  1. from personal experience - building a bike is so rewarding. I've now got an XC bike & DH bike which are almost to my exact specifications. And they're still fantastic to ride. Only thing that needs changing are the bars & stem on the XC bike. And I'll be keeping it as my "fun bike" when I eventually dive into the dark, dark world of 29erdom. But it is a lot easier on the wallet, doing it over a few months. If you find a frame that you like, buy it, transfer the parts from your RC3000 and then slowly start replacing the gruppo etc with good 2nd hand parts. IMHO - new parts prices are ridonculous, and the 2nd hand ones are often in fantastic condition, at a greatly reduced price.
  2. Just wanted to let someone know (if they are on here) that the hard-shelled elbow guards you lost in Tokai this morning were given to the on-duty gatekeeper at Tokai. They looked like a size small, and they were found on Your Roots just after the bridge. I gave them to the guy at the gate when I finished the ride, and he said that you had come looking for them before I had finished the ride. Just a quick heads-up for you.
  3. And then, just buy new SPD's and shoes. Not 2 sets of pedals and 2 lots of shoes...
  4. Plus, you can walk like a proper person. Not a penguinized freak...
  5. If you're riding with carbon soled shoes, or some very tough polycarbonate sole, then the difference is minimal due to the stiffness of the sole and how the whole shoe effectively becomes your contact point. For me, I stayed with the MTB pedals all through because I couldn't bring myself to spend another 1.5 to 1k on a pair of shoes, then another 1/2 k on pedals when I could just have stayed with the current set up. As for the drag coefficient of road vs mtb pedals - it's minimal. my view - stay with what you have. Means you can take both bikes on hols, and only need pack one pair of shoes.
  6. As Dizzy says, there are many rumours floating around. But it has been closed to the public, incl Tygerberg MTBers. That means no riding.
  7. So to throw the cat amongst the pigeons - what about the weight limit on an Aluminium frame, eh?
  8. Awesome looking bikes. An abundance of 150+mm travel bikes, which is lekker. And that new Jabula looks like an awesome AM machine..
  9. Oh my hat, that poledancer is something else. Just the ease with which she does that routine...
  10. Another sign of a bachelor is the set of 3-d eyewear hanging on the hat-stand. The ones with the earphones coming outta them. No way you'd be allowed those in a prison house of marriage.
  11. wynberg... But me, I travel! I'm sure I can convince the Mrs that 2 chairs cost a total of R 17,500 and come with a free bike... Not as if she's an actuary, or anything. Wait... Dammit! She is! Going to be greedy and ask for 6 then, if that's alright. And I know the boys who are building in Tokai (me & Pain or Shine) might need some pallets in the near future.
  12. Crow - Do you have access to Pallets? Need about 4 in reasonable condition for a project I'm doing on the cheap.
  13. Shoppethed around, you have. Glad you came away with the proper bits & good service.
  14. Seeing as it's a queer size, go along to FAG bearings. They might be able to help you. Credibility: -7.8153/10 EDIT - Damn. Too slow.
  15. I'd be in - if I were in Debben! As for Goodies! Official looking Official's hat - so people know we're, like, official, and stuff... Socks that can be ruined by that wicked PMB clay & mud A jacket, for if it rains. With the word OFFICIAL on it, of course. The more official, the better. But those are just extras - I'd be prepared to do it for the hell of it, and 'cos it's a good day out where I can watch all the riding and get a good spot, whilst looking official. Awesome idea, bro...
  16. Don't know yet, bro. We're going to find out on the next scan, which is going to be 19th Jan (15/16 weeks) as that's when the doc gets back from holz. And yes, firstborn!
  17. Used to do it all the time coming home from school. Was fantastic!
  18. This very last point is the reason why Deon (Pain or Shine) as an AMARider representative, is so pivotal to the cause. Official, organized lobby group.
