  1. @Swift - you can get plastic shielded steel cabling (already with the loops) from your local Builders Warehouse. I got a 3m length for approx R 200 or so.That was thicker than 12mm.
  2. Walker, that's just what I would have suggested. Run the cable to the tie-down, and instead of stringing the cable through the tie-down, lock the tie down and loops of the cable together to form a secure connection. EDIT - according to their policy wording, as long as the steel cabling is >12mm thick, and the lock is SABS approved (and big enough, like Walker's are) then it will be fine. Your tie-down point is an immovable object. Just be sure to upgrade your steel cabling to the 12mm that they stipulate!
  3. You're right, but the increase in TLC is a worthy trade-off, I feel. Plus, it's a sport where you can get muddy. I mean, how many sports can you do that nowadays, and wear it as a badge of honour, as a 30 year old?
  4. Erm... MTB all along, bought a road bike thinking it might be different, then sold it and bought a DH bike. I've always been an MTB okie. Might not always have been able to have an MTB, but given a choice... Plus, MTB is far more enjoyable.
  5. Yep. One that i like particularly is the Da Bomb Cherry Bomb. Sweet looking bike.
  6. Trek Fuel EX is more of a trail bike at 120mm travel. Of all of them, I'd go mondraker or intense. You left out the Yeti SB66 & trek slash..
  7. Ditto to capricorn.and flowta. Shop didn't do.it properly, or didn't do it at all.
  8. On a related note... "All my friends, know the Low Rider...."
  9. Wear em! And on the plus side, they make u sweat more so ur legs will look k4k hot after a while...
  10. I think the term is "dirt roadies" Swift klap...
  11. +1 to Jimmy's input. Sometimes, I like some air under my tires...
  12. Dude, as the others say - Do not buy a game/makro/hyper special. They are THAT bad. Rather save your money for a bit longer and get an entry level Axis/Silverback/Raleigh Nomad/Schwinn from a proper bike shop. It's not so much that the game specials aren't put together by proper mechanics, but rather that the components that they spec on them (as well as the frame material) are of such low quality that you will never be assured that your gears will change properly, that your crank won't fall off and that your frame won't break at the first obstacle. Seriously though - steer clear of them, please. They have a bad rep for a reason... One of my mates (used to be know as Donkey ere on ze 'Ub) won one as a prize at one road race. He used it on the next MTB race in the cape region. The frame broke, suspension broke, as did gears. He came stone last. And as a proviso - he's just come back fro China after representing SA at the World Student Champs. So he's not slow by any stretch of the imagination.
  13. Meh. +1 to the hard clearcoat. I rushed mine and now I'm paying the price. Wish I had done it in summer & not winter...
  14. erm.... yeah. useless rant without more info.
  15. Yeah, for sure! It's a hop, not a drop off. And trust me - those frames are tested to far higher stresses than a bunny hop will bring to the table. Just make it smooth...
  16. You won't find the weirwolf anywhere in sa. Trust me, I looked high n low. They're not bringing em in anymore. And yeah. Minion is the biz
  17. Or... you do get the 30mm rise Boobars... which you can just cut down in 5mm increments till you get to your shibby spot.
  18. Dude, I hear ya on the skintight thing. One thing I found is that my NFL jersey actually works pretty well as a riding jersey. Short sleeved, breathable, and tough as nails. Might be worth looking into that, or an Ice-Hockey jersey for you, mate... They come in kiff colours as well... on the bar side of things... http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=55478 or these, in the white / blue would look pretty schnazzy on your rig... http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=69200
  19. Yeah, I know re cheaper and CRC. Not always the case, but mostly is. What bars you running at the moment?
  20. WOFL! Come now, squirrel. You know you want to go the CRC route. Do it. Do it now... Seriously though - how's the blue bandit going?
  21. Yeah. My old fun used to be clubbing etc. Now it's braaing at home, and doing little projects to enhance my living pleasure. And, tbh, I'm having more fun doing the new fun than I ever had doing the old fun. And yes, you wear your clothes for slightly longer, or forego a meal out or 2 per month. But that's not the point... have a look amongst your mates now, and then again in 5 years time. You'll thank yourself stukkend for buying a place now instead of 5 years from now, when the worries will, most probably, have only multiplied.
  22. Lemme say this now - It's worth it, dude. Especially now, especially in Durbs. House prices there now are DISGUSTINGLY low. I couldn't believe how low houses are going for now. I mean, big houses. Going for next to buggerall. If I could afford a 2nd house, I'd buy there no question, and just let it out. Unfortunately in the letting game there are other costs such as rates/water/rental agents that need to be factored in, so from that standpoint I'll only be able to do that in the next, say, 5 years or so. But the feeling of owning your own place and not having to ask someone if you want to put a picture up, or paint a room a different colour or plant different trees is, quite frankly, fantastic.
  23. ACTION Cycling carry stock quite often...
  24. Hell yeah... Structural stuff is in my blood. We (my oldies and I) built their garage and did all the extensions at their place. But I know what yoy mean about getting the right people in. I want to knock down a few walls in my place to make the ground floor more open plan (kitchen is an enclosed room atm) but I need to get a structural engineer and my plans in here to see which walls are load bearing. Then I'll get the guys to pop up a steel I-Beam to support the upper level, and bob is your mother's brother. Also need to build a lean-to outside for all my tools. But that's not structural, so no need for planning permission or anything. then, then, then... the list goes on!
