. Well I can’t vouch for the shop other than my single experience, but what an absolute revelation to deal with guys whose only thoughts were on how to get my daughter onto her bike as fast as possible – well done guys. With that attitude I have no doubt your shop will prosper – and if there is anybody in the centurion who needs something, please be my proxy and spend some money with them!!
  21. Specialized Camber Comp 29er Carbon - the day after my old faithful decide to break a leg on me. The only thing keeping the rear stay there was the welding.
  22. Specialized Camber comp 29er Carbon Coming from a tank (albeit a much loved tank) it is quite a pleasent upgrade...
  23. What distance is the kiddies event? (spelling)
  24. For anyone who is after a deal that is stupidly good - and have decided that the likes of a Specialized Camber Comp 29er Carbon is the bike of their dreams but someone elses budget, give him a call!! I have been a loyal customer since the very first Marin full susser that he brought into the country, and no matter what stupid requests I have made he has stepped up to the plate. This stupid request was "I would love a 29er, but h ell they are just way to expensive"..today I have the bike of my dreams lurking on the back of my car, and I am dying to get home and have some fun!! Eish, I am a happy old bullet
  25. Rehydrate - I am not sure if it makes a difference or just forces me to drink more, but I seldom cramp with it and generally cramp without it.
