  1. You would need additional hardware for a "SRAM" system as currently this has no processor. Right button = shift rd right, left button = shift rd left. Easy so far. Remember the fd has received both these signals so far... but hasn't acted. Both buttons = fd change state and cancel each other on the rd. It's incredibly simple logic but as you can see there are simply 3 logic gates on the receivers, but no processor. And since only the rd is ant+ they would need to introduce a new fd unit to a) communicate with a controller or b) act as the controller. Either way its new hardware. Don't get me wrong here.... I love the idea and the simplicity and how it will easily translate to mtb with a more powerful rd and a delocalised battery, but I think a "SRAM" or synchro shift solution is not possible without a separate processor.
  2. You're in for a treat wrt bike stuff. I did some basic pricing and a bike spec "2 jumps" lower is around 50 percent more at Galleria mall "compared silverback sola 2 and 4. Otherwise depends on what you're buying. Some things similar some at 3 times the price. On average Nairobi seems to be around 80 percent more expensive.
  3. Something nobody had mentioned yet is space. From your description I assume you in a suburb similar to Karen (although the crime threw me a bit there, but I've only been here a few weeks)? Anyway, I'm not in a position to comment on all areas since I'm from joburg but there are a number where your house probably going to be significantly smaller than what you're used to. Perhaps a few property/house sizes will help out a bit too.
  4. How can they say that the wheel is no longer dished, and in the next sentence say they're not creating a new standard?
  5. I hope this isn't going to be a low qualith product. I still can't understand how a 1x11 system is more expensive than 2x10 anyway. The fact that X1 drive train only is more expensive than xt drive train plus brakes is absolutely ridiculous.
  6. At your age your body is going to change. Drastically. When I matriculated I was weighing 79 kgs mid year. Training was in the region of 20 hours per week (rowing). A year later I was 93kgs and still under 10percent body fat. And with the amount of training you're doing your food intake will have little effect on your weight. How tall are you? Another thing I understand from LCHF (limited knowledge here though) is that you actually eat alot more calories than your body takes on. Ie your body finds a comfort zone and if you eat 5000 calories and it only needs 4000, then a large majority passes through. But your body takes on enough to stay comfortable. My feeling is that if you want to push your body into an "uncomfortably low" body composition then LCHF may need to be paired with calorie limitation. I could be completely wrong though.
  7. Are you guys using smart trainers or a standard idt with bike mounted pm? I'm looking at a similar setup in the near future but always imagined running the session from a tablet or laptop based app and just using the Garmin for recording.
  8. Something like this might be in order https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=2MX6VKXoBMGI7Aa30oCgCw&url=http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DBHJxIwvFIGY&ved=0CBsQtwIwAA&usg=AFQjCNHvkg7Da8GzzPjqO9ZHGhYrnyR77g
  9. Anyone tried the Vittoria Barzo and Peyote? Looks like an interesting combo.
  10. In the interim you can adjust the cable tension. Turn the barrel adjusters anticlockwise to tension the cable to shift up quicker, clockwise to slacken the cable and shift down quicker.
  11. Breaking the cable as you have done will cause it to "stretch" which will have the effect you speak of on up shifting. Replace the cable and housing yourself, easy job. Youtube should be able to assist with any queries.
  12. The quotes aren't showing up anymore. Someone else said it was fantastic.
  13. Maybe I'm just a bit negative at the moment but I don't enjoy race thats 70% dirt road where its either so corrugated it feels like your teeth are going to shake out, or so deep in soft sand that you feel like you're riding in syrup. My first crater cruise ultra, and apparently "but everybody knows thats what you get at crater cruise". So probably my mistake going there in the first place.
  14. Tbh I wasn't really looking at time... but it's a bit irritating when that happens and is very avoidable and im sure some of the racing snakes were properly pissed off. A little bridge there would have sorted most of the delay out. But was also irritated me was the waterpoints. Waterpoint 1 was just that.... a tap. No mention of the 92km waterpoint on the maps which other than the "halfway" stop was the only waterpoint worth visiting. This was my first MTN Advendurance race and quite honestly I was very disappointed. I find the trailseeker series much more enjoyable and better organised.
  15. Can't expect riders to enter single track 300m after the neutral zone. Never going to be pretty. Then throw a technical anything in the mix and all it takes is for 1 person to dismount and it's chaos. Waited for 14mins there I think. Race organizers need think a bit.
  16. Paul Opie. Him and his brother Darryl bring in Cube. I'm sure you'll find him in Facebook if you search. Not sure on his wife's name though.

I feel like I have to add to list of moaners... toilets far from parking, parking itself was far from ideal if you didn't have a 4x4, no drinks at finish, so you can't wait for your mates to cross the line and unsafe riding conditions as there wasn't always an emergency lane and there didn't seem to be any marshalling vehicles. I did enjoy the ride though, went 3:24, managed to work well with a few other heavies in the cross wind, had a nice chat to DragoRosso and will probably be ordering some new wheels soon as a result. As an event however, I think this one was seriously lacking, specifically the logistics and organising. Not sure I'll do this one again - think there are better events on the calendar.
  18. If you import it there may be a problem as it's a grey import (something to do with the delivery address). But if you buy it overseas and wear it in it shouldn't be an issue. But I think they have international pricing standards now so I don't think there's a major saving (at least not like there used to be).
  19. I had 1291 on my 910xt
  20. Anyone got a list of the 94.7 seeding events?
  21. May also be worth trying to get a ride on an XL spark. Again setup is important.
  22. I stopped and picked up 2 tubes on day 1 of panorama this weekend. Gave them to one of the rangers. Not too many gel wrappers though.
  23. I ride one (tcr composite). Very lekker. Look at geometries though. A bit tough as you're a novice but the right bike size and fit is very important. Remember you also need a bit for helmet, kit, shoes etc. Don't skimp here as it also makes a big difference. I'd look at and carbon frame 105 bike. I think you can get the scott foil or cr1, canondale caad10 (alu) or supersix (carbon) which might be a little more. Giant tcr composite, spez tarmac, trek madone 3.1. See if you can ride a few before you buy. Also see if you can find someone with last year's model. Usually can pick up a good deal, plus the exchange rate was better last year. Edit. I assumed you meant composite. You get 2 carbon TCR frames. The composite and advanced. Advanced is lighter and stiffer. TCRs have been around for ages as well, great bikes.
  24. Are you referring to the ranger who was hit? Or a cyclist? At prize giving day 3 they had the rangers come up on stage, one of them was hit by a car, bike write off and 3 cracked vertebrae. But he was still at the evening event and looking (relatively) strong. Walked up on stage and such. Strongs to him for a good recovery. Coming down long tom on one of the long straights I had a near miss with an oncoming car overtaking a truck over a double solid line. He almost took out a few of us. Some crazy drivers and the rangers were well appreciated.
