  1. I recently sold a bike on here and almost lost the sale due to waiting for guys who had first refusal. Fortunately still made the sale but the point is to inform potential buyers that they are either in a queue or that it's cash is king. And then to mark your advert as sold once it has been sold!!
  2. Try Mike at SBR in Sunninghill. They stock(ed) Felt. Might be able to help out.
  3. There are two threads. The wheels one is short. The other (linked further up the page) is a long.
  4. Can you not get a pair of 650B slicks?
  5. So if parked on the side of the road, a motorist must check that it is safe to open the door before opening. Dale has the best suggestion. Rwport it to the cops and ask them who was in the wrong. Heal up soon.
  6. Depends on where you're riding. If a motorist opens a door into traffic, its the motorist's fault.
  7. Convenience law abiding.... I like that. Ok so off topic a little but similar lines. My company recently was purchased by a multinational corporate with lots of policies which are basically laws. Our travel policy states that we may not travel for business in a vehicle that is not rated 5 stars by the Euro NCAP system. I drive a BMW 3 series. Our company pool cars are toyota auris hilux or etios. None of these cars are rated 5 stars, but mine is definitely the safest so I choose to drive it rather than the company cars. When I spoke to one of our international managers about it (tongue in cheek I asked if I could buy a new car on the company's account so that I could travel between offices), he spoke of something termed "Malicious adherence to policy". Basically I could tell my boss that I refuse to travel for business, or I could choose to understand the reasoning for the policy, and apply the principals of the policy accordingly. Which would you do?
  8. Paulst12, you are quite adamant that you must obey the law because "laws are set in place to prevent us from harming others, protection from being harmed, to prohibit self harm" In South Africa vehicles stopped at red lights are at risk of hijack and smash and grabs. The longer you are there, the greater your risk. Therefore, in the light of self preservation I do not wait at red lights longer than I need to, and when safe am more than happy to drive through a red light (read slow down to a crawl if not stop at the light, assess the situation, proceed to pull off and drive through red light if safe to do so). On more than one occasion I have felt threatened whilst at a red light in my car, with someone walking directly toward my vehicle. It has been safe to go, so I did and the "pedestrian" immediately returned to the sidewalk. Your argument "the law is there to protect, therefore stop at red lights" does not address a situation like this. As the OP stated, the argument is not about running the red at 40kmph yelling STRAVAAAA! But is about assessing a situation when at a red light and proceeding when it is safe to do so (which may be when the light turns green, or may only be after several other vehicles have jumped the yellow and red on the other traffic light phase)

    Argus 2014

Didn't see anyone go down, but passed an accident on the M3 past constantia that looked rough. All the best for recovery to all involved.
  10. Vittoria/Geax has a tyre pressure app... iTyre. Its even called iTyre on android.
  11. Sorry Mr X and any off roaders out there. I must say I'm very surprised I haven't seen any comments slating the driver of the vehicle for using his cellphone to campag RECORD the incident while driving.
  12. The guy was so angry he was like furious fred! But I personally think he behaved like a nobby nic. Just imagine he was riding a Kona Stab!!!!
  13. Things sure escalated quickly. One guy was wielding and AKSium
  14. Maybe.... but I think he just saw RED. Driver is lucky his stem wasn't LOADED.
  15. +1 on the dirtpaws. Mine need replacement after about 5000km.
  16. Tubeless. No 2 ways about it, its just that much better. When I started mtb I had tubes. Second ride I ran out of tubes and patches. Since then (about 8000km) I think I've had stop for about 4 punctures within the group, 2 of which mine. Your rims are tubeless ready, but still need some work. Your LBS should be able to help you out, or you can do it yourself. Then check what tyres you have - tubeless ready will work but snakeskin/protection/tnt (this depends on the brand). Then you just need sealant. Stans is the most popular but there are other options. Then make sure you get a tubeless puncture repair kit. If you get a "big" puncture that doesnt seal itself you will be able to seal it 9 times out of 10.
  17. And in fact our current attitude of "take it but don't hurt me" and "we're really grateful that we didn't get hurt" works EXACTLY the same principals as the broken window theory, but in reverse. It makes it socially acceptable to bikejack, hijack, steal, mug, armed robbery, etc. Socially acceptable as long as you don't kill the victim.
  18. Ok so the old one is a square taper. Would work witht the crank I have. The new one is either a shimano hollowtech or a sram gxp. Can't tell from the pic. I'm in sunninghill, so not far from you. This is what the crank looks like. I just don't have bolts for it.
  19. What BB do you have? I have a new 33t square taper crank that would be perfect. Where you based?
  20. Comes with headset. Your LBS probably has a bunch in their workshop.
  21. In your 3x8 you currently have a 22:32 as your lightest gear. In the setup cpt described you will have a 24:36 which is the equivalent of a 22:33. So you'll pretty much be in the same gear.
  22. From what I understand from their posts so far. They have quoted SANS 60950. LED controlgear performance requirements (the driver) is 61347-2-13, and 62384. Batteries. Safety of lithium batteries is 60086-4 for primary batteries and 61960 for portable batteries and secondary lithium cells. There exists no standard for LED chips, lenses or reflectors for portable lighting devices. So the only thing left is the charger. Maybe I'm missing something that can be pointed out.
  23. It's clear that extremelights view the sabs mark on their chargers as a conpetitive edge. This is no problem, and tbh kudos for getting it. But this is being advertised as a major advantage, and as a "compulsory standard" to adhere to. Great, so what is a compulsory standard? Well it's a South African National Standard (SANS XXXXX, not SABS XXXXX) which in this case has been adopted directly from the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standard with the same number. The National Regulator stipulates that all equipment falling into that category be tested and certified to meet the minimum requirements of this standard. Great, so everyone knows what it means now. So the standard quoted applies to IT Equipment. As far as I know, a bicycle light does not fall into this category. In fact there is no standard (IEC or SANS) for led luminaries because the technology is progressing faster than the standards committee. So break it down a bit further, Extremelights has said it is not the light, but the battery charger and battery that are certified. The standard quoted by extremelights does not cover batteries, so therefore must apply to the charger which is in fact a DC supply much like the one for your ADSL modem or.... your cellphone charger. Right, so we have ascertained that the standard must be quoted on the charger or power supply. Please have a look at your cellphone charger. Checked my Samsung one, no IEC or SANS number. My Apple one, no IEC or SANS number. My Belkin router, No SABS or IEC number. My PVR power supply, you guessed it - no IEC or SANS number. My Garmin charger - the only DC power supply / battery charger with and Standard referenced, and it is a UL standard (American SANS equivalent which is not recognised in South Africa). So my question is: if there is a compulsory standard for this equipment as you have stated, how does Apple, Samsung, Belkin and Pace (Multichoice) all sell their products without the compulsory certification? If anyone wants to see an example of what should be displayed on products falling into the compulsory standard categories, open your DB board and you will see IEC 60947-2 on each circuit breaker, ad this is the standard which circuit breakers must adhere to.
