  1. The reason I record the session is to have all the information for me. I get side benefit by getting discovery points. I'm not going to (shouldn't have to) sacrifice the quality of my information because Discovery don't/won't apply any intelligence to their product.
  2. Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, it's irritating - I can see in trainingpeaks that I has 90 mins at over 70 percent, but then the 4 hours is less than 70 so only get 100 points. Pretty irritating. I know there are workarounds (autopause helps in some cases), but it's frustrating that you get "penalised" for recording your warmup and cooldown.
  3. This may have been discussed somewhere in the 565 pages here..... "incorrect" points award. Example: I do a 2 hour ride - first hour at 60% and second hour at 70% HR - this gives 2 hours at average 65% HR so I get 100 points (>30 mins@60%-69%). But I've done an hour at 70%HR...... I should be eligible for 300 points, but because I've recorded my warmup/cooldown as well, I'm penalized on points.... Has anyone found a legitimate workaround for this that doesn't involve recording multiple activities?
  4. I don't think I've ever selected a primary device, and I get points for my Edge520 and Fenix3. (running one on autopause also helps with the average HR)
  5. I use Zwift and my Fenix to record. Irritating but it works. Also it allows you to "optimise" your discovery points. Eg the other day I did a workout 7 x 3min pieces with 3 mins rest, 8m warmup and 5 min cooldown for the 60 min: 1:00:15 (just over an hour) Average HR for the 60 min: 125 (128 is my 70% number for the 1h 300 points) Points awarded: 100 (HR 60-69% for 60mins) BUT If I record only the 42 mins of "work" on my Garmin my average HR is 132 for 42 mins (according to TrainingPeaks). This puts me in the 70-79% for 30mins category and I get 200 points. Of course, I didn't do this, and I got 800/900 points that week!
  6. What's an "esspresso analogue" and how do you do it with an Aeropress? I use mine alot with my porlex grinder, but can't say I've ever gotten anything near an espresso. Great Americano/long black, but never close to espresso.
  7. So as far as I know these offices are Home Affairs Offices in banks. They are not actually affiliated with the banks in any way - ie they won't deliver to your bank. It's not a service your bank offers you either. I did my passport at FNB Merchant Place, and nobody asked anything about whether I banked with FNB or not. I was in and out within 15 mins (the free parking limit) for the photos/biometrics appointment and again for the collection. Wish I did it when applying for my daughter's passport - that was 3 hours at Randburg and the systems went offline due to Telkom outage and then 4 hours at Sandton where both parents need to be present for the application.
  8. I bought a few from BikeMarket. They might have some lying around.
  9. Everyone: "Arya! Arya! ARYA!" Writers: "Guess we need to kill her then. The Mountain should do it" Edit: Writer 2: "No.... Arya can kill The Mountain, but then Jamie should kill her defending Cersei"
  10. This is amazing!
  11. I might watch it again tonight. Great nuance in E4.
  12. Yeah it did. Apparently 3 months of shooting at night for that episode. Apparently CGI is also easier to do (or less critical) for dark scenes making production a bit easier.
  13. Sooooo.... back to GOT. Some VERY interesting developments in E4 which leave a few very angry people at the end! Setting up nicely for the last episodes - truly is The Game of Thrones!
  14. You don't. Zwift isn't a registered vitality device. So you still need to record on a Garmin device, and upload that. so you land up with 2 workouts in Garmin which I don't know how to combine.... And then you need to delete the extra activity in Strava.
  15. How is it on the flats though?
  16. Anyone know if they ever put in a "small chainring" feature? Ie if you're riding in the desert but have your MTB on the trainer, you basically forced to sit in the hardest gear and spin like hell. More of an issue during races as your big chainring is smaller than the small chainring on a classic road crank.
  17. I binged the trilogy after seeing Unbreakable a while back. Great trilogy, and great characters. Worth a watch for sure.
  18. Not really. It's quite intensive especially if you have a manual grinder. Wouldn't use for more than 2 people.
  19. So I saw the Sennheiser 4.50 BTNCs on Takealot daily deals the other day (for R1800) and decided to get them. The JBL E65s were on a week or 2 earlier and I decided to skip (found the E65's didn't fit my ears so nicely - my wife does say I have funny shaped ears though). I bought these without trying them, but did get a friend to test them out before I clicked checkout. Managed to then compare them to a few models: JBL E65 - Can't comment on the audio as I didn't even listen to these as they were too uncomfortable, but the Sennheisers are definitely feel better quality. JBL Everest 700 - Cans are a little bigger on the JBL so slightly more comfortable on the ears. Sennhaiser seem a little better on the quality overall. Noise cancelling is pretty similar. Sound was more neutral on the Sennheisers, and a bit more crisp - also seemed to have a bigger soundstage than the JBL (if that makes sense). Would have been happy with either of these at the same price. BeyerDynamic OnePro - Look, these are wired monitor level headphones, so insanely clear and very neutral. They have an adjustable base port for enhancing bass, but aren't really comparable in terms of sound quality. Similar comfort level between these and the Sennheiser, no noise cancelling. But these are not the headphones you wear on the plane. Then I managed to compare the Sennheiser to the Bose QC25 while in flight - it was a pretty quiet plane to start though. I understand that these are just the wired version of the QC35. IMMEDIATELY the noise cancelling difference was clear. especially when not listening to anything. Sound Quality was similar - I'd probably say that I prefer the Sennheisers actually, but the Bose were probably 10-15% louder (but only when the NC was activated). I'm not sure if this was due to the superior noise cancelling, or if it genuinely is louder. That said I don't even listen to the Sennheiser's on full volume. Bose had slightly more comfortable cans, but the headband was more comfy on the Sennheisers. Build quality the Bose have an upper hand, and looks wise they do too as the cans seem smaller and more streamlined. I can see why people would spend extra on the Bose after testing the two in-flight, but I can't say that I want more than what the Sennheiser's offer. Directly comparing the NC as this is where the biggest difference is, I'd give the Bose a 5/5 and the Sennheiser a 3.5/5. Last night wore the Sennheisers on a commercial flight. They were comfy for the 4 hours I wore them. Didn't feel like I needed to take them off, or that I was overheating (and I'm a sweater). Wore them this morning on a noisy plane for 2 hours. Interestingly found a position of the cans which "improved the noise cancelling" quite dramatically. I think I'd been wearing them with a bit of sound leakage before. Was really impressed with them on this flight, while I could still hear the engine hum a bit, I was significantly more comfortable than on previous flights, had the music on low volume and managed to sleep nicely. TLDR: Sennheiser 4.50BTNC are a great option at half the price of the Bose (and Sony). Even better if you can get them on special. But if you plan on regularly wearing them in NC mode only, then you might be disappointed as they make the background quiet rather than silent.
  20. Fenix 5 Sapphire for R7k on Takealot today https://www.takealot.com/garmin-fenix-5-sapphire-sports-watch-black-with-black-band/PLID46911738
  21. Not a woodworker, but always on here seeing other folks' work Has anyone here made an adjustable desk stand for IDT. I was thinking something like those standing desks or Stokke Tripp Trapp Baby Chair (with the desk on the other side) or a combo of the two. Any thoughts on how difficult this might be? What material to use/avoid?
  22. Quite interesting. Any idea why the attempt is at 1800m instead of sea level? I imagine there is a curve which trades off lower oxygen levels (lower power output from rider) against lower wind resistance (lower required wattage vs speed). And then temperature effects on blood composition.... also very interesting.
  23. FYI to those who may be interested - Saw that Takealot Daily Deals have the JBL E65BTNCs on today for R1699 (Normally R3k). Disclaimer: I know nothing about them, they have some not-so-great reviews on this thread, but being 25% of the price of the Bose/Sony, it's not really something to compare to I suppose. I do alot of travel (usially 4h flights though), so if anyone has a review on these (bear in mind the sale price) then I'd appreciate it. Edit: Scratch that. Read a few online reviews and it just sounds like I'd be disappointed.
  24. By a tyre width? That review can be summed up as: The Bose are great, but if you buy them now then you bought the wrong ones" Edit: if you asked me before reading this thread I would have said the Bose without a doubt. Question: in the lower price bracket, anyone have some real world feedback on the Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC? The Marshall Mid also looks so sweet but is on-ear only (in NC)...
  25. Currently in Beta testing for Android afaik.
