  1. Santa all the way. I dunno why, other than the fact that, somehow, it is speaking to me and promising all sorts of trail munching goodness...
  2. damn, Cap - and you had me d/l-ing an UTD flash player to view the goodness... Pfft! See ya on the mountain tomorrow? Bring spade...
  3. Well, you would. I'd shoot you if I saw you touching on a Merida. For reasons of pure humanity... I'd know you'd have been zombie-fied!
  4. Lolz... Diz, can you imagine the outcy if it had been advertise as "men only"?
  5. Like? Morewood? 'Cos it's a very good bike brand, selling internationally as well. Pricing is relative, and is reasonable for the workmanship that goes into the bikes themselves. Plus, boutique brand...
  6. Agree whole-heartedly. Why the hell not? Women's social clubs, women's gyms, women's skills clinics as already suggested. Why the hell not Men's social clubs, gyms, clinics, bars etc etc. Anyway - Great going CWC - That's a goodie bag to envy!
  7. I'll give u some info here... Capricorn isn't 2m tall riding a large frame either
  8. Doing the Lite version myself. Worried about the run, given that I'm not a runner by any stretch of the imagination and my meniscus tear had just tweaked again....
  9. Bwahahaha!!! I did that on Wednesday. Solution? Tied 3 1.5m wooden slats together, harvest a pointy stick from the garden and play pin the keyring on the stickie thing from 4.5 metres away. We have spare keys on the keyrack, and I've just proven that, while okes can break in, it'll take a helluva long time and the dog will go ballistic for the full15 - 20 that it took to prep the stok and snag them keys.
  10. Just did the first commute in to the new office. Distance = 17km. Time to office, incl shower time = 1h45. Things I learnt = I need a spare shirt for the small (500m) ride from the gym to the office, to soak up the post-shower/ride heat & moisture. 2) I can't do this on Thursdays. My domestic comes in at 8h30. Means I get to the office 2 hours later than normal. Best thing though? Incl shower time (which I'd do at home anyway) I'm just 10 mins slower than using the car on a bad traffic day. And it feels awesome.
  11. We need that tenk. Otherwise it's going to be much of the same when people just brake on the lips...
  12. Idiot, rather. For not taking off the front wheel when it's so close to the zorst! Rookie error...
  13. As eccentric says - duties on full new bikes (or even a consignment of separate parts that can conceivably make up a whole bike) attract a duty of 40% - before VAT. So make sure the price you're quoted takes the import duties into account before you buy and get a nasty surprize courtesy of SARS & customs.
  14. It's actually not illegal to ride in the yellow lane, Stratus. RTA says that you as a road user may make use of the yellow lane if you need to let someone else pass, and it is safe to do so. Seeing as motorists are always passing cyclists, it is therefore legal (within the bounds of the law, and if it is a busy road and people are passing all the time) to ride in the yellow lane. The same cannot be said of riding in the yellow lane on a freeway, or a motorway where riding is prohibited.
  15. Never once did any of us say that they (motorists) act befok because of the cyclist fraternity. However, your flagrant disregard for the law (as well as others of your creed) add to their frustration, which only makes us worse in their eyes, and exacerbates the bad behaviour we see on the roads. Yes, if you take cyclists away the madness shall remain, but there will be no more disregard for cyclists. As long as we are on the road, we need to make sure that we are respected & recognised as a user group. You are in no way contributing to that level of respect, and are in fact decreasing it day by day when you roll through stop streets & red lights. We, in effect (thanks to riders like yourself) have the same reputation as taxis. Which I despise. The reason we are all lambasting you, Niner, is that you perpetually try to convince us that what you are doing is acceptable when it is quite simply not. Just get rid of this type of attitude, top it up with some "responsible citizen" and come back when you've learnt how to behave and endear us to the motoring world. And here's a tip - running red lights & stop streets is not the right way to behave, although you certainly like arguing against that fact in the name of "safety" - a misnomer if I ever heard one.
  16. your post here is grossly contradictory of what your actual stance is. You ARE part of the problem, and are awaiting a Darwinian tragedy. Moreover, you are in the practice of inciting more hatred towards cyclists. How can you not be part of the problem, yet flagrantly disregard the laws themselves, and proudly so?
  17. I remember when I wanted to be a cop. Not in today's RSA though. It (like the army) used to be a vocation of worth. Now it's just, well, "wek"
  18. Absoutely. Heck, we even had a "traffic class" at pre-primary when we all went to grab stand up scooters and police bikes, and we learnt to stop at stop streets and let people cross at the crossings... and we learnt about how to behave on the roads. Seems as if Niner missed that class. His entire life.
  19. That's not the point though, Niner, and it's something that you seem unable to grasp yourself. You're vilifying the motoring public for endangering other road users (be they motorists, motorcyclists or cyclists) and pedestrians and breaking laws of the road, and yet you yourself are advocating, nay, JUSTIFYING why it is "okay" to contribute to the general lawlessness on the roads, in a misguided attempt to "safeguard" yourself which in effect only builds on the frustration that motorists have with cyclists. If you want to be treated with respect, first start doing it the right way. If more people adopted your credence as opposed to reverting to the way it should be done, then we will (like we already are) start sliding down the slope towards a vastly different society where the rule of law is totally ignored... because "that's just how it is"
  20. nah, patches - you're right! But maybe it's just more of a function of "what we're used to" than anything else...
  21. to say again though - just because someone else is doing something wrong, it does not mean that you have to do it as well, or should not point out that what they are doing is wrong. Just like I do when I see someone driving in the yellow lane on the M5 / M3 / M whatever, parking in disabled bays and non indication, to name a few. If I see you riding through a red light, I will take you to task. For the simple reason that I am a cyclist as well, and your actions have a direct effect on how I, as a cyclist, am seen by motorists. I have to look after myself, after all...
