  1. This. So much this. And thanks for the info. Trying to do my own HTFU for the enduro in october... And that's piddlesticks by comparison...
  2. I'm 100% sure that my tough isn't anywhere near Guy's tough.... but that's why I'm asking him. And knowing his AR & megamarathon pursuits, he has a fair amount of cement hanging in those limbs of his! If I were to vote, I'd probably go with Munga. The level of mental toughness to endure that must be huge.
  3. What do you think is the toughest MTB race in SA? CPT? Munga?
  4. That's why I'm getting there early and starting up as soon as possible.
  5. And it wasn't anywhere near 1,900m. I'd go by the previous calcs, as they seem more accurate based on my recollection of the climbs and how many m you gain.
  6. Yep. That test was just 6 random elite athletes. There was another one where the mean power was at 1,700w with a deviation of ~270w either way. HUGE numbers.
  7. I'd say that the B lines will all be open, but so will the features, if you want to do them.
  8. Seems like a lot of us had horrible Augusts. Luckily mine was flat, keeping in the 95-96kg region and finishing at 95.6 yesterday. Goal is to get to 92 by my birthday, in 3 weeks. Walking, gym and running are my saviours at the moment. Trying not to use the car if something is within reasonable walking distance or riding distance while still remaining fresh for my client meetings.
  9. So top result was 1,687w and lowest was 1,391w for the men.
  10. if i remember correctly, Sifiso Nhlapo made well over 1,000w on the initial sprint EDIT: Holy FAAARK!!! https://www.researchgate.net/publication/236286198_Velocity_Production_in_Elite_BMX_Riders_A_Field_Based_Study_Using_a_SRM_Power_Meter The aim of this study was to analyze the production of velocity in bicycle motocross (BMX) compared to other cycling disciplines. Six elite BMX riders, 5 males and 1 female who competed and trained regularly for a period of 12 yrs ± 2 agreed to take part in this study. Each rider performed 3, 50-m sprint tests and a single 200 m fatigue test. The riders’ peak power, fatigue index, power to weight ratio, and cycling revolution per minute were analyzed using a Schoberer Rad Messtechnik (SRM) BMX power meter. The BMX riders’ peak power and power to weight ratio were all found to be similar to those in other sprint cycling events. Peak power outputs of 1539 ± 148 W and 1030 W were recorded with mean power to weight ratios of 21.29 ± 0.84 Watts/Kilogram and 16.65 Watts/Kilogram. The BMX riders’ power fatigue index was found to be higher than other sprint events as riders fatigued at a greater rate. Mean fatigue index was 61.19 ± 5.97 Watts/Second for the male riders and 53.04 Watts/Second for the female rider. A notable finding of this study was the relationship of cycling cadence (rev•min-1), peak power (Watts) and velocity (mi•h-1). This relationship suggests once a BMX rider achieves peak power their pedaling cadence becomes the major contributory factor to velocity production. Read the rest of the text. Elite BMX riders have the same w/kg output as track sprinters, more or less. Only reason the mean output is lower (actual wattage recorded) is that BMXers on avg are 30kg lighter than trackies.
  11. I hope so, man. I really do. Wonder if he repeats "huck it, you pussy" as he goes down the course?
  12. The Ryobi stuff you still get in Aus and USA is faaaar better, and on par with the old industrial range. Sad that we don't get it anymore, but Ryobi SA have really done themselves a disservice with the cheap only kaaaak that they're bringing in. Unfortunately means I wouldn't consider Ryobi anything, anymore.

  14. WTB Velociraptors FTW. Front and rear specific tread
  15. This is GOOD. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. As soon as affordable meat alternatives with the same taste and texture come through, I'll be on the bandwagon. I'll probably still eat that steak or pork belly (nom) but I'll definitely eat the replacements, too. And - I support the movement away from battery & pen-based farming practices. I think it's atrocious.
  16. Nah man, I don't dismiss the outcomes. I just know that they may not be as accurate as people think they are, and that informs my opinion as well. I give more credence to studies that control factors more thoroughly, but that doesn't mean that I dismiss those that don't out of hand.
  17. A healthy skepticism, not outright disregard. Performing a dietary study (esp epidemiologically) without controlling for other things that you ingest is a bit foolish, IMO.
