  1. That's a great post, makes alot more sense than my trying to explain it without pictures, Thanks Bertus!
  2. Please link to importing route into Zwift. Not sure it is possible... You can convert a previous fit file (with power) into a zwift workout and then load it on a workout, and ride it in erg mode, but it may mean that you're pushing hard while riding down a hill in zwift (zwift terrain won't line up to the "route"). Also your route will be based on recorded power not on recorded gradient. I think the software which you would be after is actually BKool. I haven't tried it but apparently you can recreate courses based on previous GPS gradient data. Then I know in Cyclops Virtual Trainer you can select rides from anywhere in the world and ride those with a video of the route as recorded by the person who uploaded the course. Again.... All needs a smart trainer to be truely immersive. I would say that the two best options for something like the fluid or satori smart would be either zwift or sufferfest. Trainer road is good for interval training but you have that functionality in zwift and sufferfest as well.
  3. Subscription is month to month to most of the apps at around USD10 per month each. You usually get the first month free so you can try first and see which one you like most. Zwift is a preset map with various routes on it. There are 3 maps... London, Watopia and Richmond. These change according to a preset calendar. As far as riding in "constant resistance mode" (or manually controlled) goes, its certainly more fun than just riding on the IDT. Add in group rides and races and it becomes a lot more fun than just sitting on the IDT. As far as I know the only smart trainer which is safe from Mr Eskom is the tacx Bushido Smart. Of the other 3 the fluid will be safe. But remember she needs a speed and cadence sensor... So factor that cost in when choosing. This is a nice list of the trainers and their capabilities. https://support.zwift.com/hc/en-us/articles/203152565--Info-What-trainers-does-Zwift-support-What-do-I-need-to-ride-?mobile_site=true
  4. If you can stretch it a touch then these would be better as they are "proper" smart trainer in that it adjusts resistance automatically. http://asgthestore.com/accessories/bicycle-accessories/turbo-trainers/bkool-smart-go-pre-order https://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/tacx-trainer-vortex-smart-t2180 Out of the two you suggested the tacx as it transmits power so no need to use the cadence/speed sensor and zpower. If you can pick up a secondhand cycleops powerbeam that would be great too.
  5. No because you have a power reading. It only uses the power to calculate your virtual speed. Zwift does allow for a speed+cadence mode on specific trainers and extrapolates a "zpower" from that, but that's only for if you don't have a powermeter or smart trainer.
  6. You only input FTP for reference to your workouts. Zwift adjusts your intervals based on the percentages required for the workout interval. It uses your instantaneous power reading, your weight and the instantaneous course variables (gradient, equipment, drafting, current speed etc) to determine your instantaneous speed/acceleration etc. So when you get to a climb, you will need to pedal faster to climb with the group (if the wattage of the riders in the group increases). If their wattage stays the same, then you just need to maintain power.
  7. Good luck! I hope it sorts it out! Eagerly awaiting feedback.
  8. Great news that the link may have helped! Excited for a reportback. As I've stated, using a new antstick helped me. But I changed to a different brand so it may be less sensitive to the USB power issue.
  9. Found an interesting post. It seems that antsticks are quite sensitive to the USB power and potential interference from the HDMI port. Maybe give these suggestions a go and see if they help? http://kb.zwiftriders.com/book/export/html/16
  10. Correct, though I haven't tested the lag. What antstick are you using?
  11. Download the zwift app on your phone, and start it before loading zwift. Then it will show the Bluetooth sensors which are picked up by your phone. I didn't recommend that to cadenceblur as I thought the powertaps did either ant or BLE but not both.
  12. Have you tried the Bluetooth option?
  13. There seem to be quite a few other porential issues, what channel is your WiFi on? Any other wireless devices around? That type of thing.
  14. The long garmin ones were an issue (like from the 910xt) because they have fewer channels than the new ones. See if you can find some more info on the number of channels your one has. Are you using it with HR and Cadence at the same time?
  15. Try another antstick if you can. What kind of antstick do you have by the way? The older garmin ones don't have enough ant channels to work properly.
  16. Does it also fail on the garmin?
  17. Make sure you have all the latest firmwares installed. That's the first thing. Next is your antstick. I replaced my garmin one with a wahoo one and it sorted out all my problems. That said my garmin one came to a point where I needed to squeeze it for it to work. Hr and cadence seem to need to update less so the power meter tends to be the first one to drop out.
  18. Zwift also runs on appletv (4th gen only) (or at least in beta testing) for 13k you can get an appletv, nice tv and Bluetooth speaker. Just make sure your cadence sensor and hrm are BLE devices. https://zwiftblog.com/apple-tv-beta/ Just make sure you can get a spot before you buy an appletv. Otherwise get an iPad/iPhone... That's the next cheapest way.
  19. So yes, boerie on a weber, but it's still a good watch!
  20. I'm not sure about the yellow grating you see every now and then, but the scaffold is purpose built and removed after the event. One of the reasons that the event is pricier than others. As far as I know the little concrete ramps in the storm drains were also purpose built but are obviously permanent.
  21. Was such a jol doing my first JUMA. Anatomic tunnel was scary... Was wearing prescription sunglasses and my light stopped working. So chose to ride short sighted and sunnies up. Fortunately made it through with no slips! Will definitely do it again
  22. 1st Juma for me! Ride the Spruit alot and finally going to be able to do the race. Late entry so only starting at 8:30.... Also a little confused by the route map vs the video. Route map distance markers.... are those distance from start or distance from finish? ie Do you finish by riding along the spruit from Bryanston Drive to Emmarentia, or do you start by riding along the spruit from Emmarentia to Bryanston drive? Video shows that you finish on the spruit, so I'm assuming the distance markers are distance to finish. Really though what I'm after is that I'd like to ride to the start along the spruit - this is obviously part of the race route. What time must I be off the route?
  23. Your best bet is to look if it saved on your PC and upload manually. Though if it didn't save there then you're out of luck I think.
  24. Make sure you have the Everest challenge selected. Then just do the mountain route alot. I landed up climbing 67km before I managed to get my tron bike because I did the California challenge first.
  25. My comparisons to the pool noodle were for when I thought it was R300 each (R600 per set). I also think R300 for the set is good value. Definitely going to lose the pool noodle soon.
