  1. Pulleys will look like this... Single: Double Single with rope anchoring point Eyelet Anchor Or one of those brass eyelet anchors that look like a big key-hook. EDIT - if you're drilling into solid slab, get two rawl bolts to secure the hoist. Far more secure.
  2. Dude - really really simple. All you need is 4 pullys (or blocks, in sailing terms. 1 of them with 2 runners, 2 with a single runner and one with a single runner and aother point to connect the rope) some rope, 2 eyelet screws and some hooks with an eye-loop in them to connect to the pullys. Look at the pic and you'll see how it works. Won't cost more than R 80 for everything...
  3. Damn. You should be able to source one from an LBS - they should have in stock from some old bikes that might have swopped them out for clients. Saying that, a new ST BB is approx R 100, for a full steel one. Sure the replacement cup would be just a bit less than that...
  4. Cue David Attenborough voice... The downhill mountainbiker is a social creature, dedicated to the upkeep of their most cherished of possessions, their bicycle.... (camera zooms from far)
  5. Generate Saliva. Extend tongue. Pause... Commence exercise - taste the goodies!
  6. Woop woop!!!! Parcel number: EE165131705GB Service: INTERNATIONAL SCHEDULED Status: Accepted Last tracked at: JO'BURG INT MAIL CENTRE EMS
  7. I'll see if I can free up some time. When are you starting?
  8. ROFL! But, my dear Sir, it IS about the brakes! It's amazing what a difference even a small change can make to their performance. And if it's not working, fix it!
  9. Haven't you heard of the "cycling expenditure quotient"? The rule that dictates that the disclosed price is 1/3rd of the actual price you paid for it...
  10. ROFL! I'm also (secretly) loving the white. But it's just the primer, and the coating is too thin for it to be the finishing coat. Finished colour is going to be a deep gun-metal grey. I'm sanding down the finish on the frame & fork this arvie (2k6 water paper - thanks for the tip, Cap) and then will start the first coat...
  11. Yeah, I second that. You're not going to be able to replicate the power & tuneability with anything else unless you pay an extra R 1.5k at least. Negotiate!
  12. Ja, bro... But I have to be honest - at the price that they're going for currently, it's not a bad deal... Although, I'd rather have the new SLX trail edition than last year's XT. Still prefer my brakes though. And I don't really see the need for a redily accessible reach adjust and contact adjust. I mean, you should only really set that sorta thing up once. And you're not going to suddenly think "oh, holy crapolie! I need the levers ONE mm closer for this corner!" Pfft!
  13. I'm sure I know it... Just next to that little jump before the gap jump?
  14. She's getting a set of Elixir 5's in dark grey. The white is just the primer. Finished colour is going to be a dark gun-metal grey, in metallic. All over. Rims are black, tires, crank, bashguard and saddle is black. Bars are the normal grey of the BooBar, and the bike itself is the Gun Metal. Fork, frame, alles. Gonna look king! Splashes of colour with the decals, otherwise stealth bomber style..
  15. Introducing Surgica-lift for Forks... "I used to feel all old and pitted. Misused, as if my life was dictated by the pits and scratches in my paintwork. I was pointed at. And made fun of. I had laughter ringing in my mind, constantly ringing like a cow-bell from hell. I had ears that weren't being used like they used to be. I felt deaf... dumb. Blind to the upcoming trails and drops that were looming before me... "And then I saw an ad for Surgica-lift... and my life changed. I'm now disc-specific! I feel young, vibrant, and purpose-built for new, exciting technology like twin-pot calipers and hydraulic fluid! I feel lighter, swankier, and altogether more responsive! All it took was a good dose of Surgica-lift, a fine metalwork file and some sweet tender love from a ball of spun steel. I was given a new life. I feel clean... free...ready! To make my life anew!" No forks were harmed in the making of this production... And yes - that is an unfinished HU-1 Heavy Hog in the background. My domestic thought it looked better with the rotor NEXT to it as opposed to on top.
  16. Dude. That could have been nasty. Really would have made the top possie in MBUK's page of shame.
  17. Ja, bro. Shoulda gone DHElle. If I had waited just another day, I coulda done it within budget, AND gotten something extra. Trigger-finger be damned! DAMNED, I SAY!!!
  18. Tomorrow for paint (cranks, frame & fork) and Tuesday for the swingarm. Then whenever my package gets here for the rest. I'll say next weekend (tentatively) Still need to get the decals printed though, and that will have to be done before the clearcoats are done.

  20. Worst one - cycling back from the cafe across the road from Midmar dam, and me and a mate were about halfway through the dam. Just past the "Eikendal" area. Was cycling with no hands on the bars, having a coke buddy bottle in one hand and a paper bag of biltong in the other. Leaned over with my right hand to change FD position (yes, I realise I was crossing the arms...) and the bars wobbled. Controlled the wobble, and by this time I had dropped the goodies. I looked up, only to see that I was headed straight for the edge of a 3m dropoff, where the dam now laps up to. I pulled my brakes, HARD. O'er the bars, 3m down. Flip. Crack. ****. Hit the ground 50cm away from a large treestump. Thank goodness. Dragged my bike back up to the road, whilst my mate raced back to the campsite to call the ballies. Went straight to the PMB hospital, and spent the rest of the holiday in a sling, with a broken collarbone and a bit of a knock to the ego. Until I got back to school...
  21. Dude - I'm ham fisted at the best of times! One rule about the can. Shake, shake, then shake again.
