  1. Ah yes, black bean burgers are also good, if other things and spices are added in the right amounts.
  2. On the veggie burger thing... Like beef / chicken burgers, you get average ones, you get GREAT ones, and you get UTTERLY HORRID ones. The vast majority of em are what I'd call middling. Whether it be taste, texture or something else, you need to be very good at matching flavours to deliver a great burger. Like beef, there's also different ways you can make one, with different "cuts" of meat (or, in this case, veg) which can change the taste and texture quite considerably. Spicing is and always will be exceptionally important, but that's the same across beef and chicken and veg. It's just that the veg spicing is all the more important, as good beef / chicken already has an element of taste / umami in it. The best veggie ones I've had so far have been chickpea and mushroom based. But if the spicing is off, the effect is more amplified than in the meat burgers, IMO.
  3. There's an EXCELLENT documentary about that very rock face, and the attempts to climb it. Valley Uprising, it's called. Seeing it progress from "impossible" to a record of one day and then beyond was awe inspiring.
  4. Yes, 31psi (2 bar) is too high. And those standard Maxxis sidewalls are like paper. So thin. Get it to around 25psi and play from there. What I generally do is get to 25psi, and if you're not dinging your rims on every rock / root or rolling & squirming the tyre under load, reduce the pressure a bit. A couple of rim-strikes on BIG hits isn't a problem. As you reduce the pressure and play a bit you'll find a sweet spot for grip, sidewall stiffness and roll. Where that is will be determined by a combination of things, like sidewall strength, sidewall casing, tyre width, rim width, riding style and the trails you ride. The "thumb test" is a reasonable starting point, but doesn't allow for different levels of hand-strength, which can vary hugely.
  5. Yeah, I read it. Confirmed that good carb sources are better than bad ones. Doesn't say keto is bad.
  6. No, the conclusion is that quality carbohydrate sources are better than shaite carbohydrate sources. IE those carbs with more fibre > those carbs with less fibre But yes, if you eat carbs, eat the good ones.
  7. Wellll, to be strictly on point, a sausage is simply a collection of foodstuffs in a casing, and a patty is what goes on a burger. The names don't imply the type of foodstuffs in said sausage or patty...
  8. ???? Sausage rolls aren't exactly founts of health, so the comparison is a bit misleading. Just 2 junk foods compared with each other. Of course it's gonna be high in calories.
  9. Just found that the Impossibke Burger is here in SA, but at 90 ZAR per 110g patty, I sure ain't gonna buy one any time soon. Going to start experimenting with chickpeas and other veggies for a burger patty
  10. *Single use plastic is killing and ruining things.
  11. yeah, except there have been too many snakeys amongst my riding mates on DD casings, even with DD foamos in the rear. It seems that the butyl insert doesn't extend as far up the sidewalls as the one in a Schwalbe SG does (halfway up the sidewall vs all the way to the tread) and on the SG tyres you also get the Snakeskin outer layer which is tough as nails. I know it's an N=3 anecdote, but still. Even off the bike, the SG seems to be a tougher casing than the DD.
  12. all of the above apart from the DH bike and fast. Seriously, though. I'm sick of flimsy casings and the problems that come with them. From now on, ONLY SG / GRID / Black Diamond. Maxxis... until the Exo plus comes out, I'll say that they're the most frequently punctured tyres in my riding group. DD / Exo whatever. I'm MIGHTILY impressed with Super Gravity casings. Those things are just suuuper strong, and fend off pinches and rocks like Nina Agdal swipes off tinder matches.
  13. Agreed, except in the case of hardpack and in the transition phase. For rocky, rooty, loamy and all other things, no fecking way would I want an aggressor up front unless I was looking for an XC tyre. But.... he found it better than the 2.3 DHF, which IMO is not anywhere near as good as the 2.5, and the ability to run lower pressures on the 2.5 really would have helped in that situation.
  14. yeeeeah, I've seen that before, but rather err on the side of caution and just drink it black. Some people like lots of milk in their coffee.... Also, it's still calories that you're ingesting, so I don't really trust that "you can eat up to 50cal while fasting and not break a fast"... If it were true, it'd also be dependent on the individual. I'd categorise this under the bro-science until I see definitive evidence for it, tbh.
  15. That is LOVELY! EDIT: Actually, I have a jump bike that can turn into my lightie's 26er when he's big enough. Hmmmmmm.... But it's not steel.
  16. You'll eventually find that the coffee (black - milk will break the fast) will give you enough boost for the ride.
  17. yeah, the DHF DD is a heavy tyre. I have the Mary Super Gravity at the front, which is also heavy, but OMG the grips!!! And I NEVER have to worry about snakebites (yes, you get them on tubeless too) or sidewall cuts. That casing is STRONG. Far stronger than the DD, that's for sure (real world testing, *** lines and all)
  18. out of experience - it SUCKS for the first few weeks if you try and go balls to the wall, cos your body is used to having external fuel sources for exertion, not your fat stores. zone 2/3 isn't an issue.
  19. The aggressor 2.5 is a good looking tyre for sure. Completely different to the 2.3 in terms of knob height, knob spacing and general shape on the rim, but the same tread pattern. I'm not surprised you find it better than the 2.3 DHF, cos the 2.3 is super narrow compared to the 2.5 aggressor, and the aggressor has transition knobs whereas the DHF doesn't. The wider profile also means you can run it at lower pressures, which increases your grip levels. I personally wouldn't run it up front, but that's because I like ALL the grips, and ride in a very wide range of conditions & surfaces. Where it won't be better is in loamy or wet conditions. The DHF has better sized knobs which give you more outright grip, and will shed mud better than the aggressor 2.5. You should really try the 2.5WT DHF or 2.4WT DHR. Or the Eliminator or Mary. For reference: 2.5 Aggressor.
  20. RR is a good tyre, but I preferred the Slaughter 2.6 grid, to be honest. As for straight-line braking, strangely it's not that much of an issue and it has decent traction when you slam the anchors. Not as much as a beefier tyre, and def not when it's muddy, but it's better than I thought it'd be. Definitely not a front tyre, you're right about that. Re ibex - ROOTS. Or rocks. You're a better rider than me so you're probably floating over the stuff I roll over, and are able to use your skill to make up for the lack of grip on anything but dry and dusty or hardpack. I also tried the Citius, but that went straight to the back after about 2 rides on the front. Same problem. Re eliminator - VERY nice tyre, apparently (according to Thermophage who is also a fan of the contrarian wench, it's better than the Mary) Don't let the 2.6 put you off - it is about the same size as a 2.35 Magic Mary, and the Grid casing is nice. I think that one will be replacing the Mary on the front, when it's time to replace it. It's Spaz's answer to the Asseguy. Vigi - also a good tyre, from reports.
  21. it's almost keto. Less than 40g from carbohydrate sources per day, and most keto proponents will tell you it should be under 25-30g. Also - need to differentiate between Therapeutic Keto (the one proven to help treat epileptics) and Standard Keto. People without epilepsy need not be on the Therapeutic one, nor ingest huge amounts of fat each day, especially if they're trying to lose fat mass in their bodies.
